Can this remote control be used without having a line of sight to the Apple TV?

I have a media cabinet where I would like to put the Apple TV which would have closed doors so would be unable to "see" any IR transmitter. Also is there any difference between the functionality in IR or in Bluetooth/wireless mode.

Siri remote is Bluetooth no line of sight needed. Of course there's a difference between ir and Bluetooth. However, the Siri remote will only communicate with Apple TV via Bluetooth. It can be programmed to control tv and surround sound and you can use a universal remote with ir to operate 4th gen Apple TV as well as the regular old Apple TV remote. Just remember that Siri and other sensors are built into Siri remote so if your using other remote you won't have access to Siri or be able to play some of the games that depend on the sensors.
