    Not Grounded

I can't recommend this product because it lacks a third prong ground. As a musician who records with my MacBook, I have to use Apple's MagSafe extension cable which has a 3rd prong ground to eliminate noise coming through the headphone jack while playing my guitar through a USB connection and charging the MacBook at the same time.

Good idea in principle but doesn't quite deliver

In principle, this should have been a fantastic product - at last, one simple charger for all the devices you take abroad without having to haul a bag of adapters, cables and travel plugs. So here is the reality. You still have to take your power adapter for your mac and cables for your mac and iphone, but instead of a slim travel plug, this device takes it's place. The benefit it that you can leave your iphone plug behind because you can charge it straight through this USB port. The downside is that this device is much bulkier and I cannot really see it's benefit when you can charge your iphone through your mac USB port (if the hotel doesn't already have a USB - most seem to have them in rooms these days). So really, if you don't need to charge your iphone in the plug at the same time, all you need is the slim change of plug pins to convert to different regions... and you can buy these at a cheaper price and more of them to convert your existing mac power adapter. If this plug actually produced enough power to charge a mac without the need for taking its power adapter and cables, it would be fantastic - but that's just it, the idea is only good in principle because in reality, it's a large travel plug that just so happens to have a USB port.

    Constant annoying high-pitched buzzing sound

I was very excited when I've bought this.
Right after plugging it in I've become aware that device emits a high-pitched sound when its plugged in, with or without any device connected to it. Unfortunately, I'm traveling right now and can't return this product, but if you consider buying it - be aware of this possible outcome.

    Grounding (earthing) issue

Another reviewer mentioned the buzz/tingle felt when using this charger. It turns out that when using the plug attached directly to the Apple chargers you have exactly the same issue, because there's no earth (ground) connection. When using the power cable, connection is made to earth and there is no tingle.

So this isn't unique to the PlugBug.

Note that the tingle isn't present when the mains are 100 / 110 volts as in Japan, Taiwan, Canada, the US, etc. I've only felt this at 220 / 240 volts.

This is a clever device but as someone else mentioned it's pretty big.

    Works as you would expect

Works like you think it would, and it works well, however, it essentially doubles the overall size of the charger footprint. My pack is packed pretty tight most of the time, so I am always looking for space-saving options.

Feels cheap and doesn't fit new Mac Book Pro (2016) charger

I like the idea of this device, not just due to the international adapters but to provide a USB charger output given the MacBook Pro now one has USB C connectors and I have 3 USB based apple devices in addition to the MacBook to charge whilst I'm travelling. However the adapter will not fit the new MacBook Pro power brick. The steel locating pin seems to be too big for the PlugBug. And the whole device feel cheaply made and even brittle.

I'll be returning to Apple and relying on travel adaptors instead. Shame - nice idea, poorly implemented.

Not compatible with newest MacBook 2016 Power Adapters!

If you have a MacBook Pro 2016 (with or without touchbar) it WON'T fit. Don't bother.

    Great for travellers

Great bit of kit. I have had mine in frequent use for years with no problems, including no problems with the USB (not sure about the reason of the other reviewer having issues...not much specified in the review).
When in use in Europe the 2 pins do not have earthing, hence a 'buzzing' feeling when in use. You will notice that the Apple Original product is exactly the same - that is to ensure that you can use it in a socket that doesn't feature an earth facility (common enough in Europe). To avoid this, you can use the another cable with an adaptor which is earthed.
I would, and do, recommend this to anyone who travels with a MacBook.

    Works in Europe, But Caution

I am rating this a 2 for very specific reason, it does not have a grounding connection on the adapters.

I went to Zurich, Switzerland, Athens & Crete, Greece recently(March/April 2015), at all 3 locations, my macbook "buzzed" when I was touching it while charging

This is 100% due to no grounding in the plug bug. I replaced the plug bug with a long cable that has the european connector with grounding and the buzz went away.

The USB worked well, however, my iPhone experienced the same buzz as my mac did while charging both at the same time.

This is an expensive adapter to not have grounding.

    I do NOT recommend purchasing.

Make sure whatever you buy has a grounding connector. Looks like a square metal spring tab at edge of european plug.

    Holiday travel charger

You never know in business these days, when you may get called out on a mission abroad. This will come in handy! Also it first of all caught my eye because, I thought it may be a bugging device to trace other trackers that may be installed within the chargers for other handsets rival brands! Just my thoughts no accusations here.

does what it says buy make sure you read the compatibility list

i wanted to be able to simultaneously charge my ipad air and iphone 5 and just use a singe wall socket. so i got one of these. i plugged in an apple 12 watt power adapter and started to charge both devices. i noticed the 12 south adapter started to get really hot so i swapped the devices that were plugged in. iphone 5 to the 12 south USB socket and the ipad air to the apple adapter USB socket then all was well again and there was no longer any heat issues. just have to make sure i always use the 12 south adapter on the iphone 5 and not the ipad air. not sure of the reason, something to do with current perhaps? anyway, just sharing.

Good device. Not for all countries!

Bought this for our 13wk travels around Europe. Very good adaptor to charge our laptop, iPad, iphones and GoPro, using either the mains power or usb. Performed very well. Only gave 3 stars due to not being compatible in Switzerland and most of Italy, as there are no adaptor plugs for these countries. Twelve South should rectify to make it "World" plug as it says...

    Excellent Product

I bought this for a trip to France this summer, knowing that i'd want to charge my iPhone, and one of the two iPads we own. This charger includes adapters for Continental Europe, Asia, the US and the UK, and it allows for charging of one or two devices depending on whether or not you bring your additional Apple charger too. I was incredibly impressed with this charger, the included bag helps with organization, and really can not find a single fault, plus it was great value too!

Excellent, No Issues Whatsoever, A Small Issue

This is an excellent product. After doing my research, I figured that the PlugBug World Charger would be a better revision of the original PlugBug (US Version) that only worked for the US , eliminating the heat and noise issue perhaps.

And I was right. This is my first PlugBug and I absolutely love it. No heat and noise issues as stated by reviewers of the original PlugBug. Saves me time and hassle by allowing me to simultaneously charge my iPhone or iPad along with my MacBook Air.

Easy to set up, a little bit bulky but that's certainly obvious, given that you're given an extra outlet for the USB charging capability. Comes with the plugs that allows you to charge in other countries and a small bag to hold those plugs.

One design limitation, however, is the US adapter plug provided with the PlugBug isn't retractable like the Apple adapter plug. Simple fix around that is to use the Apple adapter plug, even though it sticks out just a little bit. A minor concern.

Highly recommended piece of gear if you own a MacBook and an iPad or an iPhone.

    Disappointing

Wouldn't recommend this as it over promises and under delivers. Very, very slow at charging especially when you have 2 devices plugged into it.

    Great Product

Does exactly what you expect and more, used this while travelling around europe and it worked perfectly, especially when you aren't sure what plug you will need!
Gets a bit heavy when you plug a macbook charger into it, but i can charge my mac, iPad and iPhone all at once.
