  • Overview

The first to offer a fully integrated Lightning connector for your iPhone, the Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back headphones deliver superb sound quality for all the music on your iOS devices. This superior performance for both your music and voice calls is possible thanks to the headphone amplifier and 24-bit DAC built into the Lightning cable. Plus you continue to get the benefits of the special planar magnetic driver derived from Audeze's top-of-the-line LCD Series headphones.

The EL-8 model gives you a lifelike listening experience with an extended frequency response that opens up a new breadth of sound. Its driver is four times larger than most other headphones and gives excellent bass response along with extremely low distortion. To match the EL-8's impressive audio, its industrial design is by BMW’s DesignWorks. And durable aluminum construction ensures that you'll have lasting enjoyment.

    Better technology, better sound

By using a planar magnetic driver instead of a cone-type speaker, the EL-8 offers exceptional transient response and extended bass—virtually flat to 25Hz—along with the lowest Total Harmonic Distortion. These qualities help put you “right there” with the artist.

      Amazing Planar Magnetic Headphones

I have had the opportunity to purchase these headphones as my first pair of planar magnetic headphones. They come with the lighting cable and also a 3.5mm plug I have had the opportunity to purchase these headphones as my first pair of planar magnetic headphones. They come with the lighting cable and also a 3.5mm plug. I thought that I would have wanted the open back version of the EL-8's however I jumped on the option for the titanium closed since it came with the lighting cable and Audeze does not sell them on their site right now. The listening experience is fantastic and very welcoming. The closed-back compared to the open-back has a little less of a full dynamic sound. Maybe on the scale of 1-100. I would give it a 93. With the open-back being 96 or 97. However, with the Audeze app that you download when you first connect the lighting cable form the Audeze in the iOS device, You have the option to adjust the EQ according to your listen experience and with just a a couple of very tiny adjustments I was able to manipulate that difference. Of Course I will have those that will doubt me on this. Thats okay, I know my own ears better than they do ◕‿◕. I am currently using them with a O2+ODAC (revB) DAC/Amplifier and also have tried out the Grace Design x Massdrop m9XX DAC/Amp. When using the 3.5mm plug to the amps. These headphones come alive more so than my brand new Beyerdynamic DT1770 Pro's that were just released a couple months back. The Quality that is pushed through without an amp is impressive. But with an Amp. They are Beautiful. Audeze, I believe, has outdone themselves with the new technology they have put into these headphones. They are a new Neodymium Fluxor magnets. I would google or youtube that to understand a little more about those. They are different than the LCD-3's but for the price. They are well worth it! I have had not issues with paint chipping off or any blemishes either. I would have to say they are a little heavier than my other headphones that I have though, But with the design and the parts that are used. I believe that is expected. I am very happy with these headphones and would recommend them to those that are serious about audio and are entering the audiophile community or are looking for a less expensive higher end audiophile headphone. These are the cheapest Planar Magnetic headphones that I know of that are out there!

..........Disappointing and Underwhelming to say the least

Truthfully and regrettably.....For just shy of £700 worth of headphones, the Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones sound like a £15 pair of headphones. Ho Truthfully and regrettably.....For just shy of £700 worth of headphones, the Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones sound like a £15 pair of headphones. Honestly the most deflated I've ever felt from listening to an audio product. Personally I would consider myself a bit of an audiophile and I've experienced various different pairs of over ear/on ear/in ear headphones over the years and the overall experience of these specific headphones is just simply dull and unenjoyable. I'm struggling to find a way to describe the way that the frequencies in these headphones have been setup, they're all over the place! They just sound so harsh and uncomfortable. The bass is thin, dull and unresponsive, the Mid's are mixed in the most bizarre way I’ve ever heard, where vocals/guitars sound muddled and merged into one and almost distorted in some songs. The high's fizzled…..that’s it. Audeze brag about a large soundscape, where is it? how have these got a large soundscape? Literally so small, thin and boring. Before I purchased these headphones, as always, I did some extensive research to ensure it was worth the investment and pretty much every review I've seen or watched have said how "incredible" these headphones were and how revolutionary the built in DAC was with the lightning port cable. Even at full volume though my iPhone/iPad, they were so quiet?! So I thought maybe they will sound better through my Headphone Amplifier.....Even worse! Normally I would listen to headphones with Flat EQ through Tidal HIFI, gain and bass boost turned off on my headphone amp.....Even turning the Gain and Bass boost on, tuning on the Audeze app, they still sounded terrible, I would say it just accentuated the weird Mid/treble frequency mix even more! The Audeze app is also a waste of time, It doesn't actually do anything! You can't turn up any of the frequencies to fine tune higher than the 0dB preset, as it starts to distort the sound...So the only way you can tune the sound is by turning these frequencies DOWN, which makes it even quieter and more thin and lifeless! I started by listening to some Jazz, then some Rock, some reggae, some heavy metal.....everything was so disappointing, it was just so awkward and uncomfortable to listen to. These have been sent back for a full refund, as I’m in complete disbelief as to how these headphones have turned out after such critical acclaim. TIP - If you're a fan of in ear headphones/monitors, opt for a pair of Shure 846’s instead as these are far superior in every way!!....they even come with a case, which Audeze couldn't manage to squeeze into either the box or the price tag....(actually the Shure's come with 2 cases just to "show off"...it can be done guys!) The best part of this entire experience was the returns process, Conall at Apple Support was very helpful....In a nutshell The Audeze EL-8 Titanium Closed-Back Headphones are just simply disappointing and underwhelming. The icing on the cake to top off this review, they even came with a huge scratch on the right ear cup, for £700. Don't believe the hype.

At $800+ I had the initial sticker shock and wasn't completely convinced I'd end up keeping them. I'm DEFINITELY KEEPING THEM. These are hands down the greatest sound out of the iPhone up to date. Period. I've had my 6 Plus since the day they were released and shortly after began using the lightning port for listening to music. It was a huge improvement over the analog jack. The EL-8 Titanium just took it to a whole different level. I had previously used the lightning-->usb splitter-->amp/dac-->headphone trick to circumvent the iPhone from thinking the amp was drawing any power, which was shaky at best and eventually stopped working for me after one of the recent updates. I knew this must've meant the powers that be were about to release some hardware that they deemed appropriate. What an understatement that was. This is the ultimate paradigm shift for the iPhone. The moment you dial them into whatever your favorite tracks are, you immediately realize you have to go and listen to everything over again. That's how much of a difference they make. The cypher cable and app are truly state of the art. The EQ works regardless of what app you're listening to (Spotify & Tidal FLAC never sounded better). Comparable to listening off the usb from my macbook pro. Yes. I just wrote that. I know you may not believe me, so go take a listen. You'll see. You need to hear these. There's absolutely nothing else that comes even close for the iPhone.

The sound is fantastic although I can't necessarily explain why. My previous favorites were my Sennheiser HD600s and I could listen to them for hours without any fatigue or discomfort. The Audeze EL-8 is just clearer, crisper, more realistic sounding and since they're not open back they don't leak a lot of sound like the HD600s. They're supremely comfortable to boot! These are not the most expensive headphones I own but they're easily my new favorite...plus they came with two very nice cords - one regular cord that I use through my classA headphone amp and another that directly attaches to my iPhone7 lightening port, has an inline DAC, mic and volume controls - very, very nice.
