    Beautiful 5K Monitor

    • Written by Sitthipong T from Denver

I'm glad I bought this monitor for my MacBook Pro 2018, after having read all those bad reviews about the issues when it first came out to the consumer market. It's so beautiful, the image, colors, pixel density, etc. I don't have a single issue with the monitor, not even backlight bleeding, perhaps I'm lucky? It truly plug and play with my MacBook Pro, just use a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 cable. My monitor was made in Jan 2019 (901 serial no.) with the little square icon on the box and the back of the display. I believe it means the display has been properly shielded and fixed from the Wi-Fi interference issues when it first came out. It has the latest firmware version from LG, works perfectly fine with my MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave. I bought an additional 3-year premium warranty service and support with LG just in case, since I'm planning to use it for at least 3 years.

    This monitor is insane.

    • Written by Jordan G from Mississauga

This is a gorgeous monitor that perfectly fits my workflow.
    1. Screen quality, brightness, colours are insane and matches the colours and contrast of the Retina display.
    2. Adjustable stand is perfect for raising above my MacBook Pro screen while I use the keyboard & trackpad.
    3. Speakers are crazy loud, webcam is decent.
    4. One-cable connection that simultaneously charges my MacBook is perfect for a clean setup.
    5. Large 27 inch size eliminates the need for multiple monitors, for me personally.

This is a very, very expensive monitor. But the fact that weeks later I am still noticeably impressed by it is fantastic. Happened to be perfect for me.

    After a Year of Use

    • Written by Nelson A from Simi Valley

Now that I have used this monitor daily for the past year I wanted to share my experiences. I read so many negative reviews that I almost skipped this purchase. But I trusted that Apple would not continue to sell a POS and that a later version likely had the kinks worked out. In all my time with this product I have never experienced any of the failings reported earlier. It has performed flawlessly and the 5K screen is a delight to use every day. It's the perfect accompaniment to my 2017 MBP.

    Wonderful Display

    • Written by John B from WAUKESHA

I purchased a new Mac mini, and this display looks as good at my home as it did at the apple store. One word of warning, a Mac mini will not take a 2nd monitor that uses a Thunderbot input. the 2nd monitor must use an HDMI. But this display itself is terrific!

    Love it

    • Written by Josh S from Franklin

I love this monitor. The clarity, brightness, and resolution are quite excellent. The speakers are clear and loud enough for streaming. It's nice to be able to power my MacBook Pro from the monitor. I was worried I'd have to take up two Thunderbolt ports on the MacBook, so this was a pleasant surprise. Even better, I can plug three other Thunderbolt accessories to the back of the monitor instead of attaching them to my MacBook. I haven't used the webcam yet, but it's nice to know it's there. Highly recommended! Expensive, but so far I feel that it was worth the investment.

I don't get all the negative reviews -- this with latest Macbook Pro 13inch

    • Written by Martin L from Medford

Works great. Great resolution. Great features.

Did not realize at the time that this comes with built-in camera and speakers, so Webex works really great (as long as your network allows it). Can't say enough positive about this monitor.

I connect via USB-C cable to Macbook Pro 13-inch (bought 2019), disconnect, etc. All works well.

    Love it!

    • Written by Peter C from Markham

I was hesitant after reading all the older negative reviews. I connected this 27” to the 2016 MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar via the BlackMagic eGPU. Colours are vivid and very bright. No dead pixels. Solid base. I set my brightness to around 70%. My Apple Time Capsule sits next to the monitor and it works just fine, no interference! Upscaling from Netflix and iTunes is seamless. Love the built-in camera and its loud and crystal clear stereo speakers. Volume is very loud even at 4. It comes fully assembled and it’s plug and play. I was using mine in 2 minutes! No other monitors will even come close!

    Thunderbolt 3 with 3 USB-C Ports Only

    • Written by Barry K from CANADA

The problem with this display is that the additional ports are USB-C. What's needed on this monitor are three Thunderbolt 3 ports.
When working with Thunderbolt 3 you need more Thunderbolt 3 ports. Even a USB 3 splitter running through a Thunderbolt 3 port gets better speed! Has anyone actually tested these units?

It works great with my 2018 15' MacBook Pro

    • Written by Daniel R from Vancouver

Is this monitor the best looking monitor out there..? No, it's not. Is the actual screen amazing...? Yes it is. It's a beautiful 5K monitor that connects with thunderbolt 3, and it works amazingly. I took it out of the box, plugged it in and bam, it worked. Nothing else needed. I edit 4K footage (currently editing a feature film) and this monitor is fantastic for my needs. It's expensive for sure. Im impressed enough with it that I have not returned it and am actually buying a 2nd one for a better setup. I want my products to function at a high level. If the design isn't always pretty whatever. Im not buying to impress anyone. Im buying for function.

It Works Great - Make Sure You Update the Firmware

    • Written by Wesley M from Portland

This monitor works perfectly. I've now purchased 2 with no issues.

I read all of the old reviews. Maybe it had issues before, but as recommended by others I updated the software as soon as it came in. With a newer maxed out MBP 15" with USB-C, everything works fine. As of now with the latest updates, I've never experienced any issues. They may have resolved all of the old problems people have.

    Amazing and beautiful. Perfect.

    • Written by Paul C from Albuquerque

This monitor is gorgeous. It has all the fit and finish of an Apple product and you can tell Apple worked closely with LG here to produce a great product. The resolution is outstanding. The single cable USB-C connection to my MacBook Pro is awesome. This screen connects and responds faster than the HDMI that I am used to. I bought this mainly to have the USB-C expansion ports. The built-in mic and camera for video conferencing is just icing on the cake. I am a full-time programmer and spend my career in front of screens. This is the best, the sharpest, the most functional I've ever used, by far.

    Works great

    • Written by Peter M from MOntreal

Not sure why all the bad reviews. Unboxed, plugged into my MacBook Pro, works just fine. Insanely crisp text, love this being a graphic designer. There are clearly more colors visible. 4K video looks insanely good. Running this monitor with another 4K monitor. 2 wires, MacBook in clamshelll mode, wireless keyboard and mouse. A thing of beauty. Thick top bezel a bit different looking but I like it. The base is nice and heavy. Love that I can adjust the height. No more starting up at my iMac which puts extra strain on the eyes.

Take the Poor Reviews With a Grain of Salt

    • Written by David U from Denver

This monitor is gorgeous! I have the newer 27MD5KB-B ("business line" model with the three year warranty, not purchased from Apple), and it works flawlessly with my 13" 2018 TB Macbook Pro (Mojave 10.14.1). Connects reliably everytime, and the display resolution, brightness, contrast and quality is as good as the 5k iMac I have at home, with slightly less reflection. Speakers aren't quite as good as those in the Apple TB display this replaced, but they're fine for conference calls and music while working. The camera is very high resolution (1080) and works perfectly too. Keyboard volume and brightness controls work seamlessly on the monitor. Granted the aesthetics of the monitor aren't quite as cool as Apple's products, but it looks better in person than in pictures. It has a nice matte black finish and the bezels don't seem as big as you might think. This monitor may have had a tough start, but it's working great for me!

Took Mine Mac Mini to Another Level

    • Written by Domingo M from South Elgin

Own a Late 2014 Mac mini using a Asus 2540x1440 display. Hated the picture quality and sound. Forcing to invest on a pair of external speakers, taking desk space.

During the spring, while visiting the Santa Barbara Apple Store, noticed a LG UltraFine 5K Display being hooked up to a Mac mini and was very surprise. Asked if the Mac mini will be able to drive the LG. The answer was, "We'll see." Man, did it drive it. Even the Apple tech was surprised at the picture quality and sound coming out of this set-up. Right there and then, my thoughts was, "I want one!"

Well, it took a few months, but I finally have it and it meets all my needs and expectations. Outstanding display.

The picture and sounds are both outstanding. The speed of moving data onto my external hard devices are just unbelievable. That's using the Thunderbolt 2 that the Mac mini provides. Can't wait for the new 2018 Mac mini with Thunderbolt 3 that HOPEFULLY will be coming out next week!

Honestly, if the new 2018 Mac mini is NOT a giant leap, I may just keep my $$$ and stay with this set-up because how satisfied I am.

Best display I have ever used

    • Written by Philip R from Bethesda

So many bad reviews I thought I would share. Bought this to work with my 2018 15" MBP. I am mostly running MATLAB for data analysis and software development, and Office365 for scientific papers and presentations. So far works nearly flawlessly. Occasionally a flash when the signal to the monitor seems to be momentarily interrupted - an off/on. I attribute this to software processing on the MBP and/or the Blackmagic eGPU. Absolutely the best image quality I have ever had. Expensive, yes, but I am much more productive using this ONE monitor alone than I am with 15" Retina display or 2016 iMac + Dell 4K. I actually see things in graphs and images I never saw before. For me at least worth the cost because of increased productivity.

Picked it up from the Apple Store today. I have the latest 15" MBP, the maxed-out version with i9 and 32gb ram. Pulled it out of the box, plugged it in...my computer was sleeping and it immediately snapped on and has worked absolutely flawlessly in every way ever since. Beautiful picture and extremely simple to use for its primary function, which is what I expect from any Apple product so I'm glad this monitor from LG delivers there.

I'm a software developer by trade and I just had a very productive 8 hour work session on this monitor. I did not experience any drop-outs, interference (I have some high-end audio gear right near the monitor and no issues so far), or light/dark problems like others mentioned (reading documentation on a light background and swiping over to my IDE with a dark background, it works as expected).

I've gone through so many different monitors--the Apple Thunderbolt monitor, a pair of Dell 4K 24" monitors, and a BenQ 32" design monitor. I already love this one more than any of those because it's the perfect size and resolution and fits in really well as an addition to the 2018 MBP.

I'm guessing LG worked out whatever issues the other people here were dealing with, or maybe it wasn't the monitor...

Too many bad reviews. Bought mine end of Jan 2018 for my 2017 MBP with touch bar. LOVE THIS DISPLAY. I have not experienced any of the issues I see in bad reviews. I use mine heavily as a professional photographer. Great crisp colour. All good!

    The best

    • Written by Sebastian S from Jacksonville

I am not sure why all the negative reviews, I can only attribute it to user error or other hardware issues not related to the monitor. I have it hooked up to my Mac Pro. It's amazing compared to the Apple branded monitor. The picture is so unreal. I hooked it up to my MacBook Pro, no issues there neither. I am running the latest version of MacOS. If you want a the best monitor on the market, don't hesitate in buying this monitor. Don't pay no attention to the negative reviews. You have to tweak the monitor, you have to set it as your primary screen, etc..it's not a monitor issues, it's a user issue. So rest assured, this monitor is the tops of the tops.....but do yourself a favor, buy it open box somewhere and save a few hundred....great monitor. In fact, I am searching for my 2nd one currently....
