    Poor Product

    • Written by Bob S from PHILADELPHIA

I've had Macs for over 30 years. By far, the most badly designed accessory for any Macbook or Mac Air or Mac Pro is the AC adapter. No matter how careful you are, the adapter breaks and shorts out long before it should; it's the Achilles heel of Apple products. At this writing, my early 2014 Macbook Air is like new, but the AC adapter just shorted out. Please, Apple, there's no reason for this.

    Poor quality

    • Written by Robert N from Harrisburg

Have had mine for less than 1 year it it already is broken. I started noticing some wear and tear around 8 months, however just last week I noticed my laptop was not charging. I went to inspect the cord and I found that there was exposed wire, with sparks coming out! For the price I paid for my laptop, I did not expect to have to purchase a new charger 1 year later. My chargers from my other laptop (compaq) have lasted me 8+ years with barely so much as a scratch. Totally disappointed with the quality, however I have no choice but to buy another one. Please Apple, update the quality of your products.

Poor design! Worst part of Apple.

    • Written by Bonnie B from Albuquerque

I've had my Macbook Air for 4 days and I have to say I'm very frustrated with the poor quality of the power adapter. The magnet connection is so weak the thing keeps falling out.
I have been an avid Apple user for the past 10 years. I have owned and currently own the computers, phones, watches. I have had them all and while I am very pleased with most of the products with little complaint, this charge is ridiculous.
I am beginning to regret downsizing from my Macbook Pro with the charger that stayed put for the most part. This not only won't stay connected but it takes far too long to charge the computer.
Please, Please, Please redesign the power adapter!!

    Made by Apple?!?!

    • Written by Gail Y from Honolulu

Add me to the list of the disappointed. I am about to go through my 3rd power adapter. Apple can make such well-built computers, but can't seem to be able to design an equally well-built power adapter . . . maybe add some kind of reinforcing springy something or other, or use a different material? Maybe I'll try building up my cable with a roll of electrical tape or something as soon as I buy another one.

I've had my Macbook Air since November of 2012 and LOVE my computer. I must have good luck because I'm only going on my third cord. The quality of the chargers are such a joke, $79 for something that doesn't last and shreds quite easily. My fiance got his computer a few months after mine (same model) and he also has gone through a few chargers. Between the two of us we've spent almost $375 on chargers in a little over three years. I'm planning on replacing my laptop in 2016 and I am really reconsidering purchasing a Mac next time around because of the ridiculous cost for poor quality accessories.

I too have had a very poor experience with Apple cables and chargers. Cable discolored and stripped near the tip of the MagSafe 2 connector and towards the middle of the cable. I also had to change the AC Plug as the charger overheated and sparks came out every time I plugged it into an outlet. Can't believe Apple stands behind such poorly designed and manufactured product! Also, replacement adapter is way overpriced, considering how cheaply-made it is.

    Really terrible quality

    • Written by Sophie W from Woking

Don't like to leave bad reviews but having to buy my third charger in two years for my MacBook Air. The covering is extremely flimsy and as such the wiring keeps becoming exposed and ceasing to work. Have treated the device with a lot of care since the last two broke. Shame there is no alternative. Please fix this Apple.

    Fragile and expensive

    • Written by Martin T from Graz

The system itself works fine, but the technical execution is inadequate. The cable of my charging device broke where it meets the transformer - the isolation is just too weak to withstand everyday use. Buying a replacement for EUR 89 is incredulously expensive :(

First of all, the charger falls out of the computer very easily and takes awhile to charge the battery. Secondly, the wires have begun to come out at the base of the adapter. It is totally shredded from regular wear and tear. I was electrocuted by the open wires that started to stick out when plugging it in. Now I have to go spend $80 on a new one due to poor design. Based on other reviews, I am not the only one with this issue.

    Shockingly poor design

    • Written by John A from New Zealand

Very poor design of the computer end of the cable and the price is a rip-off.
The flat plug projects from the side of the computer and repeatedly gets knocked off when using on your knee or lying down e.g. to watch a movie.
The cable easily frays where it enters the plug, splitting, kinking and exposing the wire metal wrapping. A poor looking advertisement for Apple products.
Apple should be thoroughly ashamed of the Mag 2 power adapter. The Mag 1 adapter, lying flat along the side of the computer, was much better.
But then the Mac laptop line is languishing, with heavy metal cases, too wide bezels, and dumbed-down software.

Just got to work on a Monday morning with low battery life and discovered I no longer have a charger because the cord is severed where it meets the white square base. Now I have to leave work and drop $80 for a new piece of trash. Apple is losing it and must think their customers are idiots.

    Not functional

    • Written by Rogier E from Amsterdam

Bought the 2015 Macbook Air, after having the 2011 edition for years. With that purchase a new type of charger came as well. It's safe to say that I miss the 'L-style MagSafe' which would fit perfectly on the Macbook and would never come loose.

The new power adapter continuously detaches from the Macbook since it sticks out more than the earlier version. I don't really understand why the design team would change this. So far I can't say much about the quality because I've only been using it for a month.

Design-wise: not functional at all, very poor job unfortunately.

Falls off easily, Breaks easily, Super expensive

    • Written by Vienna L from Arcadia

This charger is the worst. Its magnet connecting to the laptop is too weak, so it falls off really easily and the laptop always runs out of batteries before I notice it's disconnected. Then after using for a year, the cord just broke off. Couldn't use it anymore. I wanted to buy a new charger from Apple as a replacement but it's so expensive... I mean, $80 for a charger that doesn't charge well and breaks in a year? I might get a knockoff one instead.

    Macbook Achilles' heel

    • Written by Giorgio G from roma

The charger (and specifically its cord) is the weakest point of all Macbooks. In my experience, you just have to assume it will break at some point and you would not be able to work anymore if you are in a country or remote area out of easy reach of an Apple Store. Bringing a spare charger with you is the only safe option to be sure you get your job done in those cases. Its price, however, adds insult to injury.

    • Written by Joseph B from Winona

I have been an Apple lover since day one. Everything i own is Apple. However, I have been having issues with their cords, computers, really everything. It is a shame how fast a company can fall from grace. It truly makes me sad. I wish I could post pictures so everyone could see how bad this cords really gets after such a short time frame.
