OK controller - marred by lack of support outside US

    • Written by Christopher B from Canberra

I bought this controller in Australia & found out I could not update the firmware becasue I was not on the US iTunes store. Steelseries do not support this device outside the US as the app is down on iTunes stores outside the US. There seems to be no will to rectify this. You're on your own.

    The controller is adequate.

    Great when it worked!

    • Written by Robert H from Stockton

It was great when it worked for two months...now it sits on a shelf collecting dust. The left joystick sticks and makes game play useless.

    Works well for some games

    • Written by David R from Lynnwood

I play Marvel Contest of Champions and this controller is listed as compatible. The problem is there is some lag, and the biggest problem is that you can't press the heavy attack button and hold it down to power up the attack, it just fires immediately. If you are a decent player, it makes the controller useless. Hopefully they will fix this soon.

    Great when it works

    • Written by Scott N from Laporte

Here is a known issue with the game controllers and the ATV4. You cannot choose what player the remote should be. For most games you’ll notice it says P1, but when you open the game it defaults to P2. This makes the game controller useless in games since it won’t work. It will only allow the Apple TV remote to play. EXTREMELY dissapointed that his basic feature was overlooked. Apple please work on this !!!

Manuals very bad for new users company so cheap no lightening cable include

    • Written by Sam I from Henderson

You buy the item, open the nylon bag to find very little instructions on how to use the Nimbus .
This company is the cheapest (Denmark) company I ever seen they charge so much for the product and do not include a 3’ lightening cable that might cost them in China maybe a couple of pennies . That’s why I love Apple they include what you need to start your product with . If I did not had one at home I would have send it back and bought a deferent item .But so far I am unhappy still charging it for 3 hours where I do not understand my head to my toes as I said I am a new user . But bought the New Apple TV 64GB and saw this so I bought it hope I will learn other wise it goes back .

    Won't last long

    • Written by Andrew L from San Jose

The controller is great when it's working. In the last couple weeks the controller was acting weird and wouldn't connect to the appleTV. I would need to plug it in to charge for it to work. Now, it connects to the appleTV but the controller won't work. I get no response when pushing any of the buttons. After reading other reviews about this controller, this seems to be a problem.

    Prone to failure?

    • Written by Jamie M from Ottawa

Being used to Xbox 360 controllers I didn't think about the build quality of another game controller. I kind of assumed they were all the same. What a difference to what I'm used to using! Something broke during a particularly vigorous round of Asphalt 8. Now the left stick, well sticks, and the piece of plastic rattling around in the controller sometimes gets jammed behind a button. I've never had a controller for a gaming console break, so this was disappointing.

Noticeable latency with L and R buttons

    • Written by Grant F from Musselburgh

There is a definite and annoying latency when using the gaming controller. For example when controlling the flippers in Zen PInball there is a definite lag in responsiveness. Don't have this problem with the Siri Controller.

    No charging instructions or cable!

    • Written by Christopher R L from Liege

Needs a lightning cable to charge it: OK, I've a couple, but how cheap can you get to not include one in the box. I hunted high and low and figured I'd been sold a duff deal, but checked here and saw that others made the same comment. Duh!

It's no big deal to figure out, but there are also no instructions whatsoever on how to recharge the controller. I know it's obvious, once you've figured out that it'd done via lightning cable, but none of that gets a mention in the somewhat worthless booklet Mind you it begs the question of how long you have to charge for (both initially and for top-ups).

I tested it out in the Apple Store and it's alot better than Apple's Remote. Remains to be seen whether it lasts the course.

    Not exactly happy with this

    • Written by Peter W from Brighton

i thought this would be like a joystick from long ago. Plug it in & it will work with everything, but this only works with certain games, most of which I do not have. A couple listed games on their app don't work. It would be nice if it would work with everything, as the AppleTv4 remote leaves a lot to be desired, at least IMO.

Live & learn - I really need to stop buying this stuff.

    Left stick failure

    • Written by William W from Miami Springs

I purchased two of these in November. I'm not a heavy gamer, but on the one that I use (there are very few two-player games yet of the Apple TV), the left controller joystick started not returning to center, and then it just failed altogether. So, I picked up and started using the second one while I waited for a response from Nimbus tech support, and the very next day the controller I seldom used also failed in exactly the same way. I have seen other similar comments about the same issue. It was an OK controller when it worked.

The best MFi controller yet but...

    • Written by Simon W from Norton

This is an excellent controller to use, very comfortable with well laid out buttons and properly shaped triggers. The convenience of charging via Lightning cable is also fantastic, although the battery life is so long it rarely needs a charge. When switched on it will automatically connect to the last device it was paired with but it can also be easily connected to another device if you want to switch from playing on the iPad to the Apple TV.

However, there is a significant fly in the ointment. After only two months one of the buttons has stopped working and Apple will not replace it. Instead they want me to RMA it via SteelSeries who are in Denmark. SteelSeries in turn won't send a replacement but instead give me credit to buy a new one from their website. This is all a huge hassle and has left me with a seriously bad impression of Apple's support.

Only get one of these if you're willing to jump through many hoops and be without the controller for weeks if it breaks.

Zen Pinball Flipper Lag on Apple TV

    • Written by Simon S from Tadworth

It is almost impossible to play any of the tables with this controller via Apple TV. The flipper lag means you have no accuracy of ball control. Tried everything to resolve. Latest firmware. Latest Apple TV upgrade. Stand next to Apple TV. Nothing. You can see the delay it's bad. Any suggestions would be very much welcomed.
