What is the best external hard drive for my antique Mac Os X 10.6.8, that I do not wish to upgrade.

Searching for best, sturdiest external hard drive for my MacBookPro OS X 10.6.8 for storing photos and videos.
I do not want to upgrade my operating system at this time.
I've had a western digital My Book Live that hasn't worked well.
Someone suggested a LaCie, but there are so many I don't know which one.
I've also read opposing comments about how which is better, firewire or USB.
Thanks.

I would definitely recommend LaCie external HDs. I my experience the connection speeds are: fastest USB3 (NOT USB2!), next firewire 800, next firewire400, finally the oldest/slowest USB2.

You don't say how old your Mac is so look in (click on the Apple symbol) 'About This Mac' to see if it has USB3, if not go for firewire 800 (rectangular shape port with 9 pins) then firewire 400 (thinner port curved at one end with 6 pins).

  • I purchased the seagate usb external hard drive. It has met my needs perfectly.
