    Great Controller!

    • Written by Michael H from Phoenix

Being a person that works from home I tend to have a lot of free time between jobs and I fill that time with gaming. I bought this controller the day it came out with my Apple TV. Fast forward... ummm... a long time and the controller has held up pretty well. There are some things that could be better, sure. The triggers on the bottom (L2 & R2) aren't as responsive as I'd like them to be. The rubber on the right stick has worn down exposing the plastic underneath. However, all things considered I think it's a solid controller; in fact, I am buying a second one tomorrow (the white one).

    Not too bad, actually

    • Written by Laurentiu C from Ottawa

I see people complaining here about lack of support, or partial support only, for their favorite game on some Apple platform. Others, comparing the Nimbus to Xbox controllers a.s.o. You need to compare Apples to Apples, if I may say so.

Well, Apple could do a better job at letting users know that support for MFi Game Controllers in any particular app is at the latitude of the app developer. Customers know, when they buy the device, that Apple don't service it and RTM is the only option after the usual 14 days. Other than this, Xbox and PS4 have 20 years experience behind them and this accounts for some optimizations.

    My 2 cents:

Cons: The left thumbstick is indeed a bit problematic; as a developer, I chose to use the DPAD for navigation. Both thumbsticks are a bit rigid ("elastic"), which makes control of their position around the center (the default position) a bit difficult, thus aiming targets in motion is a bit complicated; this is the only point where I found the Horipad Ultimate better than the Nimbus. The real problem is more insidious and it's for developers to address: when the player moves the thumbstick to 100% of its run, sometimes it sends a "0" signal instead of "1", as if it was in the center. The same applies to shoulders and triggers. It's random but must be factored in, which complicates game development.

Pros: The overall design is elegant, controls are responsive, the feel of the triggers and shoulders is great. Hand grip is good. Battery life is very good.

Overall: I like the Nimbus and I think that currently it's the best option in terms of MFi Game Controllers for the Apple TV.

    Good

    • Written by David W from Aberdeen

Product feels solid and good quality. The Nimbus pairs to the Apple TV or iPhone very easily and uses the lightning charger, everything is very convenient.

At first glance I thought this item was expensive but compared to other controllers its actually quite reasonable, for example other brands charge extra for a rechargable battery pack but this is included in the initial price for the Nimbus.

    Good controller

    • Written by Candis M

Bought it without any real expectations but turned out to be pretty good. It's a lot more satisfying than my on-screen buttons when it comes to playing games.

    Relief!

Was extremely tired of tapping the screen on my iPad whilst playing my games and bought this. I have not been disappointed at all. Use this for my iPhone and Apple TV too now.

Nimbus = New Age Of IOS Gaming?

    • Written by Ken C from London

This wireless controller is very well built & has a similar feel/design as the Xbox 360 controller. The one difference is that you cannot 'depress' the analog sticks. It charges via Lighting cable.

Despite being wireless via BLUETOOTH, the actions are very smooth. I didn't notice any latency.

If you are interested & not sure what games are compatible, there is a FREE APP called 'NIMBUS' that lists all the compatible games. Some of the AAA games that are compatible include:

    Dead Trigger 2
    Star Wars: KOTOR
    Metal Slug Series
    Bastion
    Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions
    Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas
    Star Horizon
    Halo: Spartan Assault

This is compatible with the new APPLE TV designed for gaming, so this is a Future-Proof investment if you intend to but the new APPLE TV. As this is a product sold on the Apple website, & the NEW APPLE TV will likely have more future games, this controller is worthwhile.

So why only 4 stars? For the price of the controller: it does not include it's own APPLE LIGHTNING CHARGING CABLE. This is not a deal breaker as most users 'may' already have their own lighting cable for their iphone/ipad. Nevertheless, it's rare to find a product that doesn't ship with the very cable that is needed to charge it.

    Excellent Controller, I just...

    • Written by Christian T from North Hills

Excellent Controller, I just wish it had a way to dock the phone to make gaming easier with my mobile ios devices. I don't have an Apple TV, in fact, I don't even have a television. However, gaming on this controller with the iPhone and iPad is an absolute blast! I played Sonic 1 from Sega (in the App store) and it was EXTREMELY nostalgic! :) You are limited to slightly less buttons than a console controller and not every game works with the controller, because the game was meant for your fingers. But when you do find a game that works, like Grand Theft Auto!! It's amazzzziiiinnnggg!! :) Also so happy I paid $50 and not $100 lol

    Nimbus wireless controller

    • Written by wayne C from west bromwich

Bought this controller a week ago from the apple shop, it's a good solid controller works with my apple tv 4 and ipad and iphone, the cost is about what i woulld expect to pay, the price is equal to an xbox controller or playstation controller so people saying that its expensive need to have a look at the other controllers cost, it has a built in battery unlike xbox contollers, for the same price and charges from a lightening cable, apple need to get more apps that support this controller

    Great But

    • Written by Richard S from Exmouth

Got this for xmas from my lovely wife. Great product which feels great quality when using. Was great that it works with my Imac as well as my apple TV which was a bonus to me as had just downloaded Elite Dangerous and playing on a keyboard is not easy. My only gripe would be that for the cost of it, I was disappointed that you didn't get a lightning cable to charge it in the box. Fine if you have the new apple TV or an Iphone with a cable but if you don't this is a bit like getting a christmas present without the batteries!!

Amazing! ios and Apple TV developers BETTER take advantage

    • Written by Tobias S from Sunrise

I took 1 star off for not providing a charging cable.

Always have been a big fan of steelseries straightforward design with keyboards.

The same sturdy solid feel comes with the controller. Far from feeling like a cheap madkatz accessory THIS FEELS like it fits within the apple ecosystem.

    Top Notch.

LOVE that it charges off lightning cable too!!

Turns games like OceanHorn from a 1 star rating to a 5 because it woks so well with the game and it feels right!

The right joystick I have found sticks a bit, also now my controller will pair but not actually work at all. Have to do a warranty replacement now.

Wish they'd spent less on the packaging, and used that $$ to include a charging cable. Would be more useful.
