I’ve been a loyal customer to Apple for a very long time. I’ve stuck with iPhones for years and I never had any significant issues until the headphone jack was removed. As of now, I’ve bought over four dongle/jack adapters and none of them lasted over three months. They’re fragile and low-quality. At the end of the adapter’s lifespan, my music will randomly pause or change songs with if I make any movement—that’s how weak the adapter is. Eventually, I can only hear music out of one side of my headphones. Three of my adapters are at this stage.

I listen to music so often and it’s involved in almost all my daily activities, so this is incredibly frustrating. I’ve been considering switching phones to another smartphone brand that’s more consumer-friendly because of this stupid dongle. So, is this a great product and would I recommend it? Absolutely not.

These are so cheaply made, I have an older pair of beats mixrs (from before they were owned by apple) that I absolutely love, only probably is the a a 3mm audio jack. I sucked it up and used the dongle for quite some time now but it would randomly stop working for minutes to weeks. I think it finally broke completely even though it looks brand new, I never let it near water, ever leave it on the ground, there is no reason for it to have broken, I’m disappointed

The last one I have broke in less than a month and is my third connector in a year. Most disappointing piece of Apple product. It’s a small piece but quality still matters.

    Not up to Apple's standards

    • Written by Vince L from Mount Prospect

Laughable how long these last before issues start to arrise. These are definitely made cheap and do not last very long. I've gone through 3 apple-certifed lightning adapters, one out-of-box with my iphone 8 and two purchased from the Apple Store. The connectors bend easily and connectivity starts to fail within 5-6 months. Phantom buttons start to be hit as well - My last adapter liked to pause and unpause any kind of media just with my phone sitting on my desk! Sad!

Works - most of the time

    • Written by Hilary W from San Francisco

This mostly works but is super sensitive to getting bumped. If I'm walking and listening to music it will randomly stop working and I have unplug and replug in to get my phone to register the headphones. Disappointing that apple has put so little quality into their connector products.

    Works perfectly fine

    • Written by William M from Clinton

I don't understand the overwhelming number of negative reviews. I bought a couple of these when I received my iPhone XR late last October, and they have worked fine. Granted, I typically leave them attached to their headphones and do a minimal amount of disconnecting and connecting to another mp3 cable.

I'm about to order a third.

This product shouldn't need to exist.

    • Written by Lisa C from Vancouver

Only got this product because the 3.5mm port on my iPhone no longer works. It is a frustrating piece of equipment. I use my headphones for both my laptop and my phone: There is no logical place to store this adapter.
Option 1: Dangling out the bottom of my phone - yeah, not happening.
Option 2: Attached to my headphones - but then where does it go when I am using my headphones on my laptop?
I can see from other reviews it's fragile and here I am with no place to put it.
Would have got wireless airpods but frankly $260 is ridiculous. Faced with the choice of a $10 annoying gadget, or a $260 gadget that requires charging. Where is the middle ground, Apple?

    Almost useless

My iPhone 7 is 2ish years old. This is my 5th adaptor/dongle. Like other reviewers, it works for a short time and one side goes out then the whole things dies in a very short time. Frustrating and infuriating piece of junk that you have no choice but to buy.

    Piece of junk! Continually malfunctions

    • Written by Henry A from London

So apple decide to reinvent a standardized piece of technology that has resulted in the headphone needing this horrendous little piece of kit for them to work. You would nearly just about allow it if the thing actually work. But, like much of what apple has attempted outside of the iPhone / Mac - its a dismal failure. First one broke withing 6 months of purchase. The second one broke again after replacement. Now, out of warranty, I am expected to fork out £15 every time this thing doesn't do what its meant to do? Pity 0 starts isn't an option.

    Genuinely disastrous product quality

    • Written by Daniel E from London

My second adapter has just started to break down on me. More fool me for buying another one after the first failed me completely. It is thoroughly unreasonable for a small adaptor like this to be rendered entirely useless after three months of very careful use. Very disappointing. I wonder if the quality of this product is designed to help drive people towards buying a pair of wireless headphones to replace the perfectly good quality ones they already have? I will be buying my third adaptor elsewhere.

As most of the reviews would concur, this product is cheaply made however, I appreciate the low price since I probably buy one every couple months. It's nice to not spend a lot of money for a very easily breakable product.

    Useless Adapter

    • Written by Terry G from Adelaide

The iphone headphone is useless. Renders the use of any decent headphones unbearable due to constant clicking noise. Tried multiple expensive headphones and same result. Sure, it works fine with the headphones supplied, but who wants to use that rubbish. A good reason to change phone suppliers. Can't believe that Apple are this cheap, that they stoop to this level. We miss you Steve Jobs... I doubt he would do something like this.

    • Written by Rachel M from London

Keep having to re-buy these incredibly overpriced adaptors, as they keep warping and breaking. What a dreadful, dystopian rip-off. Really making me consider giving up on iPhones.

    • Written by Neil L from Upminster

Mine broke within cpl of weeks even when first used it had a crackling hissing sounds so disturbed the music. Then songs kept cutting out. Can’t be in pocket whilst walking or jogging for example as distorted and cuts out. Annoying that one is needed at all but what can you do. Go on my exercise bike and connect to Alexa
