Reminds me of an Apple Product

    • Written by David D from North Bay

Installation was easy even though my furnace setup wasn't very straightforward. This unit simply works - just like an Apple product does. Features are solid and integration with Apple Homekit is flawless. Very impressed so far. Looking forward to Winter where I can realize more savings when we are out of the house during the day.

Broke their own product via auto-update.

    • Written by Randall R from Cupertino

I would give a higher score save for the fact that the first thing ecobee did was break their own product via an auto-update.

Setup went fine, connected to the network, was only able to connect to the 2.4ghz band instead of the 5. Later I check the network and it won't connect no matter what I do. After spending hours on this, support erroneously blames my ISP and says I need to change my security settings to WPA2. For whatever reason my router doesn't want to use WPA2 on the 2.4ghz band. And of course, support won't help you with your router.

This wouldn't be an issue if the ecobee supported the 5Ghz band, or the the connection options the device itself claims. But as it stands, they sold me a product that worked and immediately broke it. Even if I update my network and get it working, who knows when next they'll break it again.

    Great Thermostat, Questionable HomeKit usage..

    • Written by Dale B from Diberville

The Ecobee3 works as well as, if not better than, any other thermostat out there. IT is not as simple as some of the other thermostats to setup and does take a little more time to configure. On the other hand... There is a support site that is loaded with setup guides and configurations for different situations and equipment.
The room sensors are what sets this apart from the other products and work well within the setup. Sensors are very easy to register and are accurate as far as I can tell. The only downfall is that if you have more than 7 sensors connected, including the ecobee3 tstat, HomeKit will not work. It will tell you that HomeKit could not connect although the ecobee3 shows as connected. If you drop it to under 7 sensors then it works beautifully. As soon as you add a 7th sensor then all the devices will be shown as unreachable. According to Ecobee support this is a known issue and they are working on a resolve as of 02/08/2018 under support ticket number 695686. I would definitely recommend this product but with an Asterisk.

Not as good as Nest, but gets the job done

    • Written by Stefan F from Lohman

Just installed the ecobee3 lite at my parents house for Christmas since my mom is trying to get into Apple HomeKit. I can’t say I am totally impressed with ecobee.
While the setup was fairly straightforward, the quality is nowhere near Nest’s current line of thermostats. The display on the 3 lite is meh at best. It’s very washed out and very low resolution. The images on their website and here on Apple’s site make it look like the screen has very deep blacks, somewhat like an OLED screen... not even close. The backlight on the 3 lite is so washed out that it look almost blue. My Nest at home looks much sharper and seems much more vibrant over the 3 lite.
If having a 100% HomeKit enabled house is your thing, then it will absolutely integrate with the HomeKit app. But if you don’t plan on using more than one or two smart devices at home, the the Nest is the winner.

    Ecobee 3 Without Equal

    • Written by John F from Tucson

This review is for the Ecobee 3 smart thermostat. Installation is easy and seamless, just follow the instruction in written format or the videos. I have emailed three questions of the Support department and they have gotten back to me within 12 hours or less, even on the weekend. The quantity of schedules that you can create are mind blowing, 32, seriously!!. I am crazy about the feature that adds more than one temperature sensor for the thermostat. Since you don't live in your hallway (where most thermostats are located) why should you get the room temperature input from only the hallway. Literally add as many sensors as you want and the thermostat averages them for room temp input. No other unit does that! The phone application is flawless and performs correctly each time you use it. The connection to Apple HomeKit was seamless. You can select to run the fan only for variable durations each hour to de-stratify the air in the house. The sporting capability alone will blow your mind. There are so many awesome features THAT WORK, it would be impossible to comment on them all. If you are serious about controlling you home heating and cooling and associated energy consumption, this thermostat is for you.
