Broken in less than two months

It worked fine at first, then broke. I've had this for less than two months and it is already broken. It doesn't work with the headphones anymore. Whenever I can get it to work, I have to stay completely still because moving the headphone cable a centimeter will cause this adapter to reject them. For something sold by apple and so expensive, I expected a lot better. Complete waste of $40 DO NOT BUY THIS

    Stiff cable, intermittent connection

I'm experiencing an intermittent connection to the phone. It is exacerbated by the very stiff cable. Positioning this Rube Goldberg contraption could be a problem for others as well. Mind you, I have a Bluetooth audio adapter I like even less (BT is just balky and even more complicated than a simple socket).

Not good if Car Stereo provides power

I have noticed with new phones that my aftermarket stereo was starting to not provide enough juice to the phone to actually charge it while using GPS on the phone too. It would slow down the power drain but not stop it. I got this cable thinking I could plug in to the Stereo for iPod control and also a car charger that runs at 2.4A. Long story short it wont work because it sees that power is coming from the radio and never connects the iPod functionality.

    At last a sensible alternative

From the moment I heard they were doing away with separate earphone port I knew it was going to be a problem for me since I frequently charge at night while listening to a book. I was about to cave and buy the dock, but one of the clerks told me Belkin was coming out with this.

It works just like the connector they make for connecting lightning device to HDMI and charger. This device works perfectly in connecting my 7+ with power and Apple Ear pods. Knowing it's sold at the Apple Store makes me feel confident it won't hurt my device--I bought two!

    Problems with Smart Charging Case

Just to echo a lot of other reviews on here, this device does not function properly if playing music through your iPhone when it is connected to a Smart Charging Case. The music pauses itself every 20-30 seconds.

The device works perfectly when connected to a case-less iPhone and it allows you to charge and listen to music (or have 2 sets of headphones listening at a time). It's also designed really well and looks/feels great - It's just not entirely practical, which is frustrating!

    Works for the average person

I only use this during bedtime. I listen to music and of course charge my phone. I can use either the lightning earphones that came with iPhone 7 or i can use the adapter with then a regular pair of headphones. The buttons work fine(remember to plug in adapter first then the headphones. They cant already be hooked up for some reason). The negative reviews i have seen for this is this doesn't support data transfer. For most of us it isn't a big deal. If you are one of these people, you can always use iTunes on your computer and listen to music. Extra step i suppose, but will work.

    Works as advertised

Works great for me as I want to charge, listen to music, and talk on the phone if needed on my iPhone 7. Purchased at the Apple Store.

Other reviews saying it does not work with 3rd party Headphones are FALSE. I’m using my Sony MDREX38iP/BLK EX Earbud with iPod Remote Control with the Apple 3.5mm to Lightning Converter and I’m able to TALK on the phone fine and USE the CONTROLS. I also tested the Apple In-Ear Headphones with Remote and Mic (ME186LL/A) with the converter and of course that worked too. If this feature did not work, Belkin could be sued for false advertising.

I will confirm that it will NOT pass Data. Message to “Allow This Device To Access Photos and Videos” does not appear (I’m using my computer as the power source, but at least it charges). Also rented a car last week (Nissan Versa) and when plugging into the USB port, it said “device not recognized” and would NOT even charge my phone, so that shows it won’t pass Data (Direct connect to the car did allow music and charging to my iPhone 7). This could be a net positive to prevent access to your phone on public USB ports (used at an Airport and worked fine charging and listening to music too).

Warning if you use Apple Smart Battery Case

Although they tout compatibility on their website and box, this cable is NOT compatible when using the Apple Smart Battery Case. I returned one cable and the second unit fails in the same manner. Works ok otherwise but 1 star considering it specifically states it and they brag in their materials.

    Sort of works

Aside from not working with the Smart Battery case (noted by others), there have been numerous issues with headphones and power working at the same time. I've had to switch which lightning port was being used to get the headphones to work, i've been unable to get off speaker and recognize the port altogether. I have also noted lower audio quality through this connector than in the direct connection Overall somewhat unpredictable.

    Shame on Belkin (and Apple)

Why did Apple have to remove perfectly fine and widely used technology from its flagship, and make me purchase this terrible product?

If you are sensitive to high pitches, do not purchase this product.

This adapter adds horrendous noise to the audio when a charger is connected to it.

It may not be very obvious when you are listening to music, but it's definitely audible when you are listening to quiet recordings, like Audible.

I wish I could return this.

    Works perfectly

I wish apple didn't get rid of the audio connector since it cost me $40 with this Belkin device. However it is well made and works exactly as described. I use it with the google maps GPS. My car does not have bluetooth so I use the car stereo's aux feature while charging the phone as the gps drains the battery pretty quickly. This set up worked perfectly with previous iPhones, and with this Belkin device it now works perfectly with the iPhone 7. It always amazes me that people write negative reviews because the device doesn't work for functions for which it was not designed or intended. This is a great device.

    Best thing for the 7

Very useful for the 7 and 7 plus. I can listen to music, podcast, talk(with headphones) and charge my phone all at the same time. Worth the money. I ordered on Tues and got it on Wed the very next day!

Does not work with Personal Hotspot or USB picture access

When using this cable is it still not possible to use a Headset and the Personal Hotspot to be connected.

This cable does not allow to transfer pictures while using a headset either.

Very disappointed with the single connector on my iPhone 7 Plus. This cable only solve the charge and speak/listen on headset.

    Charge and headphones

Product works perfectly. I tested it with apple lightning earbuds, iphone 6 earbuds with the dongle that came with my iphone 7, and headphones, as well as with a variety of chargers. Microphone and headphone buttons worked. It can only be used for power and audio, however, and will not pass through other devices, so you can't use it when syncing with a computer.

Does what it says on the tin

Allows the user of an iPhone 7/+ to charge an iPhone, and, with a Lightning to 3.5mm adapter, play music at the same time. Does not work as a splitter for two headphone adapters or two power adapters. I don't believe that you can sync or use other Lightning accessories with it (no HDMI adapter, Camera Connection Kit, etc.). Audio data is sent digitally to the 3.5mm adapter, so this dongle does not affect audio quality compared to the 3.5mm adapter by itself. This adapter increases current consumption, if you use a cheap charger with this and a 7+, the phone may not charge even if it did just fine without the adapter in-line.

    Best Quality Sound

I bought this product together with Belkin mini audio cable to use with my iPhone 7 Plus in my car. The sound quality was very clear and superb. Loved it. I wish they also come in black because many car dashboards are in black or grey. It will also complement the color of iPhone in black color.

    Perfect Solution

I listen to music when I am at work, but I was getting home at the end of the day with a 10% battery. This is a perfect solution because it allows me to listen to my music using the lightning earphones and charge it at the same time. It is kind of expensive, but it solves a problem and it is cheaper than the airpods (which I can't afford).

There are two big use cases this adapter does not support:

    1. This adapter does not work with Apple's Smart Battery Case. You must remove the case before the adapter will function properly.

    2. This adapter does not pass data through to your laptop. It's no longer possible to develop iPhone applications or sync your iPhone while listening to music on your iPhone at the same time.

These two use cases were previously supported when the iPhone had a 3.5 mm headphone jack.

It's also worth pointing out that this adapter does not function as a headphone splitter, even though it logically makes sense to support that functionality on something that appears to be a splitter.
