    Does not work as advertised

    • Written by Brian H from Eagle

I am a small business owner and purchased two of these items to take advantage of their advertised mirroring capability to keep my data is two separate locations while their internal software took care of ensuring a complete data set in both locations. The mirroring process is to load your data on one unit and then start and finish the mirroring process locally after which the units can then be kept in separate locations. I had approximately 1.5 TB of data to mirror but the mirroring process failed. I re-attempted multiple times with the same result. As each time took at least a day to attempt and then report that it had failed, I kept the units past the time when the Apple Store would take the units as a return (14-days). I have asked for a refund from Promise with a report of no expectations of a refund (only an exchange of a possibly faulty unit). I have spent way too much time attempting to set this system up and am not at all pleased with the product. Buyer beware!

    Frustrating beyond belief

    • Written by Malcolm C from Cupertino

Such a tantalizing product. Apparently if it works well it's the best personal cloud storage available. Unfortunately, I endured endless frustration with nothing ever quite working right (firmware update, user registration, resetting, connection from Mac). Based on my experience I can't recommend this product; it should Just Work—it doesn't.

Work okay at local wifi but always unable to remote login via iMac in

    • Written by Miford L

This drive locates at home and It's okay to access with WiFi but always not able to login in through internet. It's odd to prompt a message with "incorrect password" or "incorrect email" when all input is absolutely true.

Best Network Storage Drive for Home Use

    • Written by Sanjeev M from Chicago

I have been on a long search to find a way to store all the family photos and videos from the last ten years in a manner that is protected from loss (RAID setup with two drives), easy to sort and access and easy to share with outside friends and family.

I started with Western Digital MyBook Mirror. The setup was hard and confusing and it was horrifically slow. I then got a QNAP drive T251A, which worked well, but hard for non-IT people to use.

I finally got this DUO today. It literally took 2 minutes to setup from my iPhone. The MAC also setup in one minute and the drive was then just available in both the app and the connected server list as a mounted drive. Super easy to get going.

The transfer speed are excellent and there is no slow-down from iPhone app when you start a video or look at a picture, it just starts. The app is intuitive and easy to use.

I have noticed that the facial recognition component just works out of the box. I am not sure how the geotagging works and unfortunately the instruction manual does not address either of these features.

The airplay functionality is built-in well to stream to the tv. Even though I have airplay, it would be nice if they updated their app to work on the Apple TV also.

Overall, best NAS I have tried for home use.
