    Expensive and it shakes!

    • Written by NICHOLAS H from Surbiton

This display is not cheap and my pain pet peeve is that it shakes. Using it in a work environment where I have fellow colleagues on adjacent desks, it rocks back and forth if a desk is given the slightest nudge and I mean the slightest! None of our other, far cheaper, displays, have this problem. Something this expensive should have been tested in real-world environments. There are far better displays out there for cheaper prices.

Not good if constantly on the go

    • Written by Jay D from New York

IF you are someone who is always on the GO and is constantly plugging in and unplugging this monitor don't get it. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE GO PLUGGING AND UNPLUGGING THIS MONITOR.

If your macbook or apple product sits home all day every day then yes its perfect for that use. if you are always taking meetings daily and in and out of the office every day. This will not suffice. the USB-C connection will go bad and the monitor will stop working. Considering there is only 1 USB-C video port the other 3 won't work and you will have a monitor that is only good for charging your macbook.

    Great display quality....Absolute rubbish hardware!

    • Written by Pierre V from Carlton

Had this product for 6 months and I must admit the screen quality is pretty amazing...However, when it comes to the actual hardware I think LG has dropped the ball. I've had constant flickering issues with sections of the display and for the price point they charge should definitely not be happening.

I'm confused why Apple still stock this product?

I'm sorry I bought this monitor. I feel lied to and misled.

    • Written by Robert M from Toronto

I bought two of these monitors. Working with my Mac, they work very well, with some odd limitations. For example, you cannot stretch a window across both monitors. But otherwise they seem to do the job they're meant to. But ONLY with a Mac!

These monitors only work with Mac, they do not work with any Windows computer! If you have a Windows machine from work, for example, and want to have your Mac hooked up to one monitor, and your work PC hooked up to the other, you can't do it. I don't know why. There are no Windows drivers for this monitor. Windows does not detect the monitors when you're plugged in. Believe it or not, LG, there are still some people who work in both Mac and Windows worlds.

I feel lied to and misled by LG. It never even occurred to me that anyone would make a monitor that would only work with one computer ecosystem, so I didn't even think to check on this before purchasing. Now it's too late for me to return them. There is nothing on neither the Apple product page nor the LG product page that explicitly states that this monitor will only work with Mac and will not work with Windows, which I think it should, given that it's really very unusual for a monitor to only work with one kind of computer. It's a lie of omission, which is still a lie.

So if you work in both Mac and Windows, don't even bother with these monitors. Don't buy them. I'm going to sell these monitors and buy monitors that work with both ecosystems. And, I'm even going to buy something non-LG because I'm so annoyed that they lied through omission.

    Absolutely Appalling—Avoid

    • Written by Richard J from London

Monitor has had numerous issues since day one, including:

    - Poor brightness and colour uniformity
    - Going to sleep and not waking up
    - Strange artefacts on screen
    - Webcam stopped working

When the webcam stopped working the screen was taken by LG for repair in August 2018.

First time it came back with damaged bevels, sent back to LG.

Second time it was literally smashed to pieces, a £1,200 monitor.

It's now April 2019 and I still don't have a working monitor. LG refuse to replace the monitor and insist it keep being returned for "repair".

Truly appalling and I will never buy another LG product as long as I live.

I strongly urge you and Apple to avoid any future involvement with LG and their products.

Do Not Waste Your Money - Worst Monitor Ever

    • Written by JEFFREY J B from Charlotte

This monitor is a complete waste of $1300. It freezes constantly, jams up the Mac, and I can no longer use this total piece of junk. The reviews about freezing are spot-on. Do Not Buy. I am trying to determine what recourse I may with Apple. Total garbage product. I use this with my laptop which I take to other locations - only this LG 5K creates the issues. TOTAL WASTE!

Screen burn after < 2 years without daily use

    • Written by Nichole L from Portland

I regret this selection. I’ve consistently experienced visual glitches and now the screen is starting to burn in and it hasn’t even been two years. The manufacturer only has a 1 year warranty. There are better ways to spend your money. Find another monitor. Very disappointed that Apple sells such a faulty product.

Reviews are spot on - this is JUNK

    • Written by Lindsey J from Amarillo

This deserves a zero star rating. I read the reviews, I did my homework, I SAW all the bad things people said and I bought it anyway thinking maybe people got a faulty product and that I would be luckier. Nope. My fault and lesson learned. This display goes blank about half the time the computer goes into 'sleep mode' and won't wake up again. At this point, I have to unplug it from the laptop (BRAND NEW MacBook pro with Touch Bar - purchased alongside this monitor) and do a hard restart. Happens at least two times a day but as much as five times a day. Productivity is effected, time wasted and money wasted. I am DISGUSTED with this item and that Apple sells it. SHAME ON YOU APPLE FOR CONTINUING TO SELL THIS ITEM!

    1 star because 0 isn't an option

    • Written by Scott R from Louisville

Why Apple thought it was a good idea to outsource their displays is beyond me. Image retention, crashes when switching from older Thunderbolt displays, horrible aesthetics, volume control issues... total embarrassment to my Mac setup.

Garbage display DEAD after 2 years

    • Written by Mohammed D from Los Angeles

I bought this display when it came out, the wifi issues aside, this thing was great until 2 years later it suddenly died on me. Now I'm out the $1k I spent on this thing. Stay away.

    Wake up issue

    • Written by Tomasz B from Katowice

The problem with this display is that is not waking up. It turn off automatically after some time and not waking up. No even the power button on it. Apple support does not help me. What to do? Should not happened with the £1200 display!

Does not work with newest (2018) MacBook Pro

    • Written by Maxfielfd B from San Francisco

As others have said, this does not work well with Apple's newest hardware.

This monitor interrupts the bluetooth connection from the 2018 MacBook Pro - meaning you can't use a Magic Keyboard and (especially) Magic Mouse reliably with this monitor and the 2018 MBP. Constant lost connections.

Additionally, this monitor causes the MBP to revert to a completely black screen after unplugging - meaning you have to manually restart your laptop each time you disconnect from the monitor.

Overall - Looks great, just doesn't work well.

    Apple Thunderbolt Display MUCH better!

    • Written by Joanna C

I bought this for my home office, but have had nothing but issues. Already been sent to LG twice and came back with same issues. Ended up selling it and getting an Apple Thunderbolt Display. The colors are MUCH crisper on the Apple Thunderbolt Display and it matches my Macbook pro perfectly. Apple quality is the best, have not had any issues - zero with the Thunderbolt Display...And a good value too! Highly recommend going to the Apple Thunderbolt 27" versus the LG 5K...I will never buy another LG product again!

    No Split Screen.

    • Written by Nathan D from Mounds View

LG touts this monitor as supporting split-screen options. I was excited for this. After receiving monitor, I was unable to get this feature to work (via LG Screen Manager). After 45 minutes with LG support, I am told Apple has disabled this feature, "call Apple". Yeah. Other features so far are awesome, but to advertise a feature that's not available is fraudulent. Thus 1 star

    Incredibly Disappointing

    • Written by Joash L from Rowville

Hesitantly purchased this monitor after the Apple consultant assured me that the build and firmware issues highlighted (at length), had been addressed in LG's Revision B model. After only 3 months of owning this display, I encountered an entire column of dead pixels, which was incredibly disappointing as my previous Apple Thunderbolt display had lasted 6 years without issue.

LG support was terrible and a considerable waste of time, fortunately the Apple store I purchased it from issued a full refund within minute and didn't even bother to discuss a replacement.

Will have to wait until Apple release a proprietary monitor again.

Do yourself a favor and buy a Thunderbolt Display instead

    • Written by Kimberly S

I bought a few of these LG 5K displays for the office...They were so terrible with random shut offs and power downs...I ended up just returning all five of them and getting myself some used original Apple genuine Thunderbolt Displays instead. I have never been happier and now all my equipment is genuinely Apple and matches too. Very happy with my thunderbolt display from Apple and bought it on eBay for a fair price.

    Get a Thunderbolt Display instead!

    • Written by Chris D

This is the worst monitor I ever owned. Nothing but problems and issues...I ended up just buying a Thunderbolt Display on eBay for $650 and its pure Apple quality. The LG just kept turning off and on all the time on its own and the color on it wasnt very good. Recommend to get a Thunderbolt Display instead, works great no issues.

i don’t think you should buy this monitor…

    • Written by Todd L from Farmington Hills

i never write reviews, and i LOVE everything apple (i even love apple products with some flaws)… but i bought this monitor and:

    - it was tilted to one side, and could not be straightened, so it was replaced, then…
    - it had a very strong green cast to it, which could not be fixed either by calibration or by a factory reset. the apple business team members who helped me (they’re great!) even checked this same monitor which was set up in the apple store and confirmed the strong green cast.

maybe you don’t care if there’s a green cast (assuming you don't first get one with a permanently-tilted screen) but i do desktop publishing and design and i need a monitor that can represent at least fairly accurate colors… so i bought another brand.

I have never taken the time to review a product on the Apple site before, but am so disgusted by what's transpired, I felt compelled to share my experience with others.... Beyond disappointed with my purchase. This hunk of overpriced junk does not work as described. First, you have to purchase a different cable.... the one that comes in the box does not work properly, and is incapable of transmitting data at the required speeds (20 vs 40gb/s)... this was something that was recommended to me by an Apple Genius when I complained that the screen wasn't working as promised (she also said that it seems to sometimes work better if you use the ports on the right side of the computer, but that doesn't seem to make a difference for me). Second, it works sporadically... at best. Sometimes, you plug in your computer and it works just fine (maybe 2 out of 5 times). 1 out of 5 times, it doesn't work on the first go, and its a game of plugging and unplugging until the monitor decides in wants to work. Probably 2 out of 5 times, there is nothing at all. No image, no connection, no nothing. Restarting the computer *occasionally* makes a difference, but usually not. So 2 out of 5 days/week (I take my laptop to and from work every day) I am wholly unable to use this monitor.... completely unacceptable for a $1300 screen.
