Avoid upgrading to iPad OS 13 if use this. Otherwise good. APPLE FIX BUG.

    • Written by Paul H from ossett

I upgraded to Ipad OS 13.

Not only doesn't this work in Ipad OS 13 (and seemingly IOS13) but upon inserting it, it totally locks the lightning port so it will then not even connect to a charger or a computer until reset.

I need the card reader for importing 4k video for editing, so the fact it doesn't work with the new OS is a disaster.

BUT this is beta software, but its public beta so that should be sorted.

Apple please fix this major bug ASAP. I had a heck of a job rolling back my software to 12.

I’m amazed this is so bad!

    • Written by Peter R from Halifax

I have been a loyal apple user since iPhone 3GS days. I’m on my 4th iPad and my 4th iPhone. It seems inconceivable that such a major world class company could release such a pile of dross as this device is. I can generally accept in sufferance the Apple quirks and limitations as a trade off for ease of use etc. However, this device stoops to beneath the level of cheap No brand eBay stuff. The functionality is so incredibly limiting. There are so many things it really should do but doesn’t. It’s all been said before on here so I won’t repeat.

It loosely worked on my previous IPad Air, though I’ve now upgraded to iPad Pro 10.5. With ios12xx. I’ve given up trying to get it to import anything from several different SD cards. It opens up the photos app but nothing more. Cannot see or import anything. Utterly useless and I wish I’d never bought it. To cap it all, it really isn’t cheap either!

I can’t help but think this company is in serious decline since the sad loss of Mr Jobbs. They seem to have lost the plot somewhat. I would migrate to Android but for the fact I simply can’t tolerate the way it works at all.

    Absolute junk.

    • Written by James S from Stamford

I've only just bought my iPad pro and card reader purely for editing video and photos on lumafusion and affinity.
At first the iPad displayed nothing with reader plugged in, tried everything to get it to work but nothing helped. I then submitted a returns notice as I really didn't expect to pay £800 for something so useless. Thought I'd give it one more go before I sent it back, nothing was different but it worked perfectly, brilliant I thought. Transferred raw images from camera fine along with some 4k clips from mavic. Went away on holiday took probably 10 short videos and maybe 15 photos, plug it into the sd card reader and it displays half the thumbnails followed by grey boxes with file type written in, I've clicked on the ones that are displaying thumbnails, selected import and it does it instantly, only to find an empty grey box in photos library that does absolutely nothing!? Absolutely useless waste of time. I'm hoping to return both iPad and reader as this is a real deal breaker.
    Not impressed.

    • Written by Ricardo José D from São Gonçalo

I used the Apple iPad Camera Connection Kit with the Lightning to 30-pin Adapter on my devices with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 7, but today it stopped working on my iPhone with iOS 11.2.5, but it still works on iPhone SE with iOS 10.3.3, why did apple take this function?

    Does not import all images

    • Written by Marke K from Ottawa

For some reason that escapes me the card reader "misses" 1-3% of the images in any given import. I've tested this with various cards (all formatted in camera), various sets of images and two different readers. Typically if I attempt to import 300 raw images anywhere from 3-6 images are skipped even though all images are in the same folder on the card and named by the camera in the same way. I've spent hours identifying and examining the skipped images and there is nothing unique about them in terms of the way they are named, their size or their exif data to suggest why they would not be imported like the rest. Three out of 300 images might not sound like much but this is meant as a backup solution and even if they aren't "keepers" I want to be the one to decide that not Apple's messed up card reader!

I got the reader with the idea of getting an ipad pro to use for mobile photo backup and editing but if it can't work on an iphone 7 plus or the ipad Air that I've used for testing then there's no point.

Again, it might seem trivial to base such a decision on a simple dongle but it's the weak link in the chain and for me, with that chain broken I'm leaving the Apple ecosystem entirely. I'll likely go with a surface pro for my mobile backup needs and if I'm going that route I don't see much point in replacing my aging iMac with a new Apple machine. The ipad pro could be a fabulous tool for photography but not if you can't reliably get images in to it. and don't even get me started on the torture that is getting images back out. Goodbye Apple.

No longer works, can't supply enough power (software?)

This product should be recalled or a trade-in program should exist... it certainly should no longer be sold as it does not work!

Left the store and it didn't work

    • Written by Emilie C from Halifax

purchased a new iphone today and this along with it. was instructed by the employee that it would work and when I got home and tried it nothing happened. I spoke with apple support online and they at first told me it's not compatible with an iPhone. I had to read them the description online to show it says it should work. all they told me to do was bring it back and make them test it in store or return it. unhappy with my overall experience.

Does not work after iOS 13 Upgrade!!

    • Written by Stephen C from PARIS

    I upgraded to iOS 13.

When inserting it, it does not show the "import" tab from the app Photos.
I need the card reader for, working on my professionals pictures, importing 4K video for editing, so the fact it doesn't work with the new OS is a disaster.
When I read all the complaints about this adapter, it's always after an upgrade; Apple can you please explain us what is the workaround to make this expensive adapter work after an upgrade?
    Thnx

    Doesn't work. $30 wasted

    • Written by Steve K from New Bern

Bought Apple's Lightning to SD Card Camera Reader today for a trip I'm starting in three days. Plugged it in with an SD card with one JPEG from my Canon, it shows up on the screen of my iPad Pro (IOS 12.3.1), lets me choose it to import, then does nothing except give me "1 Item Remaining" and offering me to "Stop Import."

    • Written by Gene S from Albuquerque

Purchased at Best buy... should have done more research... Just purchased IPad Pro 2 weeks ago and assumed since i was to I’d be able to upload videos and pics could be imported with a lightning to card reader adapted fo apple... NOPE... the techs spend almost 2 hours and opened several new units to get them to read and nothing doing ... refund for bad product ...believe it is the Operating system that’s flawed.

    Iphone XS max crashes

Brand new SD card reader, my iphone XS max crashes when used and my ipad Pro won’t find anything.
Please fix, it seems that I am not the only one. A shame that this product is being sold in the first place if it crashes an apple device... words can not express my dissapointment.

    This product... is utterly terrible

    • Written by Nathalie R from Mississauga

There are no words to describe how horrible this product is, but I'll try my best. I bought this product in hopes not hot having to bring my laptop with me on vacation-- i would bring my phone, action camera and this SD Card Camera Reader. I purchased it for $39 (too much money...) went home, and tried it out. The product merely opens the Photos app for me and thats all it does. Doesn't transfer files, at all. I looked at the reviews here and saw how one guy suggested renaming the files, that didn't work either! This product is absolute garbage and a waste of money all together. I doesn't even work with micro sd cards and the adapters.

Overpriced device that has extremely limited functionality

    • Written by Matthys V from brisbane

Literally the only use for this 45$ piece of technology is for the photos app to create tiny thumbnails which you can import. There is no way of viewing photos, videos or files on the screen card without importing them first. There is no way to sort through the files on your sd card before import with anything more than 1cm thumbnails. The iPad is marketed as a photo processing device but falls laughably short. Due to apples strategic software decision to limit the functionality of these devices they purposefully handicap the processing power of a 1100$ iPad. Absolutely infuriating.

Got this for on the go editing so I could travel light with ipad only. Watched some youtube vids of people loading on the go. I tried it with SDHC and SDXC cards and same thing - plug it in photos pops up, select import, it starts loading thumbnails, gets to number 8 and crashes. EVERYTIME. I have had to go back to the USB adapter with camera plugged in with cable. So slooooooww.... Apple, please fix this!

    DO NOT BUY

    • Written by Matthew B from Mentor

Just like all of the other reviews, the reader is either slow or just isn't detected by the iPhone. I have an iPhone 6, and i tried multiple ways of connecting the cable to the phone and card into the reader. My phone simply doesn't detect it. No import option appears. Such a disappointment. DO NOT BUY. Most of the reviews that say it works are from previous IOS updates. THIS DOES NOT WORK WITH RECENT IOS.
