Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader Review

    • Written by Robert J from Fallon

Works! I use to import digital pics from my Sony Cybersot Digital camera to my iPad Pro (10.5) using 8GB SDHC card. Connects to my iPad Pro Photos app automatically! I am also using to import digital pics that I have converted from 35mm slides using a “Digitnow” Film scanner via a 512MB ScanDisk. Connects to my iPad Pro Photos app automatically— scanner labels digital pics as PICT0001.jpg, PICT0002.jpg, etc., but pics import to Photos apps with no problem. Excellent product!

    Bought yesterday It doesn’t work...

    • Written by Sandro S from Roma

...both on iOS 12.1.1 on iPad mini 2 16 Gbytes and 12.1.2 on iPhone SE 32 Gbytes .
Firmware version is 1.0.2 while hardware version is 1.0.0.
Hope to give a better rate in close future. Now I’m disappointed.
Any suggestion? Thanks for a prompt reply and a fix.

    Not working on iOS 12

    • Written by Uriel B from Miami

After upgrading to iOS 12 my lightning SD card reader doesn't work in my iPhone 8 neither my wife iPhone X.

I tried the same SD card reader in another iOS device with iOS version below 12 and work perfectly.

    Stunningly ineffective

    • Written by Raphael S from Hebron

contrary to the description, it does not import video. apparently there are workarounds. but as Steve used to say it “doesnt” just work. Ives has lost his way and we left with dongles and adapters for everything, many which are cumbersome at best...agh.

As per previous comments. Unfortunately this reader was working fine prior to ios12 update on phone and IPad. Please Apple... fix this issue on the next iOS update or provide an alternative workaround.

I recommend NOT TO BUY IT. Its a waste of money... and i'll be returning it to the store today. JUNK!

    This product... is utterly terrible

    • Written by Nathalie R from Mississauga

There are no words to describe how horrible this product is, but I'll try my best. I bought this product in hopes not hot having to bring my laptop with me on vacation-- i would bring my phone, action camera and this SD Card Camera Reader. I purchased it for $39 (too much money...) went home, and tried it out. The product merely opens the Photos app for me and thats all it does. Doesn't transfer files, at all. I looked at the reviews here and saw how one guy suggested renaming the files, that didn't work either! This product is absolute garbage and a waste of money all together. I doesn't even work with micro sd cards and the adapters.

    Stopped working

    • Written by Katie W from Gainesville

I bought this product so I could import photos directly to my phone. I’m currently abroad in Africa and won’t be back in the states for at least 2 years. Carrying around my phone and small camera with this portable adapter seemed like the perfect solution so I wouldn’t have to carry my laptop with me everywhere. The adapter worked the first few times but now it corrupts the third photo every time I import photos. I can directly import from my camera to my laptop and have no problems. Except I have iOS 12 on my phone making it unreadable on my laptop until I update it to the new software system except I’m in a country that has slow internet connection making it difficult to do this. All around Apple has botched this experience and I will be looking for a new adapter as soon as possible and it will not be with Apple.

Cannot read any file you want. Cannot not import any simple photo or video you want. Only for use with files straight out of a camera... Also, 30 DOLLARS?!

Needs an update. Don't use with most recent iOS

    • Written by Tommy H from Phegans Bay

Bought this yesterday to be able to transfer photos from my camera to iPad in the field. It only imports photos off a fresh card on the latest iOS. If I erase the card in the camera, then the iPad (running iOS 12) will see the next photos taken. If you put that card back in the camera and take more photos without deleting the last ones then the iPad will not see the most recent photos.
However, my iPhone 6 (running iOS 11.4.1) works great, and can see all the photos. Hopefully the folks at Apple will see this soon and rectify it. Otherwise its well made not too bulky.

Doesn't work. It can handle 7 RAW files from Fuji then crashes.

    • Written by Kenneth O from Glasgow

Got this for on the go editing so I could travel light with ipad only. Watched some youtube vids of people loading on the go. I tried it with SDHC and SDXC cards and same thing - plug it in photos pops up, select import, it starts loading thumbnails, gets to number 8 and crashes. EVERYTIME. I have had to go back to the USB adapter with camera plugged in with cable. So slooooooww.... Apple, please fix this!

As of today, I’m not having issues but still could as I haven’t tried somethings . Wouldn’t import and pixeled photos, a few things I tried when I thought it wasn’t working right are...I plugged it in my phone and when viewing my photos they were all pixel and distorted. Fix.. I took out the card reader from iPad and the SD card and noticed the little SD printed on cable was not on top so I turned cable around with card picture ( little grey SD card that’s showing way to insert) was facing up and plugged in adapter and then my SD card..and than picture were clear and it imported in couple seconds into my iPhone the selected photos. Enlarging the thumbnail is tricky but you can do it. A real pain to make it work this way ..fix..use your two fingers and swipe outward like you do on some things to enlarge. If your fingers are big than might not be so easy. It would lead you to believe they can’t be enlarged, just have to fight with the friggen thumbnail.
My husband has the Pro and imported in a flash from His Nikon.
Haven’t went past this point yet but hoping I’m not gonna suffer the painful experience most have here.

This is a SD Card downloader in RAW format...all the negative reviews are from people who don't know how to use it. All you do is plug the SD card in, plug the adapter to your phone and the RAW files download to your phone. If you don't know how to process RAW files on your phone, this product is not for you..please refrain from negative comments as it works perfectly for what it is intended to do

should be more easy to transfer

    • Written by Adam K from Westlock

This device gets bad reviews due to poor description of accessory. Please should explain the abilities of accessories better for their customers.

This device can only read one way, read sd card onto the apple device, for easy import or viewing of pictures.

The real issue with this device is that, it can only read pictures that are placed in DCIM folder, otherwise you see nothing on screen.

You could try to make up a folder with DCIM labeled name, but may not work.

This device likes to see, DCIM folder made by digital camera, trail camera, or some device that will automatically create the folder for you on the sd card, while saving the pictures that are captured from that device into the folder.

So tricking it by naming the folder DCIM may not resolve the issue.

Therefore, this device is only good to retrieve photos from digital camera or trail cam for ease of access in remote situations where you have no computer available, otherwise use a computer to read the sd card files or use your apple cable to read files from computer, etc.

If this is a privacy or security issue, Apple stop being so protective.

I bought a generic version of this and it was junk. This device is designed to import comparable photos and video into the photo app on your iOS device. It will NOT export photos. It will not photos tor video in formats that are incompatible with iOS. I use it for getting photos off my camera when I travel and it’s worked 100% of the time. It will NOT save any photos I take in a raw format because iOS can not process them. It works great for importing video I take in a mp4 format but it cannot import any proprietary format video

I'm not sure what the heck all of you whiners are doing, but I plugged this into my iPhone X, my iPad Pro 10.5, and my 2nd Gen iPad Pro 12.9... and it worked perfectly. I popped my SD card in and the Photos app popped up on all 3 devices asking to import both my RAW and JPEG shots.

Anyone that is expecting this to be able to offload data from an Apple device is misinformed. This is for viewing and importing ONLY. It is not a way to save space. Don't hope/expect it will do that. It won't. Besides, ya'll should know better by now.
