Boot Camp requires you to provide your own PC operating system. Whether that is Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Linux (or whatever Boot Camp currently supports) is up to you.

But you need to install a Windows operating system in order to run Windows programs.

The virtual PCs (such as Parallels and VMWare Fusion) also require you to provide your own operating system.

  • Yes, you need Windows to run Windows programs. To use Windows programs without Windows, you'll need Crossover (which actually is a piece of junk).
