  • Overview

Twelve South's vintage leather BookBook for iPhone 6/6s beautifully combines a wallet case, hands-free stand and removable shell. Convenient pockets store your ID, cards and cash. And BookBook also folds into a display stand for hands-free FaceTime chats and watching videos. Plus it gives you the ease of a removable shell to protect your iPhone 6 in or out of BookBook.

    Hand-distressed, genuine leather wallet

The wallet portion of this high-quality leather case has five pockets, including slots to hold your bank cards. There’s a handy window pocket that lets you flash your ID when needed. You also have a full-size pocket for cash, receipts or magnetic security cards.

    A thin shell case, too

Inside BookBook, your iPhone snaps into a slim, soft-touch shell. With a quick slide to the left, the shell lifts completely out — so you can leave your wallet in a locker and take your phone to the treadmill, or wherever you like. Carry your iPhone wallet combo when you need it, or just your shell-covered iPhone when you don’t.

    Built-in hands-free viewing stand

BookBook functions as a viewing stand, as well as a case, so you can use it for hands-free FaceTime calls, watching HD movies or sharing videos with friends. You can even prop up the BookBook stand and use the self timer in iOS 8 to take group photos.

Nowhere near the quality of the old bookbooks made for iPhone 4 and 5.

This year, as you know, the I've been a loyal user of bookbook now for a couple of generations of iPhones. Every year, I get a new iPhone and a new bookbook. This year, as you know, the iPhone came out before the bookbook was ready. I ordered the day before release, on 12/11/14. I received a new 6+ bookbook and it looked good, but now three months later, it's falling apart. All the vinyl edges have worn away to expose the cardboard inside. And where the cards go, is way different than the previous bookbooks. It's thinner and cheaper feeling. All the threads constantly fray, and the card constantly fall out of the slots when you turn the bookbook upside down. With my previous bookbooks, I seemed to be able to last a year until I got my new iPhone, and even then, while the leather was aged and scuffed, the bookbook construction felt rugged and could still be used, but the latest one is not the same level of quality that you guys used to have. Just wanted to pass this on. I feel that I will not be purchasing a new bookbook for my iPhone 6+S this fall, and I will probably be going back to a traditional phone case and wallet fairly soon as the bookbook that I have now looks like it's about to fall apart as well as it's a miracle that I haven't dropped my atm/credit cards yet.

The case frequently flips the mute switch on the side of the phone to the vibrate only position while the phone is in my pocket. Not a huge problem, but a problem none the less. The protective layer of silicone on the removable shell has already worn off on the edges. Again not a huge problem, just speaks to the cheap construction of the case/wallet. The case feels thinner and more loose than the last iteration, particularly in the card slot/ID window section. While the removable shell is a nice idea, it can be quite difficult to remove completely at times as the set up is much more suited for the stand feature. The overall fit and finish of the case leaves something to be desired (i.e. loose stitching in areas and bunched up suede around the plastic holders for the shell. I had the bookbook for iPhone 5s and it was great...for about a year. The problem with that model was that the inside leather was not all one piece and so it came apart all around the phone holder after about a year of steady use. Twelve South eliminated that problem by creating a removable shell for the phone and keeping the inside suede all one piece. While I don't see longevity being a factor with this case, there are some areas that could certainly be improved upon. But I guess they have to save money wherever they can. I'll think twice about buying another one.

It's also very convenient to be able to remove the thin rubber shell from the outer leather case. I love the appearance and the way it feels in my hand. I did notice that the decorative spine of the "book" does not seem to be real leather (as the rest of the jacket is), I would guess it's some sort of "PU leather", but you have to examine it very closely to tell the difference. Overall, I'm very happy with my new case.

The Bookbook looks compl As a book collector and bibliophile, I LOVE the idea of this case! However, the actual design and execution leave a lot to be desired. The Bookbook looks completely fake because the designers didn't bother to find out how an old, leather-bound book actually looks! The rest of this review is directed to Twelve South (are you reading this?): You should take a look at a real traditional leather-bound book and then do a re-design. First of all, the spine and the covers should be one piece of leather, NOT separate pieces stitched together! And while we're on the subject of stitching, I know your designers thought that stitching on the edges of the covers would dress the case up, but the look is completely stupid, since old books aren't constructed that way. Also, in general the spine and covers should not be different colors (again, since they are made of one piece of leather). And here's another tip: because of their construction, the spines of old leather-bound books are somewhat rounded; it would be easy to re-create that look, and it would be so much more attractive than a flat spine that looks so fake. Finally, in the picture of the back cover on Apple's website, it looks like a large number "12" is stamped in the lower left corner. Why? What's that all about? OK, now I'm going to be picky :-) So — "Bookbook"?! Really? Couldn't come up with anything better? My three-year-old named her goldfish "Goldy" but I expect better from grownups. Actually, I wouldn't care what you called it, except that the name is stamped on the spine for all to see. Hire someone to come up with a clever name that won't look idiotic on the spine. Better yet — provide a more expensive version of the case where the purchaser could specify what they want stamped on the spine (limited to something like 10 characters, of course). I know that lots of book lovers would jump at the chance to get a personalized, GOOD imitation book cover for their iPhone, and would happily pay a premium for it. In sum: If you're going to do something, do it right. All in all, disappointing. P.S. The blue and red labels and the hubs (bumps) on the spine are well done. Don't take those away!

Keeps her cards in it and uses the detachable section when she wants something slimline to take out on the town. The leather has a distressed look, and has already got a little more distressed in the time she's owned it. Not sure if it's meant to do that of there's a flaw in the leather. Anyway, my wife loves it and loves using it.

But this is wearing to fast.
