    Better than I expected.

    • Written by Lee H from Marina del Rey

Pros: The image quality and color gamut is fantastic; it looks every bit as good as a retina iMac. I was not happy about having to go to a generic black plastic LG display after so many years with beautiful aluminum Cinema and Thunderbolt displays. I still don't like the plastic, but it has a better build quality than I had anticipated. I really like the adjustable height and smaller, non-glossy bezel. It feels like it takes up less room than a Thunderbolt Display. So far the connection and ports have been reliable.

Cons: There is noticeable lag when changing the brightness from a USB-connected keyboard. The connection between the stand and display is not particularly strong, so the display really wobbles a lot if anything shakes your desk. I may wall-mount it to prevent that. I also wish it had an opening in the back of the stand to help organize cables, the way the Apple displays did.

Overall, this is a better display than I had anticipated, with only a few small caveats. Highly recommended.

    Outstanding display!

    • Written by John S from Marana

I use this display with my 15" MacBook Pro. The image quality and brightness are outstanding. It fits perfectly into my working environment. I have the display oriented well above so that I can see all but the bottom inch of the display with the MacBook screen visible. I use the MacBook keyboard and trackpad as I have grown to like both in very short order.

While the speakers are good, they are not as good as my external speakers so I have one more cable (audio) connected to the MacBook than I would like. I would have preferred an Ethernet interface to be included and perhaps a USB 3.0 hub to be included, I accomplished this with an Aukey external hub with Ethernet.

My use case consists of developing Windows software in a Parallels virtual machine and photography with LightRoom. Photoshop, etc. The high resolution display is excellent for both clean, easy-to-read text and inspectinging photos. Most of my windows are opened own the LG using multiple desktops. When the display is unplugged, they drop onto the MacBook display and are easy to rearrange.

Very nice display and well-integrated ito Sierra!

Great Display but 5K on MacOS Bit of a Mirage

    • Written by Michael M from HUNTSVILLE

Bought a brand new MacBook Pro and 2-LG 5K monitors and they are great but find that MacOS does a poor job of supporting high resolution monitors what compared to Win 10. Many items like the menu bar and much of the text in Apple apps like Safari have a fixed and unchangeable font size while Win 10 has much greater flexibility buy providing a global sizing option for desktop items like the menu bar and text. To get the full 5K out of the monitors requires terminal command line tricks and use of the option key when selecting scaled in the display system preferences - see discussion on Apple Communities called "Why is Support for for Hi-resolution Monitors So Poor?" .

    Excellet MBP companion

    • Written by joe K from Chicago

I purchased this to go with a new 15" 2016 MBP. The speakers are incredible, the resolution is immaculate, and it extends upward perfectly above the MBP screen. I chose to lose the dock and magic keyboard so I wasn't gorilla arming the touch bar, which meant the screen would sit centered and raised above the laptop. The screen is glossy, but doesn't have issues reflecting sunlight since it's so bright. Pushing power, audio, and video through a single TB3 cable is clean AF.

    Stunning Display

    • Written by Justin N from Frisco

I'm only 2 days into owning the 27" version; so, if anything changes, I'll update my review.

Right now, I'm beyond thrilled. This is the best display I have ever owned. It's basically a giant Retina display. It is so clear that I could even go without my glasses if I needed to.

Setup was a breeze. Just take it out of the box, plug into power, and connect the USB-C cable to the Mac and the the display and you're done. Access to the USB-C ports is so simple compared to monitors that try to hide them behind an access cover.

I do have one complaint. I've been unable to register my purchase because of the location of the serial number. Apparently it's hidden behind the display stand connection of the back of the display. The model number is also placed at the bottom of the display; so that you have to lay it down flat to get a picture of the very fine print label.

Unfortunately, I have to use 2 different MBPs for work; so, I thought I had to stick with my old Dell display for one computer and the UltraFine for my other. However, I just discovered that I can use a Thunderbolt adapter for my older MBP to also connect to this display. Now, I can just switch out which MBP is attached to my display. It won't be super convenient, but it will be better than having 2 monitors on my desk.

Right now, I think you can't go wrong with this display. It's very pricey, but worth it!

I bought the display in March 2017 and have been using it with MBP 15 mid 2014 (connected via a conversion cable USB-C to Thunderbolt) without a glitch ever since.

Beautiful display. Works perfectly. No issues whatsoever!

    • Written by Dmitriy G from Rockville

Bought this monitor despite the bad reviews since the RF issues have been fixed and the bulk of the bad reviews spawned from that. I've been using it for about a week now with zero issues. I have it connected to my 2016 MacBook Pro 13" with a touchbar via the thunderbolt cable that came with the monitor. No wake up issues, works great as a hub ( I don't care about the slower speeds ), fantastic image quality and the brightness is simply amazing. 500 nits just like my retina MBP display so the transition is seamless. I am glad that I pulled the trigger and didn't let the bad reviews dissuade me. I will say that the people that applaud the speakers have not heard decent speakers. Sure, they are better than my MacBook Pro speakers, but I wouldn't call these speakers good (loud doesn't equal good...) I am using Audio Engine A2+ hooked up to the back of the monitor and they sound amazing.

I will make this short and sweet. I have used many high performing monitors in my day and especially as of recent as I was deciding on what I should use for my primary monitor. I just purchased the UltraFine 5K today and calibrated it with DisplayCAL. The results? 100% sRGB (I've never seen 100% before). 87.5% Adobe RGB. 99.8% DCI P3. This monitor is INCREDIBLE. Ignore the bad reviews. I'm in love at how accurate and uniform this display is. THANK YOU APPLE AND LG!

A Great Monitor with a Couple Quirks

    • Written by Clifton L from Thatcher

I have experienced some minor issues similar to the ones mentioned in other reviews (the monitor is too loud at just 2 sound bars, the computer doesn't always wake reliably in clamshell mode, etc.). But this is still a great monitor. The picture quality is stunning and having only a single USB-C plug to my 15" MacBook Pro is really convenient. I like it and recommend it.

    Works just fine, looks fantastic

    • Written by Scott G from Claremont

I've been using this display with my 15" MacBook Pro w/Touch Bar for over a month now, and have had no problems with it. The screen display is gorgeous. As to the aesthetics of the overall display, I don't have a problem at all, mainly because in regular use it is almost impossible to see the bezel and the stand (all matte black basically disappears, dominated by the vivid screen). All I see is a massive, beautiful screen.

I have had what I suspect is a minor display-related issue. If I launch LG's Screen Manager, my charting program (Deltagraph) suddenly becomes very crash-prone. But the LG app is only necessary if I want to split the screen in weird ways, which I'm not interested in doing. Normal use does not require the Screen Manager.

This 5K display is a worthy addition to my laptop!

The display is excellent. Adjusts up and down as well as tilting a little each way. The speakers are decent and the connection to my new MacBook Pro is seamless. Looks like LG and Apple worked very closely on this.

I have a brand new MacBook Pro and this monitor. It's the best set up. The display is truly the best quality I have ever seen. I love working on this display. The screen finish has an anti-glare coating that really helps in my agency as there are lots of lights around.

I have used this display for 2.5 months and I have had no problems. I absolutely love it and have changed my entire setup because of it. I used to use the laptop as my primary screen. Now I use this LG as my primary screen. Do yourself a favor and go check out the monitor for yourself because it is better than people make it out to be.

A monitor that lives up to it's name.

    • Written by Chad S from San Antonio

The Ultrafine 5k monitor from LG has ultrafine resolution. Ever since I got the first Macbook pro with a retina display, I've been waiting for an external retina monitor to go with it. This is it, and it looks great when pair with a 2016 Macbook pro (the only computers that can drive the monitor at 5k).

While the cost may seem high at first, it is offset by multiple factors for me. 1) It saved me $100 from having to buy an extra USB-C charger for my macbook. 2) The speakers sound great. 3) It has an integrated 1080p camera and mic for facetime. 4) USB-C Hubs are non-existant or expensive and the monitor has one built in. That being said, with thumb-drives needing to stay USB Type-A for now, it does make sense to pair this monitor with an external USB Type-A 3.1 G1 or 3.0 Hub. Make sure you get one with a long enough cable to reach the desk or place comfortable for your use. I bought a USB-C to USB-A adapter and USB 3.0 Hub with an long USB cable.

    > Cable Matters USB 3.1 Type C (USB-C) to Type A (USB-A) Adapter in Black 6 Inches
    > Joiot 4-Port Mini Compact USB 3.0 Data Hub with 3.3ft USB 3.0 Cable [Update VIA VL813 Chipset], No Charging

I have had no issues with the monitor crashing my laptop.

The monitor looks better than it does in the Apple stores in San Antonio and Austin. Through Jan-Feb of 2017 they have the monitor being driven by a Mac Mini and Mac Pro, neither of which can drive the monitor at 5k due to the lack of thunderbolt 3 ports. If you want to demo the monitor at 5k and your apple store has a similar setup. Ask for a business person to help you view the monitor with a 2016 Macbook Pro. I brought mine into the store to do so. The employee had to open a Belkin Thunderbolt 3 cable to hook it up since the monitors are hooked up the the other computers via Thunderbolt 2 cables.

I Must Have Got the Good One

    • Written by Marty P from Lake Oswego

I was pretty scared reading everything in the press and in the reviews here after I ordered this display to use with my new MBP. But apparently, I got the good one. ;-)

I'm sitting right next to a WiFi router and am seeing no flicker, no black screen, no signs of interference at all.

My MBP goes in and out of sleep plug into, plugged and unplugged from the display without issue.

Sound is great. Controls work great. Hinge and adjustment post feel solid yet easy to adjust and hold firm.

The outer case design is beautiful and solid too. It's plastic but solid plastic with a bead-blasted texture to it. Looks as great from behind as it does up front.

And, of course, the screen image is amazing - Cinema Display level amazing, and beyond. Colors. Pixels. It's pure digital joy.

    Count me as 100% satisfied!

Just got lg 27inch 5k monitor and its just great. Picture is amazing. Using with two 30inch cinema displays. Makes the cinema displays look very dated and not very bright.

    1. Connected to Mac Pro 2013. IT DOES allow 5k resolution! Just hold option key down when looking at the resolution options and you CAN select 5k. Text is too small to read but yes you can use 5k!!!

    2. No flickering. Router is far away.
    3. Connection to mac pro is using a usb c to thunderbolt 2m cable. 90 dollars in cabling.
    4. No sleep issues.
    5. Very bright.
    6. Great price for a 5k.
    7. There is NO reason not to get this monitor.
