    Time Capsule

Had my time capsule since 2013. Never had any issues. Wish APPLE would update the firmware or are they planning on discontinue it.

Great Router & Backup Device; Needs Updating

I'm thrilled with my Time Capsule, but it needs updating and loses a star for that. Time Machine backups are a breeze and AirPort Utility is easy to use. Plus there's added benefit to being able to back up multiple systems seamlessly to this device, rather than the limited information backed up by iCloud. However, this product does need updating. A genuine mesh system with the AirPort Express would be a nice upgrade, with MU-MIMO, the next 802.11 standard, Siri functionality, and an added layer of security for IoT devices at the router - rather than having to rely on IoT device makers providing necessary security. AirPort Utility could also use more features, like the ability for an owner to pause internet access to given devices for a chosen amount of time, or for a period of the day like 10PM to 6AM. AirPort devices are a backbone of the Apple Ecosystem and shouldn't be disregarded, since it's the seamlessness of the ecosystem that makes it so valuable. If people have to go outside it for these devices, it becomes easier to do so for TV, computers, and phones.

    it does just work

I had previously bought a nether and a linksys router. Both died after just over a year. I am now going on my 3rd year with the AirPort TC and it is still going great. Coverage is, not great. As with all routers placement is key. Thats one advantage of this device. Its compact enough and looks good enough that you don't have the need to hide it off in a closet.

The TC portion does work good. The HD speed is a bit slow so data recovery is not real fast, but haven't everything built into my device is good. As with all HD, you quickly realize that you probably need a larger HD and its not easy to replace in the TC, though you can plug a USB HD into the back, but then speed is even slower.

The device is pricey for what you it appears you are getting, but I am very happy with it and would buy again (though probably not with the TC portion and just use my own HD).

    Great

Personally, I got my mac and AirPort because my grandfather didn't know how to use it. I never really knew what the AirPort was either. But I had some trouble at first but otherwise, I love it.

    Saved my bacon (twice)

Has to be said, these Time Capsules are invaluable when all else fails. Although 99.9% of the time, your mac book will be stable and problem free, when a Macbook dies it dies hard. For example, just spent the last 22 hours restoring a full backup (which was taken automatically earlier the same morning), after my Macbook Pro failed to restart after installing the Sierra update and booted into command line. Without the Time Capsule I would be heartbroken right now.
This is the second time the TimeCapsule has saved my life. My first Macbook Pro was STOLEN! Another situation when your TimeCapsule will save your life too. JUST MAKE SURE YOU HAVE BACKUPS BEFORE DOING UPDATES, AND A SPARE DAY TO RESTORE IT !

Saved my bacon a number of times

This would be a 5* review except I couldn't get it to join my network fully wirelessly. I wanted to site it hidden, out of the way somewhere, and join the network wirelessly but after extensive research, it appears it can't do this so I have it ethernet wired into my router. Aside from that issue, it works a treat. My MacBook Pro backs up to it each hour, and I've done a number of full restores with it (once to a new SSD drive which saved me having to buy cloning software and once to a replacement SSD) and the odd single file restore. Not the quickest thing over wifi but in my case a full restore was 500GB so understandable.

    Easy, Quick

Have been using for about two months with no issues.

Very easy to set up. AC speeds are very good. Backup works seamlessly and easily. It just works.

The range is not quite as good as some new routers, but it is a solid combination of features and is much easier to set up than the other routers. Using in a 3500 square foot house with good coverage.

The only reason I rated four stars instead of five is because I think we ought to be able to set aside some of the drive space for our own use as a home server so that we do not have to rely on cloud services.

Despite that, I would definitely buy this again.
