Do I need the Hue bridge if I have an Apple TV?

I read that the Apple TV can be used as a hub for HomeKit, can that be used in place of the Hue bridge?

    No, the Apple TV can be used as a HomeKit hub, meaning that it will allow you to control your lights with the Home application even if you're not on your local network. It is NOT a replacement for the Hue Bridge. So yes, you absolutely need a Hue Bridge.

  • When I read the explanation of the HomeKit, AppleTV 4th generation is the only one can be used as a hub.
    If you have a previous version of it, AppleTV won't work as a hub.
