    Apple lightning to AV adapter

This product is no good. Worked fine for a couple of weeks. On my third one now and doing the same thing. Second was bad right away. Didn’t have the time to take back. Was very gentle with second and third one. Connection will eventually go bad. Have to wiggle to make it work. Placed it on floor and just the vibration of walking makes it disconnect. I have read a bunch of reviews of people with same problem

    Junk

    • Written by Candie M from Fredericksburg

I bought this a little over a month ago and it wouldn’t work on my iPhone 5 or 8. My husband had an iPad it wouldn’t work on there either. All we got was sound to the tv. And I paid $50 plus a protection plan. I want my money back. This is the worst

    It just works‼️ 😁

    • Written by Brian D from Hatboro

I purchased this cable a few months ago to watch movies that I had purchased from the iTunes Store.
I was concerned about the quality based on the sheer number of negative reviews, however I can report that this cable works perfectly.
I plan on purchasing ALLOT more movies from the iTunes Store real soon.

Digital AV adaptor works on iPhone7Plus

    • Written by Frederic B H from Montreal

I have been using the Lightning Digital AV adapter with my iPhone7Plus connected to an NEC N770 digital projector, and my adaptor works great. I am use it to teach classes on how to use their smartphone settings, and both the video and audio have worked fine.

When I first plugged it in, I had no signal. To see a video signal, I had to enter my password on my iPhone 7Plus. Once I did that, the home screen came up.

I use my iPhone to demo the Snapseed photo app and FilmicPro video app - works fine, with no interruptions.

To others treading this who are having issues, if you’re feeding a monitor or TV via HDMI cable, make sure you have the monitor setup for the right type of signal, that is 1080p HD format. Feeding into a 4k TV will produce a smaller image, unless you have the television set to auto fit, or auto scale (check your tv menu settings- under advanced).

For others having interruption of videos, or their stopping all together, you may have a wifi issue in your home. I upgraded my wifi to 5 gigbyte transmission, and changed the frequency, and that solved the issue of not being able to stream smoothly onto my home monitor.

I have been using my adapter for one month. I am using IOS 12.1 and have not upgraded to the latest. Having read the horror stories above, I will wait until after I have finished my lectures in April before upgrading!

Cheers! Frederic in Montreal

This AV adapter REQUIRES the use of the USB power cable

    • Written by Philip C C from Belmont

I purchased this digital AV adapter to project Keynote presentations on my iPhone SE to the HDMI port on a projector or TV. The dongle, which has a lightning plug to plug into the phone provides two receptacles: HDMI and lightning, plus the box includes a lightning to USB cable. My impression was that the lightning receptacle "could" be used to charge my phone. In reality, the lightning receptacle "must" be connected to a USB power source (power adapter, battery, or laptop USB port) for the AV adapter to work. Apparently, the lightning port of the phone does not provide sufficient power to drive the HDMI conversion. Needing that USB power source is really inconvenient, especially considering that the old 30-pin to VGA adapter did not require it.

    It’s the update

    • Written by Jon W from Redding

The lightning still works with my older iPads. My newer iPad worked fine until I did the newer update. Apple needs to fix it on the next update. I knew I shouldn’t have updated to 12. Apple sliding , sliding... apple should tell everyone so they don’t think it is their cable or tv or even the lightning switch. People are really mad because they used to use it at hotels or friend’s houses. Was it just bad programming?

    Bought tonight 3/02/19

    • Written by JERRY M from Tulsa

What a worthless pile of trash. Never worked from the first time it was plugged in. Glad I bought it tonight because I will be getting my $50 bucks back and the thieves at Apple should feel ashamed for putting such a terrible product on the shelves. This company has gone way down hill since Steve Jobs died. I am so happy that I never converted my entire residence into terrible and inferior products from Apple. I have had iPhones since 99 but I am really contemplating going over to a SONY phone just because of all the these CEO’s are trying to pull over on their customers. I really miss Steve Jobs...

    Purchased Adapter HDMI cable

    • Written by Jess R from Costa Mesa

Kinda wish I would have read the reviews before purchasing as having the same issues as everyone else.

Purchased maybe like a week or two ago and now the screen blacks out/ pauses whenever my screenlocks on its own.

Was hoping there is a fix for these but seems highly unlikely..

Not worth the purchase if you arent wanting to get up every 5 minutes to fix/ unlock your screen.

iOS upgrade made Adapter unrecognizable to iPad

    • Written by Stacy S from Attica

Purchased at first of year as we now work at home. We have 3 iPads, 2 iPhones, an iMac and a number of other computers, music, TV, etc- all Apple products as we switched long ago from Sony.. Over the years, we’ve sadly experienced the slide as quality, customers, & plain good solid finished products have lost their priority for something far more important as it must be, to risk so many unhappy customers. We too have about had it with Apples ludicrous suggestions to clean, fix, and replace nearly new equipment every time they ‘upgrade’ to fix their last round of ‘oops’ yet even now our Ipads all freeze, wont recognize chargers, & have scrambled so much of the photo files, they’re nearly unusable. My advice is to look elsewhere as we will be doing if this company doesn’t do something and I mean quick (highly unlikely) to turn all this unhappiness and frustration around. We have become technological dependent and Apple keeps consistently forcing us to go stone cold sober when we pay huge amounts of money to stay elated. Not ok! Then takes no responsibility & attempts to lay blame on customer- even less ok. Grrrr. Fix this!

    Just like the others

    • Written by Melissa Z from Hermitage

I am super bummed too. Like the others, I am experiencing the TV freeze and the TV blackout, but with audio, after less than a month of purchasing the product. I am up to speed with IOS 12.1.4. I was raving last week about this being the best $50 I ever spent, only to be cussing it this week because it isn't working properly. I think it worked well for me for only about two-three weeks. I am still hopefully that it is the TV I am using or the HDMI cord. I don't want to give up hope, but after reading all of the reviews that sound just like the issues I'm having, it is doubtful this product will turn around and be able to be used for it's intended purpose. I purchased the adapter to be able to do my BeachBody On Demand. I am super, super bummed as I wanted to be able to work out using the big screen and not my phone. The product is a true disappointment.

    Good so far

    • Written by Ron K from Saskatoon

This cable is very easy to use and easily connected. I can stream from my iPhone and iPad and mirror to my TV. I see that from previous reviews, it quit working after a while, but as I say, good so far. I have given a four star rating because the cable is outrageously expensive. No reason for it to cost that type of money. I did order a cable from Amazon to start with, but returned it because it simply did not work.

    Cordcutter here, minor issues

    • Written by Todd S from Flushing

I cut the cord with a certain cable company (rhymes with Bombast), and thought this was the cat's PJs to use with my (rhymes with horizon) unlimited plan.

It was — until it simply quit working in my iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 7.

I thought the dongle might be defective, and initiated a return/repair with Apple.

Further digging online (not via Apple) revealed a 12.1 issue/bug.

A great Apple employee confirmed it. (After four calls to other employees/departments.)

Updated to 12.1.3, and voila! It works again.

$50 dongle versus $150 for cable? Priceless.
