    Bad quality product

    • Written by Michael W from Washington

Purchased this device after a recommendation of an apple store staff and without checking any reviews myself. That was a mistake.

    The Pros:
    - Looks good

    The Cons:
    - USB-C cable needs to be attached firmly, and slips out of port easily.
    - Noisy when 2 or more power intensive devices are attached
    - reduces output when all ports are used.
    - sticker on back fell off immediately.

Warning: USB-C input suspect; see reviews; NOT for iPad Pro 2018

    • Written by Paul K from New York

Other reviews note the same problem I had...

I just reported this to Apple Support. My new 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 does not probably charge when I plug the cable it came with directly into the USB-C input on this Native Union SMART Hub Bridge Charger. When I also use the AC adapter that came with my iPad Pro, and plug THAT into the Native Union and plug my iPad Pro cable into this adapter, it's fine -- the charge holds steady and the device charges at a sufficient rate. So, this may just be a very expensive adapter with three USB A inputs and two 3-prong AC inputs.

I just spoke to two Jasons at Apple Support. One is a senior tech person. What I learned is, even though this is an Apple-certified product, because it pre-dates the new 2018 iPad Pros, it has not been certified for that product. It could not have been, actually, since it pre-dates it.

This could be a problem, and I hope Apple tests it thoroughly and pulls it from its stores and Web site if it is not 100% up to snuff. I am also contacting Native Union directly so they are aware of this problem.

    Won't work internationally

    • Written by Corwin L from Portland

The specs fail to mention that this only operates with 110V AC, not a more universal 100-240V AC. This means it cannot be used overseas, where the voltage is more commonly 220V. I would have not purchased this if I had known.

Not a bridge, not a hub, not a real MBP charger

    • Written by Christopher M from Chevy Chase

This only acts as a trickle charger for MacBooks. The physical Apple stores sell this as an alternative to the standard wall charger, however it is ONLY effective as a trickle charger... WHEN THE MacBook is not in use. You cannot run & charge your MacBook with this device.

1 star because as many others have pointed out: it is not a hub. It is not a bridge. It is also not a real charger.

Per their website, but not on the physical packaging: "It does have a MACBOOK CHARGING LIMITATION: USB-C Port will NOT re-charge a Macbook or Macbook Pro when the device is in use. Will allow slow charging of a Macbook or Macbook Pro while asleep and will reduce battery drain while in use." - Native Union

Buyer Beware! The USB-C feature does not work!

    • Written by sarah W from CHARLOTTE

This will not charge your MacBook Pro with touch bar with the USB-C cord. I had purchased one and plugged it into my MacBook Pro with touch bar using my USB-C cord. It continually charged and then would drop the charge. So my MacBook basically chimed that it was charging then chimed that it was disconnected from its power source over and over. To better explain, it chimed on then chimed off, chimed on then chimed off, etc.

I thought I had a faulty charger, and called Apple Customer Care, and they replaced it free of charge, but the replacement Native Hub does the same thing.

I use it for the 2 extra outlet plugs and the USB-A ports, and so far those work fine. I did read on the reviews that the USB-C charging port will charge the MacBook while the MacBook is off or in sleep mode. However, I did try to charge my MacBook when I was not using it and had the laptop closed - it still did not work.

I am disappointed. This is a very attractive charging station for multiple devices. Sadly, the USB-C port is no good. This is frustrating since it is the main reason I purchased this item.

Be aware of what you are buying

Not sure why anyone would buy a "charger" that doesn't charge when you are using your laptop.

    enough said.

Lovely device: But It's Neither a Hub nor a Bridge

    • Written by Drew W from Englewood Cliffs

If you are looking for a device to supply power to your devices, look no further. HOWEVER, If you are looking for an actual hub or a bridge--as in the name of the product-- you will not find it here. Bridges and hubs pass data from port to port. For Native Union, the term "bridge' means "Bridging power" according to their chat representative Ritchie. So, depending on what you expect from the firm's marketing, you will either receive a delightful product of exceptional build quality or a deceptive product that in no way lives up its title and wastes your time. I have rated it one star since I am clearly in the latter camp.
