This is a great keyboard, but do your maintenance!

This keyboard works wonderfully, but you do have to perform routine maintenance periodically in order for it to continue to work well. It is very responsive and actuators are made for years and years of use. I have had this keyboard for 4 years and it is still going strong with no signs of giving up anytime soon. But I do the maintenance to keep it working well.

I know a few people who had problems with this keyboard version and the first question I would ask them is: How long has it been since you vacuumed out the keyboard. their answer: "huh.." Real Answer: You should vacuum out the keyboard every 3 months at a minimum. Take a small hand vac (with the computer turned off) and run it across the keys (not pressing the keys down) Reason: there are small cracks where dust, small hairs, etc. will fall into (just like any other keyboard) and you don't realize how much accumulates over the weeks but if you never vac your keyboard then the gunk just accumulates eventually being forced further and further into the mechanism until keys start to stick and then get stuck in an up or down position where pressing they key does nothing. question #2: Have you ever spilled water, soda, beer, etc on your keyboard. answer "yeah, but I wiped it off and plugged it in and it worked fine." duh, it worked fine because the liquid hadn't made it's ways to the mechanism. By continuing to use the keyboard you worked the liquid down further into the mechanism. the liquid then dried (if it was beer or soda) and left a compound that was detrimental to the mechanism and over time corroded that area of the components. Spill something on the keyboard? Flip it over immediately, place it on a towel and let it sit where there is good airflow for 24 hours (no less!) so the liquid can dry without you working it into the keyboard components. if you spilled too much or didn't turn it over immediately this may have no effect, but it's your best chance at saving the component. My computer won't recognize my keyboard. Is it plugged directly into the mac or into a hub. answer: a hub. if it's not a powered hub or doesn't have fully usb compliant hardware then it may not communicate all data through to the mac resulting in it being unidentifiable.

Exceptional Keybaord - Well Worth 49

This usb keyboard is fantastic! I wish my iMac Retina had included this in the box instead of the BT keyboard which is tiny and cramped to type on, and totally nonfunctional to use all day for real work.

Its surprisingly affordable for an apple add-on at 49. Great keys, great typing angle, and all metal! The keypad really is a necessary feature in my opinion. Of course since this keyboard in USB is has a cable (yikes!) and it seems this one should be backlit but its not.

Even the solar keyboard from logitech is not backlit -- whats up with that?

Ideally, Apple should allow an exchange with a new iMac - the tiny wireless one for this one imo.

very nice, and it works fine on a KVM too

There have been reviews claiming that this keyboard does not work with a KVM switch. I have an iogear 4 port KVM (model GCS634U) with a mac, windows, and linux system. The keyboard switches ports just fine and it works with windows just fine. Since this keyboard does not have a "Scroll Lock" you do have to redefine the "port toggle" to be the control key (see the KVM documentation). You may also need to plug the keyboard directly into the PC so windows can detect it and install the HID drivers, after that's done you can connect it to the KVM.

Gold Star for Apple, keyboard is excellent.

Layout is a little different from earlier versions, but I adjusted quickly and find this beats earlier boards I've used over 30 years using Apple keyboards and compatibles.
    Great job Apple!
I bought two for my Dual G5 and 17" MB Pro. Both function uniformly same.

    Great Keyboard

This keyboard has good performance, and I have actually noticed that I type more accurately, and faster. For $49.00, this keyboard is a really good choice.

This Keyboard > More Expense Magic Keyboard

I cannot believe this keyboard is half the price of the wireless one that has less keys and is less user friendly. I love that the keys are springy and raised up higher than the magic keyboard. It makes it so much easier and faster to type, especially if you have long nails like myself. I struggled to type on the magic keyboard but it is truly a breeze and pleasure on this keyboard. The keyboard is also physically raised up higher versus the magic keyboard, in my opinion making it much easier on your wrists and more effective for quick typing, which is what a keyboard's function is. This keyboard is sturdy and reliable, unlike the magic keyboard that loved to disconnect at times or act strange where I would have to disconnect the bluetooth and reconnect it again.

The only con would be if you have a small work space, the keyboard is pretty long, and competes for space with my mouse and trackpad.

ALL IN ALL, I love this keyboard, I never thought I'd genuinely enjoy a keyboard until I got my hands on this one. Highly recommend it.

    I love this keyboard!!!!

5 stars all the way!!! I love this thing. Looks great, I can type just as fast on it as other keyboards as I do look at the keyboard fairly often. It's easy to clean, quiet, thin, works perfectly...what else do you need?? I like how quiet it is, no more CLAKKITY CLAKKITY, it's just a simple click now. The one real thing I dont like is that they took the apple sign off of the "command" key and replaced it with the "command" word. Best keybaord I have ever used. Great job APPLE!!!!

    Awesome

This is the best keyboard in the world. The nice responsive feel, the crisp clean look, and the thin style of the apple keyboard make any mac person without one, jelous.

    Aluminum + Apple = Yummy

I bought the keyboard, admittedly, because it matches my Apple Cinema Display and PowerMac really well (in other words, its sexy). But it feels sexy too. Trust me, if you can type, you will love this even more! I can type 75 to 100WPM and this keyboard keeps up no problem.

I also have no problem syncing my iPod shuffle on it. Haven't tried my full size iPod yet - I've read that it doesn't work. I have a feeling it will. :)

    amazing

This is by far the easiest and most well designed keyboards I have ever worked on. I love the design, having a nerve disorder in my right arm and hand, and designing 14 hours a day. It has made an immense difference in the short time that I have been using it. A MUST HAVE for anyone that spends s ton of time on the mac, which is probably 90% of designers.

    Amazing...

This keyboard is really good. It works like a charm. I use it with my MacBook, and the sleek design almost makes me forget I'm using anything. My only comment is that this keyboard does not work with PC's, at least the number pad. It deserves 5 stars... Yea for Apple!

"I command things to be awesome... awesome keyboard!"

I fell in love with this keyboard the minute at first sight. It's got all I had been looking for... small, simple, soft keys... The option to plug in other USB devices is great. I use it to charge my mobile headset via USB.

If you're using windows XP as I am, you can install SharpKeys (RandyRants.com) to assign windows specific keys to the keyboard. For example, you can use it to bind NumLock to the Clear key on the keyboard. Not sure if there's a version for Vista, yet.

    Unexpectedly Great

I write a ton on my Mac and because of this, no doubt, I have regular pain in my back and my wrist. When I first saw this keyboard, I thought it was a mistake; I saw another move whereby Apple makes things tiny and thin, and thought it was perhaps a liability on a keyboard.

My girlfriend bought it, and I used it for a day. The light touch, quiet sound, and even the improvement in speed I feel in my typing meant that the next day I was visiting the Apple Store. I love this keyboard!

Who knew a keyboard could be so lovely?

MMM..love this new keyboard. I only bought it b/c the original keyboard got ruined. I was not expecting something so pleasing. Typing on it is extremely smooth, especially compared to the old keyboard. The special keys for iTunes/iMovie, dashboard, etc. are very handy. The USB ports are also a very useful considering my Mac only has 3 ports. My hands will not be cramping as much when writing lengthy papers. Apple did a super job!

    Slick And Functional!

as a programmer i spend a lot of time jamming on my board - i'm thrilled by the softer keys, the built in expose and iTunes function keys (although i do need my F12 regularly ;)).
I've got the new keyboard paired with the last generation imac - still looks good altogether, ha.
Love the slim profile, makes my desk feel less cluttered, which in turns frees my mind a bit more to focus on the work at hand.
    excellent product!

Ultimate keybaord for hunt and peck typists

If you're a two finger typist this is the best keyboard you've ever used, period. No long travel keys and exactly the right amount of tactile response. You can seriously fly typing on this thing - way way way faster than the previous white gen of the Apple keyboard. This keyboard rocks!
