    Works Great

    We’ve had the August Smart Lock several months now, no complaints it works great.

    As soon as I purchased this lock I had issues. Auto unlock wouldn't work and sometimes the unlocking feature wouldn't work at all. I have the connect device as well. After about 6 months, the lock would just stop working, and I was locked out twice. The only way to get it to work again was to remove the batteries. After trying to get this fixed through August support, they finally admitted that there is a defect that causes the lock to stop working and they are working to fix it. The thing is they only admitted 1 month after my warranty expired. Now they won't do anything to help me despite the fact that I contacted them for support on this issue well before the warranty period was up.

    New firmware update

    I'm happy that I did not read some of these reviews before purchasing this lock. August has updated the lock with new firmware. I have only had it 7 hours and it works perfectly.

    Easy to install and operate

    After having to change out locks because a roommates former assistant had keys, I decided to look for a solution that would allow access without keys. August is perfect. Installed in about 20 minutes using only my iPhone and a philips screwdriver. Haven't had any issues. Now we can grant access for specific people on certain days and even for certain times. Auto locks itself after 5 minutes and usually auto unlocks when I'm within Bluetooth range (about 2-8 feet actually but sometimes doesn't work because Bluetooth or wifi are turned off). I did have issues with the August keypad I purchased but after contacting August via email it was quickly replaced. I still keep my keys on me since it is wireless mechanical technology and not magic. Home network performance, iPhone issues, software problems, wireless interference and mechanical failure are constant possibilities but should still work like normal with the key.

    No matter how secure you think it is, you're wrong

    My son-in-law the tech genius installed it for me four weeks ago. The longer I have it, the worse it gets. Last night it unlocked the door while I watched from 20 feet away. It's not set up for remote access, I did not add any Guests, and every conceivable security feature in the environment has been enabled. Yet it unlocked the door at 10 p.m. What if it had been midnight, or even later? This is a flawed product. Avoid.

    Not Great

    First I should say that I am an Apple nut, and very much into home automation, and HomeKit in particular. I lost count as to how many devices I have that are HomeKit enabled, but it includes lights, t-stats, smoke detectors, door bell, sound, tv, etc.

    I have two of these locks with network adapters, and one Schlage Sense lock. The comparison is pretty stark. The August locks are slow to operate unless you are standing right at the door, and they eat batteries. The battery cover on one of the locks routinely falls off.

    The Schlage lock on the other hand operates quickly from anywhere, is much more sturdily built, does not require a separate module to connect to the network, and the batteries last much longer. It also has a two stage motor system that gears down in the event that your deadbolt doesn't line up perfectly. I have this lock on my highest traffic door.

    Bottom line Schlage is a better lock and a better deal.

    WARNING: Potential fire, safety and life HAZARD!

    This lock doesn't rate one star -- it needs to be recalled and removed from the market. Received lock mid-November. Lock failed December 25! The voice activation worked -- but the deadbolt failed to open. I tried to open the lock manually, but the deadbolt remained locked, so there was no way to open the door without removing the device (hard enough to do in a hurry from inside, but really tough if you're locked out). I tried reinstalling the lock, but that did not correct the problem. The lock might be "smart," but the design engineers that thought deadbolt tail piece adapters should be cheap plastic instead of steel (in a $200 product), ought to be fired for stupidity. Don't risk not being able to open an egress door in an emergency!

    so far...

    I have had installed for almost 4 months now... so far all seems fine. I did have to replace batteries already, but atribute that to heavy usage of front door (i hope) and the home-kit does not seem compatible without a "firmware" update, but it still has not performed this update.

    I assumed this occurs without owner being proactive to initiate update.. I hope?

    Very happy with my 3 locks.

    I have purchased 3 locks and installed them in 3 different apartments, also purchased the additional units to control the locks remotely. All of them have worked great, installation was very easy. It's been over two years and I have no complaints. I extended a virtual key to our cleaning lady and guests, this is a great feature. I can't go back to the days I used a phiscal key any more. I have read other people's reviews and I don't understand why the bad ratings.

    The Other Reviews Are Incorrect

    This lock is completely compatible with homekit and ios10. It did get a firmware update to enable this, but the lock has been working for two months for me now. I haven't used a key since installing.

    Works as described

    I got this because of the looks, and home kit compatible. When I purchased it, HomeKit was not active in it. About 2 weeks or so later, HomeKit firmware update went through and all is good. Works fine with HomeKit. Installation was simple, works great with the August Doorbell.

    Great Product , lack of upgrade firmware

    I will change to 5 stars when upgrade is done. Great product actually. Easy to install

    In regards to the Apple HomeKit functionality, please see the August Web. We have to wait till upgrade firmware is ready then we can connect to Apple homekit enable

    Lacks firmware update

    New August Smart Lock still lacks proper firmware update to work with Apple's Homekit. I have contacted Augusts' software engineers on multiple occasions and week after week they continue to tell me the update is on the way. Homekit shouldn't be advertised on the box/ website if the device isn't capable of integrating with Homekit. Lock works great but I'm disappointed I was promised something that is not yet included.

    Does now work as advertised

    I purchased this lock to be used with my apple TV and apple homekit. I did my research and was happy to find a lock that would fit these needs. Upon installing the lock, I had a hard time setting it up with my apple TV (home app) I called the support line and learned that the lock does not work with IOS10. I feel mislead and lied to. This lock is no homekit compatible. Don't waste your time. Find another option.

    Don't Waste Your Money

    Where do I begin with these terrible products and their lack of adequate support. I purchased all three products together, Lock, Door Bell Cam, and Keypad. The lock installed quickly but is just a Bluetooth device until you connect either a Home Connect hub or the doorbell cam. The Keypad was easy to install as well. The setup through the app was less straightforward with many starts and stops and reboots. Once all three units were installed, the first major problem I had was with the Doorbell Cam not getting a strong enough signal. My Canary is less than five feet away from the Cam and it has a very strong signal. When you set up the Cam August tells you to do it right on top the wireless router. The reason for that is the farther away from the router you are the signal drops very dramatically. Now remember that on all my other devices that are in the vicinity of the door bell cam get a strong signal. I spoke to August support and they suggested that I purchase a WiFi Hot Spot to boost the signal to the device. I went out and spend another hundred dollars for a hotspot, then wired a Ethernet cable down to the within five feet of the cam. Guess what? Now it works intermittently.. The signal with the hotspot five feet away is at the lowest working level for the device. With this device you have to install a wireless antenna with in inches of it to work properly. The truth is the design of the antenna in the Doorbell Cam is deficient. I guess this is the best this can get. I have been living with this for a couple fo months and now the door lock uses up batteries at two per week!!!! In the interim, we have come home to find that the door is open (unlocked), The batteries are dead, and we need to get the spare key to open the door. Again, we need to change the batteries. Calling tech support is useless since it takes over a half hour just to get a knowledgeable person on the phone. These products are terrible, they do not work as advertised, are not secure, and are a complete waste of time and money. I am hoping that I can return the products and get a complete refund. However, my experience with August so far is that I will not get much satisfaction from them.

    HomeKit functionality not there...

    The lock was very easy to install. It took a little for my phone to recognize it during setup in the August app (ended up needing to turn my phone off and back on). I haven't had any issues with my phone accessing it, but my stepdaughter had issues when coming home from school the day after installation, and remote access isn't available for us yet for me to have been able to help her. One of the features I was most looking forward to was being able to "access the lock remotely" via HomeKit. However, with iPhone 7Plus and iOS 10.0.2, Home will recognize the lock, but states the lock is "not supported" and requires a firmware update through the manufacturer and the manufacturer's website states the lock is not compatible with iOS 10 and they are working closely with Apple for a solution in the "next few weeks" and will then release their firmware update. Hopefully the updates comes out soon and I'll be able to establish the remote connection, but until then I'm disappointed the full capabilities of the smart lock as described aren't available.
