  • That depends on how you pay for your new iPhone.

Once we receive your trade-in device and confirm that the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do.

If you pay monthly with PayBright, we’ll apply the value as an instant credit to lower the monthly payments of your new device. If you pay in full, we’ll credit your payment method after we receive your trade-in.

If we provide a revised trade-in value based on the condition of your old iPhone, we’ll work with you to confirm that you still want to move forward with the trade-in.

  • Yes. When you buy your new iPhone online or in a store, you can trade in an eligible iPhone and get credit applied to your purchase.* You can also get an Apple Store Gift Card online or at an Apple Store when you trade in any eligible smartphone with Apple Trade In. In either case, if your smartphone or iPhone is not eligible for credit, we’ll recycle it for free. No matter the model or condition, we can turn it into something good for you and good for the planet.
  • Whether you’re making a purchase or not, we’ve made it easy to trade in an eligible smartphone either in a store or online. Just answer a few questions regarding the model and condition, and we’ll provide an estimated trade-in value or a simple way to recycle it.

If you trade in online, we’ll apply your estimated trade-in value to the purchase of your new iPhone. Then we’ll arrange for you to send us your eligible smartphone. Once we’ve received it, we’ll inspect it and verify its condition. If the condition matches what you described, there’s nothing more you need to do. If the condition doesn’t match, a new trade-in value will be provided.

You’ll have the option to either accept this revised value or reject it. We’ll work with you to confirm that you still want to move forwards with the trade‑in.

If you accept the trade-in estimate in the store, we’ll give you instant credit towards your iPhone purchase.

And if you choose to recycle your smartphone, we’ll either handle it in the store or provide a prepaid shipping label so you can send your device to our accredited recycling partner.

  • Generally it takes 2–3 weeks. But the sooner you send us your device, the sooner we can verify its condition and process your trade-in.

Recycling a device is much faster. When we email you a prepaid shipping label, just send your device to our recycling partner.

  • If you want to purchase a new iPhone by financing it through your carrier, and also want to add a trade-in to lower the cost, you’ll have to visit an Apple Store in person. A Specialist will help you select, purchase and activate your new iPhone. They’ll explain how Apple Trade In works. Be sure to back up your trade-in device before you bring it to an Apple Store.
  • Taxes will be charged based on the full price of your new device. If you pay monthly with PayBright, we’ll apply the value as an instant credit to lower the monthly payments of your new device. If you pay in full, we’ll credit your payment method after we receive your trade-in.
  • When getting your old device ready to send in, please refer to instructions for how to turn off Find My on your device. The team inspecting your device must be able to turn it on and remove the passcode. Once your device is inspected, the trade-in value is verified and we can finalize your refund.
