Ditto to All the Bad Reviews!

I've had my PowerMac for less than a year and the cord stopped working. This is *really* annoying because I don't live in a country where there is an Apple store. I have to have one shipped at great risk and cost from the US. Also, I am buying 2 ($160!) both because it seems like their average lifespan is less than 1 year and because on my old Mac laptop the power cord died and Apple discontinued the cords for that computer rendering it as useless as a paperweight!

I "love" my Mac but this is ridiculous.

    MagSafe adapter.

Horrible.... is the definition for this adapter-at $80 I am up to my third one, they do not last long at all....very disappointing.

    Total Piece of Junk!

I am a big fan of all of Apple"s products, except this one. I had to replace the old mag safe charger on my last Mac because it was defective and recalled. Now I have to replace the new style adapter that supposedly fixed the problem, but this time I had to pay the apple tax. The newer style DOES NOT fix the problem, the wires still come apart in the same exact spot as the older, recalled mag safe adapter but this time you can't see the exposed wires. I was even told by a Mac genius that they had never had a problem with the new style, but I choose to believe that's not true based on the 800 or so bad reviews for this product. I have to go before my new charger breaks as well, thanks Apple...I really wish I could give it less than one star.....

The Fact Is: I only need to replace the connecting portion of the "MagSafe Power Adapter" charger, the part with the magnetic connecter and the cheesy scrawny little cord, the part that can either plug into an outlet by itself or be attached to the heavy duty power cable (part two of this costly "Power Adapter" package), and yet I have to purchase BOTH parts of this two piece EXPENSIVE, yet crucial "accessory" for my MacBook. That is what I say is RIDICULOUS.

The Question Is: What am I going to do with all these useless (yet very durable by contrast) heavy duty power cables that have nothing to connect to because their scrawny corded counterparts were so cheesy that they needed to be replaced many times over?! Does anyone out there have an answer to my query?

I love my mac, and I've had it maybe 1 month more than the 1 year warranty and my charger is completely not working. I'm extremely disappointed that this charger is already broken and I have to pay $80 to get a new one. I'm a college student and I bought a mac because I thought it would last the longest out of everything on the market, I'm hoping nothing else starts going wrong with it.

    Terrible Design

Buying my 3rd charger now, if apple products were priced at the lower end of the market I'd be more understanding. Why put so much time and energy into making beautiful laptops if you can't reliably charge them?!

Terrible Dark Cloud in Otherwise Sunny Mac Sky

This will be our third power cord in less than three years. This is DEFINITELY something Apple should be trying to improve. It is pitiful to see how low quality these adapters are. We are not rough with ours, and it has literally torn up. We have had to rig it for months, and we are now forced to spend the outrageous $79 again, due to the fact that almost every other cord advertised anywhere else comes under harsher reviews than the Apple original. We love our macbook, but this repeated replacement of a key component is more than a hassle. We even calibrated our machine according to the instructions, and we still get less than four hours of charge, rendering us even more dependent on the ill-equipped power cord. A laptop is supposed to be portable. This clunky cord is far from that. Terribly disappointing for an Apple product.

im now about to replace this charger for the third time and ive only had my mac for just over a year now. its becoming worse then the charger i had for my acer that i ended up replacing 5 times. at least i got those chargers for free and didnt have to spend £50 each time. seems stupid to me that such a great laptop can have such a dreadful charger!

    This charger is terrible!!!!

I've had my 13" macbook pro for about 2 years I've had to replace the charger 3 times at $80 bucks a pop. I've had no problems with my computer, but it's too expensive to replace these awful chargers! I don't feel that I treat my charger very roughly, and seeing the other reviews I really do think it's a huge design flaw. I love apple products, but when I have to buy another computer, if the charger design hasn't improved, I will seriously consider going PC.

    not happy

had a magsafe t shape charger that came with my macbook it worked perfectly for 2 and a half years then broke not to bothered because it was in constant use and worked up until then, little bit cheesed off that i had to pay £50 for a new one, evan more cheesed of that the replacement doesn't seem to work unless its in a very specific position, really not happy because im a bit of an apple geek and have never had any problems with any apple products up until now and i really dont understand how they can charge so much for a charger that doesn't seem to work very well

Literally, it sparks every time I plug it into the computer. This time it caused damage because the spark was hot enough to melt the aluminum of the computer and the cord. I just got this computer a week ago.

    Second one bites the dust

I have had two of these chargers in the last year and a half. The second one I was able to get as a replacement without paying for it since my Macbook was still under warrantee at the time. Due to the defect of my first one, I took especially good care of my second adapter... only for it to fail out on me within 6 months. I'm blown away that Mac would go with this design, even if it is more sleek. My boyfriend who owns a 5 year old Mac. His 5-year old charger is still going strong. Explain to me why we pay so much for good design and functionality if the lifetime of the newest innovation is only 1/10 of the previous model.

Cable Slightly Burnt after 18 Months

The tip of the cord was slightly burnt after 18 months that I could even see the wires inside.

The proper handling that I did:
    - I never roll it tightly
    - I almost never overcharge my macbook Pro
    - I never use it for anything other than charging my own macbook.

I wish I could rate it 0.5 star. (0.5 point for the design + 0 for durability).

I've had a Macbook for 5 years. I'm on my FIFTH adapter. The first two shredded right by the magnetic jack and the third and fourth just decided to stop working one day. Now my fifth is also starting to fail. It will only charge my Macbook if it is turned off. I hate that my actual Macbook is a quality computer but the accessories are terrible and in constant need of replacement. I think the longest one of my adapters has made it was the original one that came with my '07 Macbook. The original made it almost two years. Since then each new adapter has died a quicker and quicker death. Awful quality. Mac really needs to figure this out.

These chargers don't last. They are a horrible design... I've had my Macbook pro for almost 2 years and I'm already on my second charger which I'm having trouble with again.

My power cord has gone the same way that some many others have.
It's intermittent in getting power to my laptop after only being a year and a half old.

I phoned Apple and they can't do anything for me. It seems a shame that a company such as Apple can't even offer my a discount on buying a new one. Instead I'm being gouged for 80 dollars for a power cable...

    Expensive and they don't last

I love my macbook, but the power adaptors have been horrible. Thats right ADAPTORS, I have had 3 and they have ALL failed on me. At $80 a piece, it is expensive and annoying. You think Apple, which puts so much pride into its products would NEVER think of putting a faulty product out there; but this power adaptor is the exception to the rule. Apple is so focused on making everything LOOK good they forgot to make it last and work too. Now I have to get my FOURTH adaptor, I paid a arm and a leg for my macbook pro and the costs just keep adding up. I am begging to wonder if Apple even cares about its customers at all, probably not.

    Poor strain relief design

Having to buy my third one because of the poor strain relief design. After a while the cable frays where it connects to the magsafe connector and soon all the magic smoke leaves the circuit and it stops working.

    Amazingly BAD

it all looks nice and everything and worked perfectly for the first 4 months and now i have to buy a new one because it is just cutting out. at least with the T shaped charger, it only broke by the wire ripping and you will see when it is breaking. this one overheats often so just stops and now i have to constantly move it around to work.

anyway looks nice but doesn't work
