    For car purposes only!

This product has been working for me since Day 1. I've had it for over a year now and it sits in my car and ready for use. I've used it for my Las Vegas trip and back for over 5 hours straight at a time. It's mostly intended for this purpose (in my opinion). It does have static noise when my phone is being charged & listening to music but it works flawlessly once just plugged in for music!

    Works sometimes.. would not recommend

I use this to charge my iphone 7 and have audio headphone jack at the same time. I have to unplug and plug the audio port in several times to make it work. At times the charge stops and then I've got to unplug everything to make it work again.

I got this via Apple in New Zealand. For almost $100 NZD this is a complete ripoff and my third party accessory worked far better.

    Basically a terrible accessory.

    Useless to me

I purchased this adaptor at an Apple Store as it was exactly what I had been looking for. 1) to give a little play when charging my Apple Pencil from my iPad pro & 2) to charge my apple pencil and my iPad pro simultaneously.

I asked the guy who served me a couple of key questions. 1) Does it charge the apple pencil without an additional power source and 2) is it compatible with USB-C fast charging. His answers were yes and yes.

Got home and added it to the dongle collection in my go-bag. Didn't need to use it until a couple of weeks ago. And guess what ... it doesn't charge the Apple Pencil and the dongle does not support usb fast charging.

You used to be able to take what Apple shop staff said to the bank ... after several costly experiences this is just no longer the case.

Colour me disappointed and out $60!

"This accessory is not supported by this iphone"

Bought this to use in my car with a 3.5 mm aux cable and charger since apps like Waze and Pandora seem to drain my battery. My iphone 7 will charge but the audio will not play. When I plug the phone in, after about a minute, the error message "This accessory is not supported by this iphone" appears.

    No data

As another reviewer mentions, this extremely overpriced product does not work with data, only audio and charging. Which basically makes it completely useless to me.

While this may be a restriction of Lightning and/or the MFi programme, it should be made explicit that the audio adapter gets first dibs on the data channel. Mentioning power pass-through isn't enough.

Product only lasts a few months. I am on my 3rd since Nov 2016

I actually blame Apple for a poor design, however this Belkin adapter has gone out twice now. I am on my third replacement. What a pain! The first one, one of the charging sides went out for headphones. Apple replaced it after nearly 3 months of use. Now it has been 3 months since the replacement and the adapter must be shorting out because when plugged in my phone constantly makes the charging noise over and over again.

Apple should not have removed the headphones jack which is why this adapter is necessary for anyone who wants to use headphones and charge their phone at the same time. If Apple located the lightning connection on the top of the phone instead it would likely last longer - either that or they need a 90 degree angle plug to avoid the cords always being at a bad angle.

    Not worth $42

I like this adapter, but i thought when i gave 42 dollars to an adapter that Apple sells it wouldn't break easily and would be worth the money.

Unfortunately it is big and flimsy and ends up breaking and audio / charging goes in and out from time to time after only having for almost 3 months.

You also cannot use this adapter if you want to plug your charger and / or headphones into your computer, nor can you sync anything with this adapter.

I think this is a good concept but should definitely be made better.

    Stopped working after 4 months

Bought two of these. One stopped working after 4 months. It is big bulking an ugly, but I could not really find anything better on-line so ordered a replace unit.

    DO NOT BUY

These are awful!!! I bought them quite recently but now they don't work. The charging portion of the adapter will work but when I add the headphones, my music plays out loud. My headphones aren't broken they work perfectly by themselves but they don't work when I add the adapter to it in order to charge my phone. It's really upsetting cause $40 for an adapter is outrageous but the fact that they aren't working makes me more upset!! I want a refund!!!

    Maybe I'm just unlucky, but...

I won't even get into the fact that this adapter is so expensive, when it should be a given that I can charge my phone and listen to music at the same time. My current complaint is that I have now had TWO of these adapters stop working--and I only bought my 7+ at the end of December 2016. The first one would work intermittently, until one day it just stopped playing music (it did still charge though). I got a replacement for free from Apple (one thing I can never complain about is their customer service!) and it didn't even last me a month before it also stopped playing music (this one also still continued to charge). So I will be paying the Apple Store another visit to hopefully get a THIRD adapter--maybe third time's a charm?

Stopped working after a few weeks

I bought this knowing and not caring about all its limitations as outlined by others reviewers because I just wanted to be able to listen to Audible books and charge my phone at the same time. I wasn't interested in talking and charging at the same time just being able to listen while drifting off to sleep knowing my phone would be fully charged in the morning.

But after just a few weeks it's stopped working. It still charges but when I have headphones in - alone or with a charging cord - the headphones don't work and the iPhone accesses its internal speaker. As you can imagine my bed partner isn't thrilled with the prospect of listening to my stories while he's trying to fall asleep.

I've tried four or five different headphones and they're all the same.

Bottom line, for $40 it's not worth it. Belkin needs to work on their technology a lot more.

Breaks data connectivity via USB cable (known problem)

Yes, you can charge and use audio (phone calls and music) at the same time, but the item's description misleadingly omits to mention that it breaks data connectivity between the iOS device and the USB device that is providing the charge. Therefore while you speak or listen, you do get power, but you can't synchronise the iOS device with iTunes on a PC and the PC can't access any photos in the camera roll. This limitation makes it extremely poor value for money. For this price, I would expect everything to work properly without any limitations or interruptions to existing data connectivity via the USB cable.

Exactly what I was looking for

After coming from a phone with a headphone jack I missed being able to talk on my phone while it charged. The only thing I would have liked would be one lightning port and a 3.5mm jack instead of 2 lightning ports. But all in all it solved my problem.

    Faulty after 2-3 weeks

I bought this item as I didn't think Apple would allow a poor product to be sold by them even though as a rule I never buy Belkin products due to their general poor quality. Sadly after 2-3 weeks the adapter developed a fault where it cut out when it was moved even very slightly and this was both for sound and charging. Spoke to Apple and as usual the customer service has been fantastic, they are sending a replace and I can only hope this one doesn't fail. Be aware because I wasn't when I bought it and subsequently found there are been similar issues in the US see reviews on the US store. This is a smalll adapter being sold at a very high price and I expect it to be of quality and fit for purpose.

    Piece. Of. Garbage.

It charges just fine, but after only 1 month it decided to quit on the whole headphone half of the deal. Can't get the sound to stop cutting out. Can't believe I spent $40 on a glorified 3 inch charger extender. 1 month and the wire is already bunching up near the plug. Normally belkin is a lot better than this. Very dissatisfied with this product.

    Worked for two weeks

Was so happy to find this product as Apple had redesigned the headphone jack and I was unable to charge and listen to my music in the car. It worked pretty well for two weeks and then all of the sudden the phone would not be able to recognize whether it was charging or whether it was suppose to be playing music, very frustrating indeed! The slightest movements would affect the connection. Was able to return to apple before the 30 day return deadline. I am surprised that Apple is selling this subpar product at their stores. More research is needed

    Terrible to Handle

    Pro
Unlike some adapters, it supports making calls.
For a permanent installation it would work fine.

    Con
The Green Acres style spaghetti cabling design.
The pig tail moves the brick out 6".
Adding and removing the power or headset connection with 2 hands is cluttered and hard to handle.
