Didn't think I'd find a good use case for this.. Until I brought one.

I was looking to expand on my HomeKit setup and was skeptical about this thing. Didn't see the value upfront. But, I decided to give one a try and am glad that I did.

Installation was simple. I have moldings around all of my doors and even with those, I was able to make these fit perfectly. They're smaller than the pictures make them look.

    As always, setup was simple.

I've got a few things I've used these for now. I really only use my front door to get the mail. Well, combined with a Hue Light, when I open the front door, the light goes. When I shut it, it goes off. Notifications are also a nice feature here. Every time a door opens, I get a notification. Hopefully I'll never have to receive one when I'm at work and not expecting any visitors but I have that added sense of security. Definitely worth the cost.

    Prestigious!

Another prestigious Elgato Eve product. Works just as you want it to. Setup was a charm. You can ask Siri for example "Is my back door closed?" I put it on my back sliding glass door which is white in color. Works like a charm! Would recommend to all friends.

    Works as advertised

Set up was quick. Response of the alert is almost immediate... under two seconds. With AppleTV, I get notice of an opening or close anywhere I am. Best HomeKit device known.

Solid product, does what is made for

I got this product to put on the window to my sons room. We have a chime for our central alarm system but it is faint and has no smart phone notification. By adding this to the same window that has the alarm sensor, now I can get notified to my iPhone when the window is open which is exactly what I wanted. I wasn't interested in the logging features or what this sensor can provide, but just a simple notification. I have not tried to hook it up into my AppleTV yet for remote notifications. Simple design, easy to mount, good product.

    Device works but spacers didn't

The device - once I got it installed - reports accurately on the open/closed state of the window that I have it attached to. Unfortunately, I needed to use the enclosed spacers and there wasn't any documentation for those. I gathered that I was supposed to use the adhesive on the small device to attach to a spacer, but it wasn't clear which one, and the final link didn't work. I needed to glue the sensed device to the spacers, which seems inelegant but I couldn't figure out another way to get it to stay. (Not to mention that I dropped the tiny sensed device behind a bookcase and needed to fish it out…) I searched the Elgato website for instructions on how to use the spacers to no avail. But - it works now that it's attached.

    Easy Setup

This is incredibly easy to setup and get going. I still took the time to read the quick setup guide to make sure i didn't miss any detail. 1 detail is to use the included risers to make sure that the sensors line up to the suggested markings.

    Exelent product highly recommended.

Bought one and a few weeks later bought another one and haven't had a single issue. The only reason I wouldn't recommend you getting it is if you don't own a Apple TV as the device is a low power Bluetooth device and it needs a Apple TV as a hub to bridge the gap. The device keeps perfect record logs of every time the sensor is triggered, the device also keeps a log of the pings it send out to the hub every 10 minutes in case you want to check for yourself its doing its job.

    Reliable contact sensor

These sensors have worked great for me since day one. They've only missed or mis-reported a door opening once or twice, but overall their accuracy is very high - I'd say over 99%. I mostly interact with them through the iOS 10 Home app and not the Eve app. They are setup to provide push notifications to my devices, and it's nearly flawless. The batteries seem to have a pretty long shelf-life too. After several months of daily use, they still show nearly full battery levels.

Cool idea, not very accurate device.

I purchased this for my new place and was very excited to use it, it was fine the first days but after a week the logs I could see on the app weren't very accurate so I ended up returning it.
