LaCie 48TB 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2 Series
LaCie 48TB 8big Rack Thunderbolt 2 Series
Featuring Thunderbolt 2 speeds of up to 1330 MB/s, the LaCie 48TB 8big Rack is the ultimate in storage for 4K workflows. For this device, LaCie harnessed the breakthrough performance potential of Thunderbolt 2, squeezing the absolute best speeds out the hard disks. Add a hardware RAID controller and 7200 RPM disks and the result is incredible, sustained speeds that turbocharge 4K workflows, file transfers or backups.
With this kind of speed, videographers can work directly from RAW files in Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere, get maximum quality from footage and see edits in real time, without having to convert footage to a lower resolution.
With full component redundancy, the LaCie 8big Rack gives professionals superb reliability and data security. Hardware RAID 5/6 provides security against disk failure and data loss, without compromising on transfer speeds.
The 8big Rack's innovative cooling system prolongs component lifespan, featuring three efficient, thermo-regulated cooling fans to drive airflow. The device's industrial design demolishes the status quo for rack storage, with a focus on usability for professionals.
Thanks to dual Thunderbolt 2 ports, you can daisy-chain up to six devices to a computer via a single cable. Compared with Fibre Channel solutions, the LaCie 8big Rack delivers outstanding scalability in half the space, a much simpler setup, and unprecedented performance.
With Thunderbolt 2 now built into the new Mac Pro and MacBook Pro with Retina display, you can connect up to three 4K displays at once. Thunderbolt 2 gives you up to 20 Gbps in both directions, allowing for super-fast data transfer between peripherals. You also have enough bandwidth to daisy-chain multiple high-speed devices without using a hub or switch.
Thunderbolt also provides double the power of USB 3.0, delivering 10 watts to peripherals for improved performance on the go.

At 18.9" x 1.7" x 30.4", 33lbs without any drives installed, and 44lbs with 8 drives, you would be better off buying a portable drive with a thunderbolt connection for day to day use. There are units out there such as the Pegasus series that may not have the exact same capacity (32TB for $4599USD as an example) but may be more suited to a pro/prosumer environment that may not have a server rack to install into.
