    Sadly not durable...

The one that came with my 2011 MBA lasted until 2015...which is pretty good...apart from the fact that the PC laptops charging cables don't seem to have any problem for the same duration of time.

Have to spend an additional 108SGD (?!) just to keep my Macbook functional.... X_X

    Can't complain to much

I purchased my power supply in 2011 and it held up through a deployment and a 15 year old daughter. I agree could be a better design. Cord snapped at main power supply.

This Charger Is Worst Part About Owning a Mac

Like so many others, I wish I could give this product 0 stars. The ultra thin cable tends to fray and if you're lucky it can last up to 1 1/2 years (I mean extremely lucky). Not only does the cable break at the ends, but it also electrocuted my mac once when it was at the end of it's life. I'm lucky my mac still works after that. Stop benefiting from this obvious failure of a charger and fix this for your customers! This is too much trouble for $80.

    Fall on deaf ears??

After all these negative reviews, has Apple made any improvements yet? My 2011 MBP (15 inch) power adapter just died. No sign of it ever powering on again. I'm headed out to buy a new adapter, which costs a FORTUNE if you ask me.

Apple, Apple, Apple... I thought you were better than this.

This has got to be a

I have been through so many power adapters with my macbook pro. The computer has lasted me 7 years but I've had to replace the power adapter nearly every year. THey are a terrible design and make me think that they are built this way to just take more money from us consumers. Ridiculous!

MagUnsafe. The Apple store employee accused my wife of mis-using the cord

Plugging the cord in to charge the laptop should fit within the normal usage for a power cord. My wife barely takes her mbp out of the house and takes the cable out even less. Still we have had 3 of these split due to strain-relief issues. The "genius" bar employee claimed he had never heard of any general issues with these power cords though. The magsafe design is great engineering. The thin cord is aesthetically nice but not very functional and easily becomes a shock/fire hazzard.

Why is the replacement to fix a design flaw $80? Must I pay an apple tax on the repair also?

    Bad design

I went through 3 of the magsafe chargers, each one broke at the same spot. The cable connected to the charger always rips near the base and gets bigger and bigger with the heat.

This could be easly avoidable but it seems the design is intentionally bad, just to make us buy another overpriced charger that again won't last very long.

Adapter too heavy for plug prongs

About an hour ago I bought a new one of these things because the cord for my old adapter frayed.

When I took it out of the box I was sitting down close to an outlet. I plugged my computer in with the adapter and plug without the extension. Within five minutes I noticed my computer was no longer charging. The plug prongs bent under the weight of the adapter, causing the adapter to fall out of the wall outlet.

Love my MacBook for work, but if I'm going to pay $80 for a charger I expect higher quality.

Low quality. Needs to be replaced annually.

I have spent almost as much on replacing power adapters as I would have paid for a brand new mac over the past 8 years. Being extra careful with the corded does extend the life a bit, but regardless it will still split. Make sure you budget $99/year to replace this cable. And Apple, please stop creating low quality products and pretending they're still as good as it use to be.

On to my 4th Power adapter...

That's an extra $300 in frayed/busted power adapters - but do I have a choice?

My Macbook Retina is great. Now if only it ran without electricity.

    Flawed Product

I've gone through 5 magsafe chargers with each one's wire fraying with the white rubber surroundings pealing, wearing and splitting off. Cord fraying apparently isn't covered by Apple HOWEVER Apple Store management must be fully aware of this major problem as every time it has happened, both with and without Apple Care warranty they've replaced it. If you're not under warranty there is a chance they will replace it regardless. GIVE THIS A TRY BEFORE BUYING ANOTHER.

    Shame On Apple!

I've been an Apple user since Macintosh came in a little box shape. I love Macs! But this power adapter cord is just shameful! A company like Apple which is always innovating and updating should be embarrassed that a small equipment part does not live up to the quality standards already set by the company.

    What's WRONG with you????????

    junk

You'd think after all this time, Apple would have Ive design a power adaptor that actually stayed together. Apparently, it must be too good a revenue stream for them to actually fix it. Same thing goes with their iphone/ipad cables.

Hey Apple, while the thin cord may be "nice looking," it's the worst when it comes to quality.

    Disappointment with APPLE!!

The charger have very poor performance and SO EXPENSIVE, at least do something about this problem otherwise you will lose customer APPLE !!!!

    C'mon apple get it together

Zero stars for ignoring all the complaints regarding the poor quality of these cords. A thousand bad reviews should be enough to get a hint that there is an obvious design flaw. $79 is far too much to charge if it is so obviously going to break... again.

    Please help us out

There must be a better way to design better power adapters. Now I have to fork out around $80 to buy a new one. I also have to hear my friends laugh at me while they plug their Microsoft brand laptops with no issues. Come on Apple!

    Terrible Build Quality

Like the other reviews on here, I am about to begrudgingly buy my 3rd charger in 3 years.

The cable quality where the cord connects is shameful, weak and encouraged to fray by actually making use of the pull-out ears to wrap the cord around. Even if you do this loosely eventually the rubber cable shield will perish. Apple are well known for the appalling build quality of their chargers, and the ridiculous price to buy replacements, but I wonder if they are actually taking these reviews on board? I can't see how a reinforced connection would be difficult to implement. It would increase customer satisfaction immeasurably.

1-Star, but even that is generous. If you're reading this review you're probably in the same position as me. The struggle continues. Wake up, Apple.

    Apple Make this Right

This is my third Macbook. All have had multiple power cord issues. Please Apple redesign this cord for reliability.

To be fair Apple did replace last one under warranty. However this is chronic and needs to be addressed.
Simplest solution is a adapter with replaceable cable.

Replaceable cords will keep more power supplies out of the landfills.

    Works great, for me anyways

I read through a lot of the 1 star reviews, and thought I must be the luckiest person in the world. I have 6 of these power bricks of varying power, both Magsafe 1 and 2. I've only had one failure and it was my oldest adapter from 2007. That it's lasted 8 years is more than enough for me. I throw my chargers in my bag and I don't particularly baby them, sometimes I drop them when I'm conference desks so I can plug it in from below. No melting, no fraying, nothing.

I will buy another one to replaced the failed 85W adapter, and it's the only time I needed to do so (after 8 years...!!).

    Horrible Quality

For a well respected company that is suppose to produce quality material they sure have done a terrible job making this cord. The exterior rubber coating started to disintegrate in less than a year, and this is in ideal cord conditions. It literally sits on my desk and rarely gets moved, but they rubber just started sloughing off. Very unhappy Apple!!
