Is it five stars or zero stars?

    • Written by Rob W from Clapham

Contrary to just about every review on this site, my headphone adaptor is fine. It's been with me for 3-4 months and hasn't broken. I play my music through a set of Bose QC20's and it sounds great. I've also played them through £200-£300 wired headphones and they still sounds great, so I'm unclear what the issue with the sound quality really is.

The headphone adaptor gets used daily on the train, stuffed in my bag and I take absolutely no care over it at all and it still works well.

So from a music and quality point of view, it's five stars.

However from the view of actually even needing it, zero stars. I hate the fact I need it, I hate the fact that Apple has made a unilateral decision to remove the headphone jack and think it one of their more stupid decisions. Its another something to carry round, break or get lost.

So from a utility point of view, it's zero stars.

It's not that expensive and it does have a great DAC inside it so I've settled on three stars.

    An absolute POS

    • Written by Michael P from St.George

Bought one about a month ago. It mostly sat in my car when I want to use my aux to play music. Removed from my car for the first time to use at the gym hoping I would not have to buy those ridiculous AirPods. The wire stripped from the end piece with no resistance at all. Yes, the 3.5mm jack needs to be replaced. But when legacy ports were being phased out there was something better available. This is not that something better. Apple, you fell flat on your face when you designed this fragile garbage. I almost want to switch to Android where I don't have to worry about such moronic flaws.

    Very Poor Design

    • Written by Shana B from Fort Sumner

I had one of these included when I first got my phone. It worked fine for the first few days, but about a week later, a short formed in the wire. These are very poorly designed when you compare them to other adaptors that Apple has made. Surprised and disappointed by the oversight. Would not recommend this product.

I just bought this a month ago and it already broke. I didn’t do nothing wrong to it. This breaks easily which is why it’s trash.

When will you do a new iPhone without this adapter???

    • Written by Vanessa L from Geneve

    I hate this adapter:
    — you can easily lose it! I can see why that is interesting for Apple but NOT for the customer’s experience
    — you can’t do anything with your iPhone without it, for example connect to a jack
    — when you connect your phone to a jack, sound and connection are not good/ very bad
    — you can’t talk with your earphones and charge your phone at the same time

So much frustration linked with this thing. I’ve always loved iPhones and apple for the ease-of-use of its products. But this is the contrary of simplicity. It adds a useless extra-step.
Totally not in line with Apple’s core values.

Huge disappointment and it looks like i’m not alone.

Please innovate! (With customer’ Experience in mind)

    Flimsy, breaks often

This is incredibly flimsy. Three of these dongles have stopped functioning from normal wear and tear in the past year. Truly a poorly designed product.

    Infuriating and unnecessary

    • Written by Rudi H from London

I wish there was a zero stars option. Please bring back the 3.5m jack - a standard in place for decades. Not only is it infuriating to head out the house with my headphones to discover that this stupid dongle has been forgotten behind, it keeps on breaking. I've just bought my fourth new Apple made one and plugging it in I get the helpful message "this accessory is not supported". If you think any of your customers want this idiotic dongle I can assure you that you are wrong. This is transparently just a way to sell more wireless headphones which we do not need. It’s wasteful, and rubbish like this is polluting the planet - great work Apple product designers! Listen to your customers and give us a standard headphone plug. This low quality, pointless and customer unfriendly dongle will ultimately force me to stop buying Apple phones.

    Breaks Easily

    • Written by Brittany M from Los Angeles

Had for a few months and worked great, didn't have any issues with audio. Recently, my phone fell out of my hands while I was listening to headphones with the adapter and the metal part on the lightning end came off of the adapter and was stuck inside my phone (lightning port). The fall was from about 3 ft off the ground.

    Not durable, surprising for Apple

    Treat them like toilet paper

    • Written by Alex M from Danville

These are garbage. I've gone through four in less than a year, and I work at a desk most of the time and don't even use the adapter when I exercise (my headphones plug directly into a smaller audio device, instead of my phone). The fact that Apple thinks they're worth $9.99, and that they have the hubris to think they were BRAVE for getting rid of the aux jack in the first place, and that they failed to design something that should be so simple and durable, is incredibly frustrating and has convinced me to replace my iPhone 8 with a product from a different company. Good riddance to Apple and their arrogant, design-over-substance dogma.

Absolute garbage quality too easy to break cheaply made profit driven move

    • Written by William D from nashville

What happened to Apple? if you're going to remove viable ports and give lame excuses for doing so at least build a freaking dongle cable that we are all going to be forced to carry that will last longer than one month. This is absolutely my last Apple product that I will ever buy, the quality is subpar, the technology is outdated, and every single move Apple makes these days is to put more money in their pockets and forget their users. This is such a huge massive disservice two users. We carry dongles in the 90s, nobody wants to have to deal with low quality little cables that break at $10 a pop. We expect more from Apple

Poorly thought out and executed. A necessary evil.

    • Written by Nick M from Stoke Sub Hamdon

Quality is very low - the cable used is unlikely to last any real long term use. I wouldn’t use this with my phone in my pocket for fear of breaking the cable. A lot of noise is introduced to the sound of my headphones and is noticeable even when the volume is turned up. It does work, but at £9.99 a go, it should be far better than it is. Surely the highest cost to price markup in the Apple range of products. Disappointed this wouldn’t be included with a near £850 iPhone.

Unnecessary deprecation of all decent headphones

    • Written by Max C from London

Appalled that this is even necessary. Decent headphones need a headphone jack receptor, the iPhone is no longer compatible with decent headphones. Terrible decision from Apple.

Honestly I would give this zero stars. Ive tried so many of these and they’re terrible. There’s constant static or it just cuts out constantly. I miss my old phone simply for the headphone jack. Is this Apples way of making everyone purchase AirPods??? I don’t want them. I have headphones I like. Now I can’t even listen to music in my car without an aux cord. I don’t want to have to wear wireless headphones while driving in my car. If you’re thinking of upgrading your phone and you use a headphone jack keep this in mind. It’s a huge inconvenience for me since these adapters don’t work.
