can I charge my macbook through the USB?
- Asked by Ed O from Normandy Park

- Flag as inappropriate (can I charge my macbook through the USB?)
Best Answer:No. MacBooks and other laptops can't be charged by USB because USB ports can't handle the amount of wattage it takes to charge a battery of that size. The iPhone, for example, only requires a minimum of 5W to charge, while MacBook chargers start at 60W.

Best Answer:It's an extension cord. You pull our the prongs on the white box, slip in the base from the cord, then plug in the cord. It gives you more cable.

Best Answer:
Yes it is. Power adapters for Intel-based Apple notebooks are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple notebook, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.

Best Answer:Yes. Apple says it is perfectly safe, however your MacBook Air will not charge any faster using a 60w charger than using the included 45w charger. But it is safe.

I have the extension cord that wen with my 85 w power adapter on my older macbook pro (which i don't have).
I now have macbook pro 15 retina display . Can the extension cord also be used with the 60 watt power adapter also?
It does fit in the back of the adapter and it is an extension cord but I want to be safe.- Asked by Kerrie S from North Weymouth

- Flag as inappropriate (Can I use 85 w magsafe power extension cord with my newer 60w power adapter?)
Best Answer:Yes, as far as I've checked and tested: using the old extension cord from a busted magsafe on the new retina pro magsafe in office and the new one at home, so I don't drag the extension cord with me everytime along with the magsafe adapter brick. It's just a basic electric cord that works with all Apple power adapter bricks, even the iPad ones. You can even check it has the same specs written on the cable.
To be perfectly clear, we are talking about just the extension electrical cord from the outlet to the magsafe brick, and not the magsafe adapter itself.- Answered by Bozidar J

Answer
MagSafe 2 is Apple's update to their power supplies. It's more energy-efficient, charges faster, doesn't heat up as much, and is more difficult to break.
The MagSafe 2 magnetic connection is more shallow than the MagSafe was, which could reduce the risk of poor connection caused by a bend on the connector.
You could use an adapter to convert a MagSafe to a MagSafe 2 connection, but I don't think it will cause it to charge more efficiently. Be careful to always use the correct wattage on your computer, too. Just because the connection fits doesn't mean it should be used to charge your laptop.- Answered by Dustin H from Fort Wayne

If i have the warranty on my macbook pro and I loose the AC wall adapter piece will they send me a new one because it is under warranty?
- Asked by Tiffany G from Brodhead

AnswerNo they will not send you a new one, you are responsible if the power adaptor gets lost. Warranty only covers if your MacBook or power adaptor is defective or something happens to it on its own within that warranty period. What your saying is like "My MacBook is under warranty, if i loose it will Apple send me a new one?"No.

Best Answer:The guy at the Apple Store on 5th Ave said they use the 60 Watt charger on all the computers in the store. Doesn't matter if you use the higher 60 watt on a smaller computer that came with a 45w.
