DON'T BUY!!! (I would not even give it a 1 star rating)

    • Written by Tiffany G from sandy

Way over priced AND it's junk!!! Wobbly, height adjustment doesn't lock good and the amount it adjusts is hardly worth it! The box it came in is nicer than this stand. If I was not going to return it I would use the box to set my mac pro on, not this stand!!!

    Stand was crooked

    • Written by Esko P from Calgary

I got this stand because of the height adjustability. The "V" mount, where the laptop sits, was not centered, and off to the left about a centimeter--you can't adjust this. I'm actually quite surprised that a) an $80 stand would not have better quality assurance and b) Apple actually carries this. I got the mStand instead.

Great stand. Providing you use it up the right way.

    • Written by Michael P from Sunninghill

I received this stand today. It's excellent.

It's sturdy, looks great with my Macbook Pro 15" and has high build quality.

I was put off by a few of the reviews on here, but after experiencing the stand first hand, I can assure you that your laptop will NOT slide off... providing you have the stand up the right way. The laptop is supposed to go on the V-shaped, rubber-gripped arms. Not on the flat metal square base with the silicon around the edge.

STAY AWAY!! Macbook Pro slips. Stand is FLIMSY.

    • Written by Muhammad M from Euless

I bought this disregarding the reviews because I didn't believe Apple would offer such a low-quality product on their site but that is absolutely the case. Right when I opened the box it felt very cheap, the stand had scratches and did not even stay level, my Macbook is literally sitting on it looking crooked. That's not even the worst.. I actually had my brand new Macbook slip on to the table(thankfully no scratches)!!!! Would stay AWAY!!! I wouldn't even give this product a 1 star.

The top is the bottom and the bottom is the top

    • Written by Caitlin B from queen charlotte

Thank goodness for product reviews. Pulled this baby out of the box (it really is a nice box) and plunked it on my desk with the V on the desk and the square side facing up. Popped my laptop on top, looked the other way and jumped out of my skin as my MacBook Air slid onto my desk. First reaction, outrage. Second reaction, leave a nasty product review! Third reaction, read other product reviews, realize I have the thing upside down and feel pretty sheepish. I'm using this now as a great support for my laptop, paired with the Apple keyboard and bluetooth mouse and alongside an inexpensive, larger monitor. Ergonomics are feeling great!

You Really Want This To Be Good, But ....

    • Written by J Wendell W from Orleans

There isn’t really much more that can be said that hasn’t already been said about this stand – good and bad.

As I couldn't decide which active stand I wanted to get for my home office to get out of ergonomic jail with my MacBook Air, I decided to buy this and the Rain Design mStand.

After just a few days of side-by-side tests, the HiRise is simply not up to par with the mStand in terms of overall performance. It looks good, and comes in a very upscale package, but you aren’t paying for looks and a nice box to store stuff in. I found that the HiRise has enough glitches, that, when strung together, don’t deliver at any price, let alone the premium cost this sells for.

    Height adjustable.
    Aluminum material.
Teflon footing on base plate makes it easy to slide or turn for others to see (if you really need that functionality).

Adjustment pole has lack of sturdiness at full height.
Lock knob sometimes hard to screw-in tightly enough.
Silicon matting on the arms of the V-bracket doesn't elicit confidence unless the laptop isn't in the perfectly balanced position - high risk to be knocked off the stand.
    Construction feels iffy.
Highest setting is still too low for my needs.
Machined joints at the top and base of the main support posts have too much play.

In theory this should be a standout item, but sadly, it isn’t. This will be going back in deference to the superior mStand.

    Excellent product!

    • Written by robert R from ponte vedra beach

This laptop stand works perfectly with my MacBook Pro 13". It has plenty of adjustability and the fit and finish is superb. The rubber is plenty sticky and holds my MBP 13" like flypaper. I shake my head when I see the 1-star reviews here. They are either trolls or are not using product as designed. I understand that what works for one does not necessarily work for another, but if one attacks this product's ability to hold a laptop in place or the ability to adjust the stand to a proper height, they're just wrong. Or their expectations were wrong. They make me shake my head in disbelief.

    Don't Believe the Negative Reviews

    • Written by David S from Glasgow

The item comes very well packaged, well in line with the Apple products themselves.
It even supplies an instruction manual the implicitly states after MacBook is placed on the stand "now use an external mouse and keyboard".
    This is a STAND.
It is NOT designed for use of the in-built keyboard / trackpad of the hardware whilst it is in use.

Makes my MacBook look like it is floating, and even allows me to hide external drives / usb hubs now, below the raised MacBook and remain out of site.

I couldn't recommend this enough. It is a quality product, with quality design, which is perfect for the job it was designed to do.

    Excellent Stand!

    • Written by Michael P from Leeds

I am a bit surprised by some of the negative reviews for this stand. I've been using mine for about 6 months and its absolutely solid - no issues with my MacBook Pro 15" slipping at all. I did have an issue in the first week but that's only because I was being dim and had the stand upside down!! I had what I thought were the feet at the bottom - turned out that's what the laptop should have been on and the square bit was the base!!

Anyway - this is a fabulous stand in my opinion - at least for the 15" MacBook Pro anyway.

    Works well

    • Written by Vernon T from Venice

Based on all the reviews, I wasn't hesitant to buy this stand, but I figured I'd give it a shot because it was height adjustable and actually looked good (and the return policy). I'm completely happy with the stand and not experiencing any of misalignment issues other reviewers experienced. I'm planning on buying a second one for work.

Ideal if you want to break your laptop - Read this before you buy

    • Written by Alexander A from London

I bought this stand thinking that I was buying a quality product from the apple website, but be warned this is an expensive piece of junk. Firstly the base of the stand has a cheap strip of slippery plastic, so if you or anyone else walks past and accidentally bumps into you laptop it will slide around as if it were on an ice rink.

Secondly the arms have some very soft rubber if you have a heavy laptopn like my MacBook Retina 15" it will just slide off and fall to the ground when you are not there! Warning: do not leave your laptop unattended on this stand it will plumet to the ground!! I have had my £2000+ laptop fall on the ground countless times and dented! Thanks Twelve South, If you like your macbook please take my advice and leave this stand well alone.

    Works good, sometimes

    • Written by Eric S from Atlanta

I have this sitting in my home office and yes it does keep the laptop up...but it leans...constantly.

It is made of a nice aluminum material which is useless because the large (screw) in the back holds tight...but never seems to keep this thing straight.

You are better off buying something with two legs rather than a cylindrical column.

    Good and bad

    • Written by Janet B from Nottingham

I have this stand and when I used it with my old Macbook Pro it kept sliding off. I had to put some non slip material-the sort you can buy for trays etc- under it to prevent the laptop landing on my desk every time I left it.
I now have a new Macbook and it doesn't have the same problem.
However, there is another problem. When I open the laptop I have to steady it or it tips over to the side of the V. I think parallel arms might be better but may not look so snazzy.

I've seen some reviews from people describing their laptops sliding off this stand... they are using it it upside down!! Just don't be daft and use it the right way up and you'll find that you've bought an excellent stand.

    Overpriced and wonky

    • Written by Sam H from Bolton

Use a pile of books, it's much cheaper and more stable

Although the stand is advertised as 'adjustable' it barely moves. It is also usually wonky unless fully open.

    Most Important Desk Accessory

    • Written by Brad S from Edmonton

I bought this stand when it first came out about 3 or 5 years ago, way before apple ever started carrying it. It carries out its function perfectly and with style (matches apple display or imac stands). My mac has never slipped off... so I am curious what others are doing to their's....

    Doesn't work

    • Written by Geena L from Wallbrook

I can't even use this anymore.
Unless I am going to be sitting at my macbook to constantly push it back onto the stand it will slide off of this stand (and potentially onto the floor). It slips so much that I have to push it back onto the stand about 20 times during my 9 hour work day.
It drives me crazy so I don't use it anymore! Too bad as I like how small the unit is.

    Too low!

    • Written by Carly Ketzirah L from Washington

Despite some of the warnings I ordered one from Amazon. I'm not having any of the slippage problems people talk about, but I ordered for ergnomic reasons -- and the darn thing is about 2-3 inches too low. Sure, it's better than just having it on my desk, but even at the highest setting I'm still having to look down. And I'm not very tall.

    Returning it.
