      Water on Demand!

I was looking for a product like this for sometime because of the nature of my current irrigation system. I have the Rachio for the main Irrigation valves, which works quite well for sprinkler automation, but there is a large area of my yard where I do not have any PVC or Poly hose laid, therefore its all manual watering. The Eve Aqua allowed me to take a simple garden hose and $15 lawn watering attachment from any hardware store and turn it into a fully automated watering system, including "on demand" via Siri on my smart phone or using the Eve App. The product is extremely easy to use, like most Eve products. I loved the voice activation, but in the times where you leave your Smart Phone inside the house, you can press the on/off button on the front of the unit which is nice. There are some nice safety measures- like Child Lock and also an auto shut-off to prevent over watering. You can schedule the times you want the water to turn on, similar to a smart irrigation system (I set mine to go 10 min after the main system ends). The App works similar to other Eve products and tracks your usage. Much needed in the CA drought years. The unit is BlueTooth like other Eve products I have used. What does this mean? It means that you have to be in BT range for the command to be issued to the unit, OR you need an AppleTV that uses HomeKit for the automation. For me, I already had an AppleTV, so that was no problem. The unit was really installed quick easily, comes with batteries (simple thing, but nice gesture) and seems to be well made. The product functions perfectly, and the only real "ding" or "con" I could say is that it doesn't have some kind locking mech, so if your hose is on the street and accessible, someone could come and take it off the hose and steal it. Not sure what Elgato could have done with that, other than adding some kinda suitcase style lock to it. I would not really consider this to be any kinda reason to pass this product up. I am very happy to have found this - another great product in a Smart home family of toys!

You can however program a schedule on the device via the Eve app to allow it to work without needing HomeKit automations. The biggest let down with this device is that you can't tell it to not turn on if it has rained. My device connects fine on iOS 12 and via the HomePod despite what other customers have said. As this device has never worked through Wifi and only via Bluetooth. I can turn this device on or off via 4G when away from home without an issue due to my HomePod being within 2 meters (other side of the wall) from it. I hope this clears some things up.

It has become unreachable and unable to pair again. It was fine and fun for two weeks. Will return it.

It's been very easy to change watering schedules using the app, and my garden has survived as a result. I don't have it set up with HomeKit as I don't have a hub, but this hasn't been a problem for me. Schedules are still easy to use if you're changing settings using BlueTooth. I'm going to be buying a second one for my front yard.

      Bluetooth connectivity limits

Unless yo The Eve Aqua uses a low power Bluetooth connection to your smartphone or Home Hub. Unfortunately, this does work well when there are walls in the way. Unless you are outside and within 2 m of your Eve Aqua, you will get an error message such as :"HomeKit reports that the accessory is not reachable. Please try again. You may also try moving closer to the accessory." So if you connect the Eve Aqua to your outside lawn service and want to control it from inside the house on your smart phone (for example for a night time watering schedule), then IT WILL NOT WORK. As designed, this accessory is totally useless.

      Non-standard connector

This product connects to a 3/4" hose, not a US-standard 5/8", so be wary. To make matters worse, there do not seem to be adapters out there for this. The best This product connects to a 3/4" hose, not a US-standard 5/8", so be wary. To make matters worse, there do not seem to be adapters out there for this. The best I can come up with is getting a 5/8" leader hose and using a 3/4" mender connector on the other end. Beyond that, the product seems to work. It's a little finicky to keep connected to, and I'm a bit concerned that it's only rated IPX4 considering it's literally a part of a hose, but it does work if you can get past the connector problems.
