    Doesn't work with data projectors

This adaptor is very disappointing. I found that it works fine with some small (20 inch) Samsung monitors that have a VGA input but it doesn't work with any of the data projectors I have in my university department so I can't use my new MacBook Pro (unipart aluminium case) for Powerpoint presentations, which was one of the main reasons for buying the laptop. The problem seems to be that the laptop senses the data projector ( and scales down the laptop display to VGA) but the projector doesn't detect the laptop (and so fails to display the image from the laptop screen). My old MacBookPro (Intel core duo) works fine with all data projectors (using the DVI to VGA adaptor) and I'm now in the silly position of having to use the old laptop for all travel (conferences etc) plus teaching in the university. The wonderful looking new MacBook Pro has to stay at home. Apple needs to issue a firmware fix or a better adaptor as soon as possible.

    Very poor

I've got one of these to connect my Macbook Pro to my Samsung TV but as with everyone else, the TV doesn't recognise the output from the laptop. (It works find with my Dell laptop and Windows XP).

The result is that the adapter is useless.

    Buyer Beware

I recently purchased this from the apple store to be used when I give lectures. On the very first attempt to use it the picture flickered a bit but was otherwise OK. When the class ends I walk over to my second lecture and plug in my computer and the adapter and NOTHING happens. I try again and the screen on my mac goes dark then nothing. I have all my students walk back over to the last calssroom and the thing still doesn't work. My first lecture of the year was a real stinker as a result. Very disappointed. I spent the extra $20 because I thought I was buying quality... I was wrong. Go buy a generic knockoff. At least when it breaks you only spent $6

Just as unreliable as the off brand dongles

This particular dongle for Display Port/Thunderbolt is very quirky. It will work fine for our School's projectors for a brief period. We have bought dozens over the past 6 years for our schools and have also bought some from off brand sites. These brand names will all work initially but often give out at the same rate as the off brand dongles (3-6 months). Trying another dongle from a (big online) brand name competitor that has high reviews so fingers crossed.

As we don't require going into high resolution projector displays XGA/WXGA is the most common, or lower resolution so the off brand ones are just as good (aka break as often) as the name brand dongle. If going into a higher resolution display, this my be the best choice.

Works fine on a wide range of equipment

I've used my adapter to connect my MacBook Pro to a range of monitors, televisions and projectors (made by Dell, Sharp, Sanyo, Toshiba, Panasonic and others) and have had nothing but total success on every occasion.

    Worked straight out the box

Worked np with a panasonic TH-42PX80BA 42" plasma.

Those that are having problems check you mac is set at the correct resolution for the LCD/Plasma that you are using.

    Pioneer TV

Worked perfectly out of the box, directly connected to pdp-pioneer TVs series 508 XD VGA and worked easily (even the right LCD TV was detected in display settings with all possible settings, colors, ...) a breeze.

    Problems, be careful!

This adapter has problems. Maybe the apadter or maybe the macbooks. When I plug it to my toshiba 23 TFT display it doesnt recognize the right res. and when it does (primary display) it flashes to black (very weird) from time to time: useless for a business presentation. Waiting for Apple's answer. First see the forums, before buying:
Do not buy it until a fix.

    Thanks

    Excellent bit of kit

This works perfectly with a Panasonic TX-32LZD81 freesat LCD TV. Great for catching up TV programs or just large screen surfing. Don't make the mistake of getting the larger Display port connection, this fits the old Macbook and some desktops.

    Extremely poor

This product is not at the high standard you come to expect from apple.

I am unable to connect my brand new Macbook to my Samsung TV as it would seem apple did not properly test this product before releasing it.

Do NOT buy this product if you have a Samsung TV...

    Bad mini display port?

I use a mini display to vga adapter to use a Proxima Projector. Only use it 2 time a year for watching movies outdoors. I was having problems with the proxima not connecting so bought another new adapter (both are apple brand). Had same problem with new adapter but it seems that the port may be bad because I can get it to connect by strategically adjusting the mini display cable "just right" in the port. Before you start messing with PRAM and the like, you may have a physical issue as I do...

    Problem with Samsung TV

I bought this from apple shop and delivered to my home a few days later and found it not working with my 40" Samsung HDTV (while my other notebook with built in vga port worked without problem). Called them up, they sent a courier to pick up the device and refunded to my credit card. Excellent service, Poor Product. Not sure if the new firmware update solved this problem, but until now, I cannot enjoy using macbook on my 40" TV via vga port in the year of 2009~

Works well but won't mirror when lid is shut

I bought the Mini Display Port so that I could use my computer screen instead of the Macbook screen however when I put the screen on mirror and close the lid on the Macbook the LG screen turns off. I'm very disappointed with this product and is of little use because my Macbook stops sending the display signal. As dual screen it works well.

    Produces excellent quality display

On the Road, I needed to connect my Mac Mini to a VGA only LG monitor and this adapter did the trick perfectly. The Monitor display was immaculate and looked even better than the 1920 X 1080 it showed in the display settings. I will be looking after it well for my future trips! Well worth the money for the hassle saved.

    Don't bother it is junk

I have a Lenovo ThinkVision L220xwC display that has been working perfectly for a number of connected to a Windows laptop using the VGA connector and a MacBook Pro connected with DVI. I am replacing the Windows laptop with a brand new Mac Mini and I bought this Mini DisplayPort to VGA Adapter so I could connect either the Mac Mini or MacBook Pro via VGA (and the other via DVI).

When the Mac Mini is connected to the display via the VGA adapter, the display frequently flickers, gets wavy lines and it basically unusable. When I switched the VGA adapter to the MacBook Pro it still happened but wasn't as bad - at least initially. Then the display resolution dropped from 1920x1200 to 1440x900 and made it unusable again.

The product is not fit to the task.

    Excellent quality

Works perfectly with my Macbook Pro and any VGA compatible device such as projectors and TVs! I can now hook up my Macbook Pro with my TV and watch movies together with my family. What an excellent product!

    Working great!

Use this with MBA Mid2012 on Mountain Lion. No problem connecting with with LG LED TV 24". At first it did not detect the external display. But after restarting the MBA, it just worked! Still exploring to connect it with various model of LED TVs and projectors.
