    Very problematic Display

    This Display has caused me nothing but grief. I got the revised one sold in Apple Stores and its having all kinds of problems. I have never had so many problems with a display, ever. Especially one that Apple endorses.

    From random power on/off/blackness, to USB connectivity problems, to just LG bad support. I wish Apple would start making displays again because the Thunderbolt Display was the best. This one is horrid.

    Worst monitor ever plagued with PROBLEMS!

    Ouch. I have been an avid Apple user and enthusiast for years, but after dealing with this monitor - WOW, belongs in the trash. I purchased the "newly revised" model with a better cable, and had same issues as before.

    For reference, I am using this on a brand new Macbook Pro with touch bar.

    Randomly turns off and on, speakers don't work, and the quality is terrible. My old Thunderbolt Display was better quality than this so called 5K display. The hues are off and too much color bleed and green. IF you can even get this thing to even work. It's a 50/50 shot whether it turns on or not, depends on its mood.

    Very Disappointed!

    I have a MBP 15" late 2016 1 of these monitors. The problem is it is an unusable combination. I need to write documents that reference other documents to being able have both documents side by side is critical, i.e. cannot see both on the MBP’s monitor. Each time I plug in this monitor it is hit or miss if it will come on or if my machine will crash. Even if I can get it working it is only a matter of time before my machine crashes and I must start over. This was a horrible waste of my time and money. I have reached out to LG and have not heard anything back to date.

    Annoying technical issues

    The picture is great, however the display has some major connectivity issues with my MacBook Pro (late 2016) with File Vault turned on.

    - It crashes macOS when unplugged in clamshell mode. You can usually avoid this by opening it before unplugging the display.
    - The display won't turn on. You might have to plug/unplug the cable a few times until the display turns on. Make sure you're logged into macOS as well.
    - The sound volume is not calibrated. The range is 1 to 16 and 1 is too quite and 2 is way too loud. 3 is unbearable. You can kind of use option + shift to use go in 0.25 steps.

    I don't recommend buying this display, until Apple resolves these issues.

    Randomly flickers and crashes my Macbook Pro

    Great monitor, terrible integration with the latest MBP 2016

    I am using the monitor with my brand new MBP 2016 15" with the AMD GPU 460. The display is fantastic. This is definitely as good as I expected it to be. But the interaction with the MBP is REALLY REALLY BAD. Even after the latest upgrade to Sierra 10.12.3 the MBP crashes every time it tries to come back from sleep mode after disconnecting and connecting the MBP via the supplied TB3 cable. In addition to that any external USB accessory (mouse, keyboard, etc.) attached to the monitor is not recognized after the MBP has been unplugged and re-pluggeed back. I am very disappointed with this solution, I hope Apple and LG will fix this via FW update very soon.

    Why Apple thought it was a good idea to outsource their displays is beyond me. Image retention, crashes when switching from older Thunderbolt displays, horrible aesthetics, volume control issues... total embarrassment to my Mac setup.

    Do yourself a favor and buy a Thunderbolt Display instead

    I bought a few of these LG 5K displays for the office...They were so terrible with random shut offs and power downs...I ended up just returning all five of them and getting myself some used original Apple genuine Thunderbolt Displays instead. I have never been happier and now all my equipment is genuinely Apple and matches too. Very happy with my thunderbolt display from Apple and bought it on eBay for a fair price.

    i don’t think you should buy this monitor…

    i never write reviews, and i LOVE everything apple (i even love apple products with some flaws)… but i bought this monitor and:

    - it was tilted to one side, and could not be straightened, so it was replaced, then…
    - it had a very strong green cast to it, which could not be fixed either by calibration or by a factory reset. the apple business team members who helped me (they’re great!) even checked this same monitor which was set up in the apple store and confirmed the strong green cast.

    maybe you don’t care if there’s a green cast (assuming you don't first get one with a permanently-tilted screen) but i do desktop publishing and design and i need a monitor that can represent at least fairly accurate colors… so i bought another brand.

    Stay away from this display!

    This LG 5k Display has major problems and I cannot recommend it, the quality build quality and overall quality of the picture is NOT good and has problems staying on. For example, yesterday at work we left it on for 24 hours and came back and the screen was black. This was not a screen saver or energy efficient mode, we called LG and they said they are having problems with this model doing that and have to send us a new one. This is the 5th one we bought for the office and had nothing but problems.

    Defective Display, buyer beware

    I bought this display just a month ago and goodness, it has problems. The problems start by everything I plug in USB, does not recognize, to random screen blankness. Sometimes, at random, the screen will just go black. I called LG and they have no solution. This is not an Apple branded display, yet sold by Apple, so I trusted that it would be good. It clearly, clearly, has issues.

    The screen itself is nice, color is good, but it is a headache owning it.

    Reasons not to buy this monitor

    1) Every time I unplug my mac book pro with touch bar from the monitor while in clam shell mode it causes my mac book to crash.

    2) sometimes when using the product the USB ports will just shut off

    3) sometimes when using this monitor the screen will just turn off

    4) if the mac book pro with touch bar while in clam shell mode comes into contact with the bare metal it will put the mac book to sleep. This means you have to put some paper to something in between the monitor and the macbook so they do not touch.

    Not a good monitor! BEWARE!

    This display has been horrendous from the moment I bought it at the Apple store. From power on to power off problems to just downright horrible LG support, I stuck with it through the recall, and still even I got it back it has problems.

    Apple needs to go back to making their own displays and not have a 3rd party do them. Ended up buying a Thunderbolt Display on eBay and my Macbook Pro 2016 loves it! No issues at all!

    absolutely terrible display do not recommend!

    Apple makes fantastic equipment, but this one is made by LG and it shows. It has some serious problems, especially since LG recalled it immediately after it was released. The cable shielding problem, and more...It has random reboots and problems with my 2017 Macbook Pro and I tried my old Thunderbolt Display and all is well. I returned it and decided to keep my old Thunderbolt because it was so much better. Picture quality was actually worse on the LG than my Thunderbolt.

    This monitor will NOT work properly with your MAC period. Eventually you will be sending it back. I have gone through 2 of them already and it actually burned out th video care on my brand new MacBook Pro as well and had to get that replaced as well. It is great monitor if it stays on without flickering and crashingg your MacBook. I want a true Mac Monitor. Shame on you LG for not testing this out properly. Avoid th headaches and don't buy it.

    Unreliable, unusable, unstable, plagued with serious problems

    These displays cause random kernel panics on my macbook pro... even after a reboot both displays are still flickering... unusable... usually require several SMC resets to get back to normal. The USB hubs are also defective, every time I reconnect the monitors I have to unplug all of the peripherals, then plug them back in, before they will be recognized. No exceptions. Sometimes they also suffer from a brightness bug, where reconnecting the display sets the brightness set to 0 and it is nearly impossible to see the system preferences window you need to bring it back up. I have 2 of these monitors, both suffer from the exact same problems using the latest software. Do not buy.

    Monitor "flicker" next to network devices

    The monitor doesn't work next to any network device (router, access point, etc). The display start a random "flicker" and the only solution is to move the monitor or the network device away from each other. Very bad engeniring project!

    Garbage display DEAD after 2 years

    I bought this display when it came out, the wifi issues aside, this thing was great until 2 years later it suddenly died on me. Now I'm out the $1k I spent on this thing. Stay away.
