    Works perfectly

    • Written by Thomas M from Brooklyn

Guessing iOS 12 has been updated since all these scathing reviews have been written. Just bought mine to replace the old 30 pin camera connection kit and it seems to be super fast with no issues. (I tried really hard to not say 'as fast as lightning')

    It works!

    • Written by Benjamin C from Kapolei

I bought this item at Best Buy 3 weeks ago and at first i doubted if it really works because of bad reviews but i bought it anyway for my iphone xs max. I shoot raw and i could transfer all the raw pics to my iphone. I had my phone updated to ios 12.3 last night and tried again today, good to say it is working transferring my raw pics.

    SD card Reader

    • Written by Kisha K from Landisville

Works well on lower GB cards, but...My iPhone 6S plus nor my brand new iPad Air 3 will NOT acknowledge my 32GB SD card. Very frustrating that technology can’t keep up with each other. I just purchased the iPad and thought it would read the higher GB cards - NOT! It will acknowledge lower cards, however. I travel a lot and am a photographer so not being able to view my photos on my iPad is frustrating that I can’t use the higher GB cards! So guess the problem is with the phone and iPad not the reader.

    Works as advertised

    • Written by Bernd S from San Diego

I can confirm this adapter, part number MJYT2AM/A, model A1595, works with iOS 12.2 on iPhone 7 and iPad 6. I can import pictures and movies from my Canon camera and DJI drone. I could not import AVI files from my Trail camera, so there are some limitations on what movie codes are supported. Files import with their original file names, in original size with EXIF details. Files will be placed in Camera roll as well as special import folder if so chosen. I tried different SanDisk SD and microSD cards up to 64 GB and all work fine. I am not sure why some people report problems getting their adapter to work (older model?, not genuine Apple product?). 4-stars since it is quite expensive.

Works well if you accept its limitations

    • Written by Michael G from Wigan

Works well rapidly importing images and videos from cameras saved to an SD card to the iPhone/iPad. Just don’t expect it to do anything else.

It allows handy full screen viewing and deleting of images/videos on the card before you import, the transfer is one way only. You can’t play the videos until you’ve imported them though which is frustrating, I use this for reviewing hundreds of images/videos taken by a trail cam. If you want to do anything else then you’re out of luck, although there are some work arounds on the net that allow importing of other files. Apple evidently doesn’t want this device being used as handy extra storage for i devices or as a way of circumventing iTunes... Looking at some of the other reviews Apple should be more open about this.

    Won't work with ios12

    • Written by Sunshine V from Newland

Was working great on ios11. After automatic update to ios12, images won't load onto iphone 8, or any of my 5 different ipads. It's the operating system but Apple refuses to do anything about it! Sad.

Review... Just wasted lots of money and time of a Apple Lightng to SD card

    • Written by Gene S from Albuquerque

Purchased at Best buy... should have done more research... Just purchased IPad Pro 2 weeks ago and assumed since i was to I’d be able to upload videos and pics could be imported with a lightning to card reader adapted fo apple... NOPE... the techs spend almost 2 hours and opened several new units to get them to read and nothing doing ... refund for bad product ...believe it is the Operating system that’s flawed.

Works but basic functionality. JPEG only

    • Written by Paul B from Southampton

I have just bought a new iPad Mini 5th Gen running iOS 12.2. I want to transfer photos from my Panasonic GX9, which I can do wirelessly but the idea of this gadget is to make that a quicker and simpler process.
The camera can take JPEGs at 5, 10 or 20 MP. I can put the SD card in the reader and Photos opens on the iPad and it will transfer all or some of the pictures. So the basic process works. However, as people have already remarked, there is only a thumbnail size preview available, which is pretty poor. There is NO other information whatsoever in Photos, before or after import, not even basic info such as file name, date and time, resolution. That is REALLY poor!
The camera can also record in RAW format - 20MP obviously. Photos does import these but RESIZES them to a useless 1920*1440 !! This is bizarre!! If I take a photo in RAW + JPEG, Photos ignores the RAW file completely and only imports the JPEG.
Half of the questions in the Q&A ask if it can write to an SD card. It definitely can't and the Files app doesn't even see the card. So you can't use an SD card for transfer or backup. Another glaring omission. Oddly, it lets you delete from the card, which you wouldn't want to do so that's a useless function.
    In summary:
it does what it says, but only for JPEG and it's more difficult than it should be.
It's no use for RAW (maybe that's just Panasonic, but I wouldn't bet on that).
It could be much more useful than it is. I would expect better for the money.

    It worked great but...

    • Written by Denise H from Caldwell

I have an iPhone 6S and I purchased the Lightning to SD card about two years ago. It worked fantastic, transferring photos as needed. I did not have any problems with it.

But 5 days ago I updated my phone to iOS 12.2 and the transfer card no longer works. I get a message that states ‘contents not available. cannot read the connected storage media’.

I hope Apple is paying attention to everyone’s comments and will make a fix. I used this device several times a week.

    Sad

    • Written by Jacinda M from White City

I spent almost a thousand dollars today on a new iPad mini, compatible pencil, Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader, Lightning to Digital AV adapter, and a Bose Wi/fi/bluetooth speaker. I chose this size of device over an iPod because, in addition to playing my music, I wanted to display my photos. I came home and synced my music, then attempted to upload my photos using this new $33 SD Card Reader and it simply wouldn't show me any photos, let alone let me choose which to import. Then I googled "why won't my..." and came here to find all of these poor reviews :( I wish I had looked before but, to be honest, I never imagined that Apple would be selling an accessory that simply doesn't work as advertised. I'm disappointed and want my money back. I don't like using a cloud for my photos, but I'll try to find another way.
    Sincerely,
    Disappointed

Latest update throws a spanner in the works .

    • Written by Stewart M from Bishopbriggs

Mine no longer works after the latest software update . I’ve spoken to one of Apples support staff , and she advised me to restore my IPad Pro . I asked if that would roll back the updates , and she said it won’t ! Pretty pointless advice .
She also seemed to be under the impression that Apple don’t make this device ! I tested it on my girlfriends Pro , running on IOS 9 something , and it worked fine !

    Doesn’t work with iPhone XR

    • Written by Matthew O from Lakeville

I purchased this Sd card reader so that I can get photos and vidios from my Phantom 4 pro’s SD card to my iphone. I noticed a few problems: First, the SD card reader doesn’t work on my iPhone XR which defeats the purpose of buying it, second, the reader can only view and download JPEG photos and videos (tried it on my old iPhone SE) which won’t work for me either because I shoot RAW. With this product you can download photos from a GoPro if you have a phone that it works with.

Brand new SD card reader, my iphone XS max crashes when used and my ipad Pro won’t find anything.
Please fix, it seems that I am not the only one. A shame that this product is being sold in the first place if it crashes an apple device... words can not express my dissapointment.
