    Not eternal, but functional

    • Written by Vivian C from Honolulu

I have to replace the 45W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for MacBook Air, today, because the wire that connect to the charger is frayed. I got years of great service, and yes, things eventually break. The magnet always worked exactly the way it's supposed to -- trip over the cord and it releases instead of bringing the laptop crashing to the ground. I wish the cord part was modular, so I could just replace the frayed wire section, but it's not. And that's the price of constantly improving technology; for me it is worth $79 for the R&D and fantastic product design (and function!) that makes Apple products so wonderful. Oh, and I can either have it sent to me, for free, and get it in about 4 days, or mosey on down to my local Apple Store. Which is beautiful, and has hands-on displays of other stuff I want, and get information from the intelligent, knowledgeable, friendly staff. Or maybe are a FREE appointment at the Genius Bar, where they will explain what's wrong and fix it...

    Dishonest and unreliable

    • Written by Pascale P from Quebec

I try and take as much care as possible of my Macbook Air, as this is a luxury product. However, seeing as it is a portable device, I found it outrageous they force people to buy new adapters (for over a 100$...) because their cable is unreasonably fragile. It is a well documented issue, has been going on for years, and yet they keep on screwing customers. Get it fixed Apple!

    Frail cable

    • Written by Charlotte R from wetherby

Same problem as everyone else. The cable frays at both ends leaving the wires exposed, leading to it not charging properly as well as being a electrical hazard. Yes apple is known for having expensive prices, but £79 for a charger is obscene especially when it breaks so easily and fast.

Died in merely 2.5 years, Too expensive replacement

    • Written by Avinash K from Patna

Apple seems to have become the least reliable company these days. I've got some laptops from other brands that are still going strong, along with their original adapters, even after 7-8 years of heavy uses but this is the first time I've been failed miserably by a laptop's adapter (MagSafe 2). I'm in a far remote, rural area right now, needing to urgently finish and submit a project and thanks to Apple, my project and week is ruined completely. NEVER PURCHASING ANOTHER APPLE DEVICE.

No idea what you are all talking about regarding the reviews you are all giving, had my original MACBook Air charger for just over 3 years and its still all working fine, in fact I am about to purchase another for the office so its permanently their so do not have to mess about... although you could says its being lazy.

Seriously I have seen the way some MAC's are treated and have to say if you treat your MAC like garbage then do not expect it to last!

    Thanks ... satisfied customer.

    Poor design

    • Written by Cassandra L from East Lansing

The cord that goes from the computer to the power block is very fragile. I took care of the charger but after a year and a half the connection between the block and the computer has begun to split open exposing wires. I have taped it up but I am afraid that soon the connection may break. The wire ought to be thicker and stronger near the block to prevent this.

Of all Apple accessories, this is equalled for poor quality only by the phone charger. I am very careful with my equipment, but this began failing before it was 18 months old: insulation turned yellow and began disintegrating. A class-action suit would be a good way to solve this problem. Apple is headed into the toilet.

After reading the reviews here I found out that i'm not the only one. apple need to fix this product because it's extremly costy and doesn't much the brand quality.

rubber frays causing it to fail and over priced.

    • Written by Daniel A from london

This is the second replacement I have Bought since 2014. The previous one lasted less than a year. the rubber at the end of the cable (laptop side) keeps fraying eventually causing it to fail this is just through everyday use that you would expect from a laptop charger. it is also massively over priced at £79. for this price you should expect it to last.

Piece of utter garbage. Third one in almost 4 years.

    • Written by Cecily B from Newbury

I'm generally the type of person to look after expensive products, however I travel with my Air a lot commuting to uni and up & down the country to home, so yes the cable has been well used. However considering what a luxury product it's charging I'd expect the cable to last more then two years at the tune of £70+. The rubber bends and snaps at both ends, especially if you're using the travel version a lot. Forgive me Apple for not wanting to lug around the giant adapter but surely using the travel components shouldn't mean your products design falls apart. Rope platting looks far nicer then your cheap useless rubber, so believe me if I could buy a third party adapter for my Mac like I have my phone, I would. The only good thing about this charger is the aspect that apparently makes it frail, if I could give a product 0.5 stars out of 5 I would.

    Terrible construction

    • Written by MICHAEL A L from Fairbanks

I take insanely good care of my apple products, in particular the power cord, since I know that these things are like the achilles heel of the system. I have had pretty much every generation of apple latptop since the 1990s and never have had problems with the charger. Now I have a deadline approaching, a single machine (this laptop) and when the battery dies, its end-game since the power adapter, which looks flawless mind you, is no longer charging the machine. I used a coworkers and it worked fine so it is no the machine itself.

Guess it was time for Apple to shake me down for another almost 100 bucks for a garbage power supply. sigh.

    It BURNED me

    • Written by Jemima B from Rochdale

It was fine for the first couple of months but then it kept overheating randomly and then one time it burned my finger when i went to touch it so then i knew something was up. They are way too overpriced considering the bad quality and now it doesn't even charge it just keeps it at the same percentage.

Quickest failing power adapter I've owned

    • Written by Spencer N from Albuquerque

Of all the power adapters I've had for laptops, iPads, and iPhones, this one failed in the least time. And it cost the most. The wires at the magnetic plug are intermittent.

The cord on these always seems to fray, exposing the wires. Going through my 3rd in 2 years. The worst made Apple product by a mile. Looking at the 1-star reviews for this product, and the design of the new Macbook, it is clear that Apple is content with being a cord and adapter company that also sells phones and laptops.

I am thinking of buying another brand

    • Written by Susan F from Naperville

I literally have a drawer FULL of power adapters.

I bough my first Mac in the early 90s, but if Apple doesn't do something about the charger problem, I am gone next time I upgrade laptops.

If I could, I wouldn't even give a star because this item doesn't deserve it.

4th Macbook using this charger cable

    • Written by Patty T from Cody

I''m on my 4th MacBook since 2004 that uses this type of charger/cable. I'be had to replace each charger cable that came with each Laptop at least once and often twice. Apple wonders why we buy other replacement cables for IOS devices from Amazon? 1. Most are made much better.
    2. They are Apple Certified and 3. They're cody less and you can choose longer lengths.

Here I am replacing this charger and cable for my MacBook Air which I always order from Apple in case it fries my Laptop.

Apple has made some big mistakes and flops (such as the watch) but also premature updates and cables, cables, cables!!! You would think they could improve on cables as they lose replacement business.

    do NOT buy!!!

    • Written by Pamela S from Fentange

I have been an apple user all my life but this charger is of such bad quality it makes me want to switch to using a PC! I have bought two of these in 14 months. both broke at exactly the same spot (where the cable goes into the actual charger) although I have been super careful. No point in buying in MacBook Air if you end up spending 240$ on chargers in just over one year. They should give you complementary duct tape with it, maybe it would last a little longer...
