    Would not buy again

    • Written by KIRILL Z from Bellevue

The screen works really well when it works, but it flakes out more often that I'd like it too. Best feature - it's a matt display, so you get less glare and more true colors. Worst feature - it randomly stops working and would not reconnect to my laptop.. then magically starts again a few hours later. It's rather unreliable for how extensive it is.

One of the few misfires from (kind of) Apple

    • Written by David D from Newtown

I've been working with this LG 5K monitor for a while. I was not too keen on its aesthetics as others have said, but it is functional. The screen looks good, although the bezel is a bit of an embarrassment. I find the built-in webcam very suboptimal, colors are off, and it's not as vibrant as the camera that I use in my MBP or other Apple devices (including a separate iMac).

    Expensive and it shakes!

    • Written by NICHOLAS H from Surbiton

This display is not cheap and my pain pet peeve is that it shakes. Using it in a work environment where I have fellow colleagues on adjacent desks, it rocks back and forth if a desk is given the slightest nudge and I mean the slightest! None of our other, far cheaper, displays, have this problem. Something this expensive should have been tested in real-world environments. There are far better displays out there for cheaper prices.

    Beautiful 5K Monitor

    • Written by Sitthipong T from Denver

I'm glad I bought this monitor for my MacBook Pro 2018, after having read all those bad reviews about the issues when it first came out to the consumer market. It's so beautiful, the image, colors, pixel density, etc. I don't have a single issue with the monitor, not even backlight bleeding, perhaps I'm lucky? It truly plug and play with my MacBook Pro, just use a USB-C Thunderbolt 3 cable. My monitor was made in Jan 2019 (901 serial no.) with the little square icon on the box and the back of the display. I believe it means the display has been properly shielded and fixed from the Wi-Fi interference issues when it first came out. It has the latest firmware version from LG, works perfectly fine with my MacBook Pro running MacOS Mojave. I bought an additional 3-year premium warranty service and support with LG just in case, since I'm planning to use it for at least 3 years.

    This monitor is insane.

    • Written by Jordan G from Mississauga

This is a gorgeous monitor that perfectly fits my workflow.
    1. Screen quality, brightness, colours are insane and matches the colours and contrast of the Retina display.
    2. Adjustable stand is perfect for raising above my MacBook Pro screen while I use the keyboard & trackpad.
    3. Speakers are crazy loud, webcam is decent.
    4. One-cable connection that simultaneously charges my MacBook is perfect for a clean setup.
    5. Large 27 inch size eliminates the need for multiple monitors, for me personally.

This is a very, very expensive monitor. But the fact that weeks later I am still noticeably impressed by it is fantastic. Happened to be perfect for me.

Not good if constantly on the go

    • Written by Jay D from New York

IF you are someone who is always on the GO and is constantly plugging in and unplugging this monitor don't get it. I REPEAT DO NOT BUY IF YOU ARE ALWAYS ON THE GO PLUGGING AND UNPLUGGING THIS MONITOR.

If your macbook or apple product sits home all day every day then yes its perfect for that use. if you are always taking meetings daily and in and out of the office every day. This will not suffice. the USB-C connection will go bad and the monitor will stop working. Considering there is only 1 USB-C video port the other 3 won't work and you will have a monitor that is only good for charging your macbook.

    Great display quality....Absolute rubbish hardware!

    • Written by Pierre V from Carlton

Had this product for 6 months and I must admit the screen quality is pretty amazing...However, when it comes to the actual hardware I think LG has dropped the ball. I've had constant flickering issues with sections of the display and for the price point they charge should definitely not be happening.

I'm confused why Apple still stock this product?

I'm sorry I bought this monitor. I feel lied to and misled.

    • Written by Robert M from Toronto

I bought two of these monitors. Working with my Mac, they work very well, with some odd limitations. For example, you cannot stretch a window across both monitors. But otherwise they seem to do the job they're meant to. But ONLY with a Mac!

These monitors only work with Mac, they do not work with any Windows computer! If you have a Windows machine from work, for example, and want to have your Mac hooked up to one monitor, and your work PC hooked up to the other, you can't do it. I don't know why. There are no Windows drivers for this monitor. Windows does not detect the monitors when you're plugged in. Believe it or not, LG, there are still some people who work in both Mac and Windows worlds.

I feel lied to and misled by LG. It never even occurred to me that anyone would make a monitor that would only work with one computer ecosystem, so I didn't even think to check on this before purchasing. Now it's too late for me to return them. There is nothing on neither the Apple product page nor the LG product page that explicitly states that this monitor will only work with Mac and will not work with Windows, which I think it should, given that it's really very unusual for a monitor to only work with one kind of computer. It's a lie of omission, which is still a lie.

So if you work in both Mac and Windows, don't even bother with these monitors. Don't buy them. I'm going to sell these monitors and buy monitors that work with both ecosystems. And, I'm even going to buy something non-LG because I'm so annoyed that they lied through omission.

    2018 Macbook Air fan overheats

    Absolutely Appalling—Avoid

    • Written by Richard J from London

Monitor has had numerous issues since day one, including:

    - Poor brightness and colour uniformity
    - Going to sleep and not waking up
    - Strange artefacts on screen
    - Webcam stopped working

When the webcam stopped working the screen was taken by LG for repair in August 2018.

First time it came back with damaged bevels, sent back to LG.

Second time it was literally smashed to pieces, a £1,200 monitor.

It's now April 2019 and I still don't have a working monitor. LG refuse to replace the monitor and insist it keep being returned for "repair".

Truly appalling and I will never buy another LG product as long as I live.

I strongly urge you and Apple to avoid any future involvement with LG and their products.

    Amazing monitor. Terrible quality control.

    • Written by Michael S from Sydney

As title says, the monitor its self is an amazing piece of hardware, its got a gorgeous display, 5K resolution, great colour accuracy and a peak of 500 nits. The best part is, it charges your laptop, it "just works" when you plug it in, you can control brightness from software and the speakers are REALLY good for being built in. The design is plain and boring, it could look a lot better if they Apple get involved with the design, while it is boring - it is practical and functional (full adjust, height, pivot, mounting points etc)

That being said, its plagued with issues. I had severe ghosting issues and had to take it to LG for a month to get it back, I'm now experiencing really bad flickering on the bottom right corner (apparently thats normal when its cold???) - never had any of these issue with all the several monitors I've owned in the past, you expect better especially at this price point. There is also the entire "keep it away from WiFi" because the display starts to flicker around due to the interference.

I also had to struggle a lot to find an external graphics enclosure that works with this monitor due to its TB3 ridge thing, the only one that would let me is the one apple sells (go figure), which is a terrible terrible investment since the graphics card is built in, its over-priced and its under-performing for today's time.

All in all, if I could go back and time and have the option to purchase this monitor, I'd probably avoid it and just get a USB-C 27" LG 4K monitor for 1/3 the price which charges my laptop and will have Freesync, also doesn't restrict me on the eGPU I can collect nor would I have to put up with the many issue this monitor brings.

    After a Year of Use

    • Written by Nelson A from Simi Valley

Now that I have used this monitor daily for the past year I wanted to share my experiences. I read so many negative reviews that I almost skipped this purchase. But I trusted that Apple would not continue to sell a POS and that a later version likely had the kinks worked out. In all my time with this product I have never experienced any of the failings reported earlier. It has performed flawlessly and the 5K screen is a delight to use every day. It's the perfect accompaniment to my 2017 MBP.

Do Not Waste Your Money - Worst Monitor Ever

    • Written by JEFFREY J B from Charlotte

This monitor is a complete waste of $1300. It freezes constantly, jams up the Mac, and I can no longer use this total piece of junk. The reviews about freezing are spot-on. Do Not Buy. I am trying to determine what recourse I may with Apple. Total garbage product. I use this with my laptop which I take to other locations - only this LG 5K creates the issues. TOTAL WASTE!

Screen burn after < 2 years without daily use

    • Written by Nichole L from Portland

I regret this selection. I’ve consistently experienced visual glitches and now the screen is starting to burn in and it hasn’t even been two years. The manufacturer only has a 1 year warranty. There are better ways to spend your money. Find another monitor. Very disappointed that Apple sells such a faulty product.

Reviews are spot on - this is JUNK

    • Written by Lindsey J from Amarillo

This deserves a zero star rating. I read the reviews, I did my homework, I SAW all the bad things people said and I bought it anyway thinking maybe people got a faulty product and that I would be luckier. Nope. My fault and lesson learned. This display goes blank about half the time the computer goes into 'sleep mode' and won't wake up again. At this point, I have to unplug it from the laptop (BRAND NEW MacBook pro with Touch Bar - purchased alongside this monitor) and do a hard restart. Happens at least two times a day but as much as five times a day. Productivity is effected, time wasted and money wasted. I am DISGUSTED with this item and that Apple sells it. SHAME ON YOU APPLE FOR CONTINUING TO SELL THIS ITEM!

    Wonderful Display

    • Written by John B from WAUKESHA

I purchased a new Mac mini, and this display looks as good at my home as it did at the apple store. One word of warning, a Mac mini will not take a 2nd monitor that uses a Thunderbot input. the 2nd monitor must use an HDMI. But this display itself is terrific!

    Love it

    • Written by Josh S from Franklin

I love this monitor. The clarity, brightness, and resolution are quite excellent. The speakers are clear and loud enough for streaming. It's nice to be able to power my MacBook Pro from the monitor. I was worried I'd have to take up two Thunderbolt ports on the MacBook, so this was a pleasant surprise. Even better, I can plug three other Thunderbolt accessories to the back of the monitor instead of attaching them to my MacBook. I haven't used the webcam yet, but it's nice to know it's there. Highly recommended! Expensive, but so far I feel that it was worth the investment.
