Does this unit only control on/off or can I create schedules ?
Will I be able to create scheduled on/off programs, such as "on at 6pm", "off at 11pm" ?

Yes, you can either create schedules through the iHome Control app(which is offered with the device), or Apple's Home app, where you can use automation.
