unpopular opinion: works fine for me

    • Written by Joe H from North Haven

Looking at all of the reviews for this it feels weird to say but mine works fine. It fits the accessories I have (drawing tablet, USB drive, hard drives) and works fine so far (it's been about a month). But maybe I was lucky. I have no idea. Anyways, I would recommend this product despite the 2 star rating and hope that you also get "lucky" and have a working unit like mine.

    Odd discovery

    • Written by David H from Millbrae

I have a new MacBook Pro. I found that if I plug my USB device into the adapter first then plug the C end into the laptop it works with USB 2 and 3 also an external hard drive that have been used for Windows. However, if I plug the C end in first then the USB devices into the adapter the computer sees the device but not the files on the device. And yes I know I cannot write to these Windows devices until they are formatted for the MacBook, but I can open the files and view them. Also all my usb devices plug into the adapter with no problem.

    No issues, works as expected

    • Written by Marc S from Garden Grove

It works as I expected an Apple product to work... it just does. I am not sure what other reviewers experienced when they had to force a USB device into the adapter. Perhaps, it is the device they are using or maybe—as is all too common with USB, they are simply inserting it the wrong way. A normal USB cable worked without issue for me. Very universal device, as I can use my existing SD card reader, hard drives, printers, and even a USB hub. No issues. Aside from currently needing a dongle to use USB, I like the product. I expect in the near future, all will be USB-C anyway... and we won't need to worry about constantly putting in a USB device perpetually the wrong way.

Works perfect for me, BUT you have to break it in first!

    • Written by Michele L from Spring Lake

This was a necessity after upgrading from the MacBook Pro Late 2013 model and not having any USB-C cable adapters. Mine works great, data transfer works good and functionality in general works great. Initially I was a little concerned after seeing all the bad reviews... but I needed it so I was willing to take a chance. However, right after I purchased it, I had taken it right back to the store because I couldn't get anything to plug into it (I couldn't even connect my iPhone X to the MacBook for my initial sync on the new computer for backups). The store rep actually told me they were aware of the complaints with how hard it is to plug anything into it the first time, and said it has to be forced to 'break it in' on initial use. So he took a USB lightning cable and forced it for me, and then it worked good. Not sure what they could be thinking with this design but I made a 45 min trip back to the store thinking it was a bad USB connector... luckily I arranged to do other errands in the area so it wasn't a complete waste of a trip because I wasn't real happy about that! It did work though, and it works quite well... no complaints now that it's been broke in.

    Works Just Fine

    • Written by Cara S from Somers

So I got 2 of these recently when I had to get a new MacBook Pro (my MacBook Pro 2011 died sadly) so that I could still attach flash drives, my external Blu-ray burner and all my external hard drives to my new computer. I read a bunch of the negative reviews and I was worried. But I didn't have to be, both of these work fine, I've used them several times on several different things. So here's what I realized. Most people only leave reviews when something doesn't work so all the defective connectors are what people are reviewing. SO IF YOU GET THIS AND IT WORKS LEAVE A POSITIVE REVIEW. Also if you get it and it doesn't, before jumping on here and complaining try contacting Apple and getting a replacement. Because there are always some lemons with everything made.

I brought this with my new MacBook Pro and it has been such a good tool - having the USB not but up to the computer is a great feature, when I type I used to rest my hand on the USB. It doesn't disconnect or fail when you move around.

I used this adapter to attach my old card reader to my new MacBook Pro. It is a perfect fit and it works just fine. I am confused by the bad reviews. Apple is always improving their products and making the world a better place.

    Perfect solution for the future

    • Written by Dawn I from Fountain Hills

I have no idea what the negative reviews are about. This is a perfect and reasonable solution to access any device to the MacBook Air. It works great with thumb drives and external hard drive devices. Get over the fact that you need this and spend the $20.

    USB-C to USB Adapter

    • Written by Zachary G from Whittier

This adapter isn't bad. Just picked one up today. It charges consistently, data transfer is excellent, and the quality is great. The only thing is you have to make sure the slots line up perfectly then slide it in. I look forward to use this product often.

    Very Reliable

    • Written by Betty R B from MONTICELLO

I give this a 5 because I have had 100% success with this adapter for the past year. I have connected USB 2.0 and USB 3 devices with total reliability to the thunderbolt 3 ports of newer Macs. I have successfully transferred large amounts of data as well as - no data loss. Some people report problems but I have had none and can continue to use my legacy equipment.

Does exactly what it's supposed to do.

    • Written by David W from Birmingham

I really don’t understand all the complaints about this dongle. The elegance of having only USB-C ports is that (1) all cables (power, peripherals, etc.) will ONLY connect via USB-C, so you will NEVER have to worry about whether or not you have the right cable. All the cables will be right! The only cable left to switch over is the Lightning port, which really looks too much like USB-C anyway and really NEEDS to switch to USB-C. (2) The USB-C adapter, like the Lightning adapter, works the same right side up or upside down. In other words, unlike the old USB adapters, it doesn't matter which way you plug it in...it will always work. This is obviously SO MUCH BETTER than the old USB, not even accounting for how much more bandwidth and power it can handle, that it really doesn't make sense to have anything but USB-C.

So, for all the whiners out there complaining about carrying around too many dongles, here's a suggestion: buy one of these adapters for every USB peripheral you own and simply leave the dongle plugged into the cable. Now, it's just an extension of that USB cable you already own. But now your cable is a few cm longer. Oh, and if the $19 x the number of peripherals you own is going to break the bank, maybe you're buying the wrong brand of computer in the first place. If you spend $2,000 plus on a laptop, then another $100 or so in dongles shouldn't be stressing you out so much.

For those thinking about buying this...if you think you need it, then yes, you need it. Just buy it and know that you’ll have the Apple brand dongle which is meant to work with your Apple brand computer.

    Works perfect

    • Written by Richard A from Gurnee

I bought 2 of these to go with my new 13" Macbook Pro. Because of the negative reviews here, I had some trepidation. So, I took my laptop along with an external HD that I wanted to use it with to the Apple store to test this adapter before buying. At first, the salesperson at the Apple store wanted me to purchase them before I could try them to see if there was any problems. But shortly decided that it would just be easier to go ahead and check them right away. They both worked perfectly the first time and of course I purchased them on the spot. I brought them home and tried them also with a thumbdrive and had the same result. Now I can have 2 external drives connected at the same time and can transfer between the drives if I need to. Lesson learned. Don't always believe the negative reviews. Try it and decide for yourself.

Works Perfectly - I've never had an issue with it

    • Written by Joseph H from TEMPLE TERRACE

I have never had an issue with this adapter and I own 2 of them. I am almost positive that most, if not all, of these 1 and 2 star reviews below (or above? I didn't look to see how reviews were sorted before writing this... maybe I should do that now ... eh, that would mean I would have to copy all of this and paste it back - too much work) were written either by competing 3rd-party sellers or by consumers that have some kind of vendetta against Apple. If you'll notice, all accessories like these, that are also made and sold by 3rd-party companies, have awful reviews, and all of the reviews are very similar: the titles are all very creative (::sarcastic brow raise::) with things like "AWFUL", "Doesn't work, GARBAGE", "Piece of Junk!", "DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!" etc. I'm sure that none of it is genuine. This is not to say that no consumer is dissatisfied with their product, but it is highly unlikely that it is this common and with almost all of Apple's products.

    Does what it's promised to.

    • Written by Maria O from Pittsfield

Like anyone I'm not really glad that my MacBook comes with a single port--or the fact that it's a NON standard type of port that requires adapters if I want to use it for anything I own, even my iPhone X connecter. HOWEVER, that shouldn't and doesn't reflect my review of this adapter. It worked perfectly as soon as I took it out of the packaging, it was quick, not fussy at all! I'm genuinely surprised at all the negative reviews. This cord works fine. Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews.

    Not bad

    • Written by Mason Z from Columbus

I'm actually fine with the sacrifice of USB-3 ports and other ports, since this isn't a bad product, There are lots of new products that are being made that have Thunderbolt-3 ports, and for anything that has a USB, just simply get an adapter, It also is a lot stronger then an iPhone or iPad charger since it's shorter, so it won't get damaged easily
