The drive, which has a USB-C socket on the back, comes with two cords. One cord is USB-C on each end, other cord has older USB Type A plug on one end for older computers and iMacs. I've got a late 2015 iMac Retina 4K, 21.5 inch, and it works fine using the USB Type A plug (System Profile reports as USB 3.0). The compatibility issue really is whether your MacOS is modern enough (10.5 or later) to handle the 5TB volume; very old systems can't - I've got an old xServe that is unable to mount this drive.
