    SD reader no longer compatible

    • Written by Rebecca B from Pickerington

I have used this product for at least 3 years with no problem. Then, all of the sudden, it’s not compatible to this iPad? My camera is the same, my SD card is the same, I haven’t done anything different. Clearly, this is a fail on Apple’s side

    What happened to Apple

    • Written by Roman Z from Näfels

I used the SD card adapter for years and was very happy with it. Since the upgrade to iOS 11 it simply does not work anymore. I tried the work around but also that did not work. I cannot recommend buying this item anymore.

Device not compatible with latest 10.3.2 update

    • Written by Rohan V from Windlesham

If you've already uploaded 10.3.2 then you are too late! This device won't work. Nice one Apple! I have been using this device successfully for the past 2 months whilst travelling the world to backup all my photos to my iPad (then via the cloud). But on updating the software to 10.3.2 it's stopped working, saying it doesn't recognise the device. Apple please fix this bug asap. Get a tech guy on this pronto.

    Apple should be ashamed

    • Written by Ali A from Alliston

I have been an apple iPad user for years and the attraction to apple was due to the fact that all of their accessories worked well with all apple devices. I was very disappointed on my trip to Antarctica to find that I couldn’t transfer my photos from my SD card to my iPad because I received an error message stating accessory not supported by this iPad. When I investigated this error message online, I saw a plethora of posts dating back to October of 2017 that the update to ios11 has made this accessory useless. Apple has had 5 months since the update to rectify this issue but has chosen not to. Are they going to introduce a new SD card reader so that everyone can rush to the store and buy it so that it is compatible with ios11? Shame on you, Apple.

    I can’t rate it 0

    • Written by Greg J from Launceston

I have been a semi-professional photographer for many years now, when I travel one of the things I love to do is load my images onto my iPad and share on social media. That hasn’t been a problem until the version 11 update, now all I get is “this accessory is not supported by this iPad”
I have been scouring the net for months for a solution with no luck. In the words of Jeremy Clarkson “HOW HARD COULD IT BE”
Seriously Apple fix it. Lots of disappointed people, not good for sales or don’t you care

♦WARNING♦ Does not import photos or videos from all cameras or drones

    • Written by Doug A from Greenville

This device imports photos and/or videos from the SD card if the photos and videos are stored in a folder named DCIM. The problem is not all cameras put photos and videos in this folder.

I have a Hubsan H501S / H501C camera quad-copter drone. My drone takes photos and videos and stores them in a removable micro SD card in folders named JPG and VIDEO.

The ONLY reason I purchased this device was to move photos and video I took with my drones from the micro-SD card to my iPhone and/or iPad. Now Apple has my money and I have a adapter that does not work for me.

The only way I can get this device to work is to first insert my SD card into my Windows laptop, copy the photos and videos then paste the media into a folder named DCIM. Then it works. But to do that, I need to bring my Windoes laptop with me so then I did not need this device.

The thing is Apple could fix this issue with a software update. Here is hoping they do.

Until Apple corrects this issue, I do not recommend this product.

    Not for me...

    • Written by John T from Sachse

I recently purchased an iPad "Pro" and wanted a way to view my videos while out in the field. Enter the SD Card reader. I immediately found it will not work for my use. In order to read the files on the card the capture device must store the files in a way Apple likes. My Blackmagic Pocket doesn't do this. My GH4 doesn't do it either. Apple doesn't allow you to view all files on a card so I was out of luck. For fun I tried a sd card that I stored files the way Apple likes. The Ipad "Pro" did see the files but now I can't preview them. I have to download the files to the iPad "Pro" first. It's a 256gb card with <120gb Ipad. So what's the point of the SD Card reader? I don't think it's the SD Card reader's issue but limitations in iOS. This is disappointing for a device that has "Pro" in its title.

    Buyer Beware

    • Written by Matthew F from Glendale

If you are a professional photographer and you were drawn to the reader because of all the "unbiased" reviews you saw online; think again. I bought this a few months ago and it has never worked completely. JPEGs will usually all get transferred to the iPad. However, if you are shooting RAW and hoping to import them to your iPad, and sync them with Lightroom mobile so you have a raw back up. It would be better to pass on the iPad and adapter and just get a laptop. Sometimes my RAW files never show up on the iPad and sometimes some of them show up. It is NOT A RELIABLE BACKUP. I have been on the phone with Apple support numerous times and I keep getting sent to "higher up" tech that can not offer a solution other than wipe your iPad clean and reinstall everything and see it that works... if not, we will address it in a future update. I will like I wasted $1000 on the iPad pro and another $29 for the adapter since I bought it specifically to backup and edit in the field.... Currently using a 2017 12inch iPad Pro with the 11.2.5 firmware update

Can't Import More than 150 JPEGs

    • Written by Simon C from El Cerrito

As a working professional photographer, I would like to rely on my iPad 10.5" and SD card reader for on-the-go shoots. However, this piece of junk cannot import more than 150 photos without crashing. Every time.

I took the product to the apple store and they recreated the issue with two brand new iPads, with three different SD card readers, and with two different SD cards.

Fix your product Apple, this thing would be so useful if it did not crash every time I used it.

“This accessory is not supported (anymore???) by this iPad” (iOS 11.2.1)

    • Written by Sofoklis K from Docklands

I bought the Camera Connection kit a few years ago (the 30 pin version) and when the lightning connector was introduced, I bought a lightning to 30 pin adapter from Apple.
The Camera Connection kit was working without issues all this time, until I tried it on iOS 11.2.1 and 11.2.5 beta.
I’m constantly getting the message “This accessory is not supported by this iPad”. (IPad Air 2 on iOS 11.2.5 beta1)
I tried it on my iPhone 7 Plus on iOS 11.2.1 with the same result.
I formatted the SD Card in the camera just in case although the last time it was also formatted in the camera and again the same result.
Then I tried to connect it to my older iPhone 5 on iOS 10.3.3 and to my surprise it worked just fine!!!
Apple just killed their own accessory!!
I’won’t be surprised if a new SD Card reader is introduced soon to replace this jus so we spend more money to buy again the same things over and over!!!
    Totally disappointed!!!

    Stopped Working after iPad Update

    • Written by Jim W from Newport

This Apple device worked great for 9-10 months allowing me to transfer photos from my trail cams SD cards to my iPad. After recent software update I started getting poor and sporatic service from it. Most of time won't recognize SD cards at all. When it does, it stops working mid-stream transfer and I get a pop up saying device is not compatible with the iPad. When will Apple fix the problem they just created with their latest update? See that others are having same problem. Give it 4 stars when it worked, but gets 1 star now (only because I hope it will return to service once Apple gets on the stick and fixes it).

What is this wasted device in my pocket?

    • Written by Thakorn J from Kannayao

I have this lightning to SD Card adapter for half a year and has been using it frequently with my Ipad PRO 12.9 64GB model. I love it so much, because I can show a high resolution image to my clients on site. But after I updated to this new version of OS it’s no longer working not even detected the device. I was panicking if things was broken down or something, but when I do some searching and reading it seem a lot of apple device have this problem after the updated.

I’ve try every way possible to fix this problem even reset my ipad setting once but still no hope. So I hope apple will look at this seriously and fixing this soon, I mean it has been working just fine on my Iphone 6 running 11.0.3 i even test import on it and it work just fine!

here is my set up for those who want to know
Camera : Nikon D810 shoot in RAW, JPG, TIFF, uncompress raw( none of it work it must be the OS rather than the camera)
APPLE DEVICE : Ipad pro 12.9 wifi 64GB

I give this 1 star since IT IS YOUR OFFICIAL PRODUCT AND IT DIDN’T WORK!
