Doesn't charge iPhone with a case

    • Written by Mitchell R from Chicago

I recently purchased three of the docks and will be returning them ASAP.

I cannot even use them with my iPhone 10 XS in its case. And I'm not going to repeatedly remove a case simply to charge my phone on this dock...

    Skin-Deep

    • Written by Robert B from Plymouth

I love the look of this thing but its beauty is only skin-deep. With no other physical support, the lightening port supports the entire weight of the phone. At just a few months old, my phone rarely will charge on it unless it's in the perfect position. Even then, vibrations will cause it to start or stop charging. Pretty irritating to wake up and see your phone stopped charging sometime during the night and you're at 7%. I'm not sure if it's now damaged my lightening port or the lightening adapter on the base is going bad. A serious disappointment for the $49 price tag. My next review will be on Apple's support as I'm going to take this in to see what they have to say.

    Hate it...

    • Written by Ponni V from Tampa

I was a huge fan of apple and now I am losing interest in apple products.

First Big disappointment - iPhone 7. When they remove one basic feature (Headphone jack), how would they not think easy alternate plans? This is ridiculous.

Next disappointment - This Dock. After researching I bought this dock and was happy initially that I can hear music and charge at the same time. Just after 3 - 4 weeks, this dock started to give troubles. I couldn't hear properly, Volume is too low. Not charging properly. It was very frustrating and irritating after spending money on both iPhone and this dock. Very upset with the products.

Apple need to think about it.

    Faulty connection, common problem

    • Written by Charles L from London

Having major connection problems. Often won't sync to my iMac when in the dock, and often won't charge, or will disconnect and reconnect constantly and give me that annoying 'ding!' noise over and over and overrrrrr. For 2 mins.

As soon as I take the dock off and use the cable connection it's fine. I've tried cleaning the dock. Other reviews say it seems to happen a lot.

    Rubbish

    • Written by David K from The Gap

Doesn't charge. Well, it's too wobbly/loose to make any electrical connection for an extended period. If you fiddle with it for a good while while, you can get it to go - that is, until a butterfly is within a 100m radius and then the additional airflow is just too much for this POS dock and it stops charging. Doesn't deserve even 1 star. Taking it back.

Dock Loosened My Lightning Port on Phone

    • Written by Nathaniel T from Glen Allen

This a beautiful looking, solid feeling, and aesthetically pleasing dock, but it has some major design flaws that will actually loosen your lightning port/connector over time (it did for my phone anyway). Most of the reviews on here for this dock I'm guessing were filled out immediately after using the dock as a first impression and were NOT filled out after a couple months of use. Usually Apple makes well designed hardware that works nearly flawlessly, but this dock has actually ruined my lightning port/connector of my iPhone 6 due to the horizontal wiggling/looseness of the way this dock was designed to be used with Apple designed phone cases. The way Apple designed this dock was so the consumer could use the dock with one of Apple's iPhone cases on their phone, but this resulted in a non-tight/loose fitting lightning connector/plug going into one's phone. If one uses the phone at all (even lightly touching their screen - especially on the top 1/3 of your phone) while the phone is docked then your phone will lose connection with the dock's lightning port/plug due to the horizontal play that the dock has with the phone (resulting in side to side wiggling). This loose connection over time will break down one's lightning port on their phone so whenever you plug in your phone to another charger (without the dock) it will be loose and wiggle resulting in your phone not being fully connected and charging properly. My wife has an iPhone 6, hasn't used the dock on her phone, and her lightning port plugs in solidly as it should (when plugged in directly to a lightning plug) without any wiggle movement and you hear a click, my phone however no longer clicks when you plug a lightning plug into it and the lightning port is now loose. Luckily I bought Apple Care for my phone and I will be asking Apple to fix my phone and fully refund the purchase of this dock that ruined my phone's lightning port connection.

    good idea, but not ideal...

    • Written by pierre D from bournemouth

For those wanting to plug it in and still use the phone screen whilst plugged in, think again..

Its very flimsy when plugged in and trying to type, as the iPhone 6 is too tall, and you are only relying on the lightning connector to HOLD the phone...

I am getting through it, but have to be sooooo careful whilst typing...

So not worth the "apple price tag" as per usual...

    Really dissapointed!

    • Written by Thierry F from Goatstown

Just bought one of these docking station for my wife so she could charge her phone from a bedside table and use her charger elsewhere, but I just out that this docking station does not come with a either a cable or a plug! €60 for a stand is just ridiculous!!! I don't care how "designer" it looks as a docking station coming without a power cable & plug is not a docking station! It's a stand!! As it "stands" (no punt intended!), it is a useless unless stand unless you caught up more money for a plug & cable! Talking about creaming the cow Apple! Shame on you!

Does not work with all cases-poor design

    • Written by Donna T from Lynn

I bought the dock along with an Apple silicone case. All was well. When I decided to change cases, the problems began. The charging pin is not designed to work with all cases. As a result, 2 months later, I have a $50 paperweight, unless I want to take the case off everytime. Kind of defeats the purpose, eh, Apple?

The look of the thing is fantastic but the practicality is not.

    Fail, Apple.

    Really dissapointing

    • Written by Ashley D from Rotherham

I picked up my new iPhone 6s Plus Friday 9th October, thought I would buy the dock to go with it what with matching colour and the stylish design would look brilliant on my bedside table, not going to lie looks great however looks are about as good as it gets charged fine Friday night perfectly fine Saturday night come Sunday night nothing will not charge my phone no matter what I do, the fact that the phone wobbles more than a bobble head isn't very comforting, however I've now got a very stylish £39 ornament that will not work properly, I can only guess something inside isn't connected right and that the weight of my phone disconnects the wiring as my smaller iPhone 5 does charge but it also fits perfectly no wobble no nothing can't help but think this wasn't designed with the 6/6s plus in mind and was purely made in the hope that with it being apple a new item and a good looking price of kit people will buy it, I will be taking this back to apple tomorrow and I won't be buying another. Getting fed up of them bringing new phones out and neglecting the things we are more bothered about and that's cables that don't wear turtle necks after 6 months use and a 'all new' docking method that is utterly useless. I love apple as a brand and I love their products but this not working has really wound me up. Save the money buy a 2 meter charging cable and have money to spare

    Poorly thought through; essentially useless

    • Written by Alistair T from Perth

I thought this might be Apple's response to wireless charging. Unfortunately it's just another substandard, overpriced accessory that won't provide you with any commensurate benefit. The phone cannot be undocked one handed. It provides no benefit for disconnecting your phone quickly and easily. Secondly, your phone isn't supported by anything save the lightning bolt connector, which i find is precarious at best. It wobbles a bit and places your device at unnecessary risk of being knocked over.

My life would be unchanged and I would be $75 richer had I not purchased this item.

    What is it for?

    • Written by Bryce B from East Molesey

You are probably reading this hoping that I would have the answer to the question of why you would buy one. I bought this thinking that for some reason it would be a useful addition to my new iPhone. However, my conclusion is that its trying to solve a problem that does not exist - well the problem doesn't seem to exist in my life.

The only benefit I've seen is that the plug of my phone charger is below my desk, so when I unplugged the phone, the cable would sometimes slide off the desk and fall to the floor. This accessory stops that from happening...

    Style over substance!

    • Written by Stuart R from Troon

This is an excellent quality product; it feels substantial (for a small item) and well made.

That, sadly, is as far as it goes ....

The design is really disappointing with the entire weight of any attached device resting on the lightning connector. With my iPhone 6 connected, I dare not press on the home button hard enough to wake the phone to read my thumb print, without feeling the need to use my other hand to support the phone. Add to this the fact that the silicone base, which is obviously meant to prevent slip, quickly picked up dust and started to slip on any slightly shiny surface with even the slightest amount of applied pressure.

Additionally, because of the curved nature of the mount for the lightning connector, any device feels unsteady, with unacceptable side to side (as well as front to back) movement possible.

As I'm about to upgrade to an iPhone 6S Plus, with it's weight gain over my iPhone 6, I feel this will only further accentuate the unsteadiness. Sadly I have had to return this item as I feel it is unfit for purpose.
