    Awful waste of money you have to spend.

    Shorted out in six months. Of course it's on a deadline week. Why must this cord be made like such cheap cr*p? I'd rather pay more for a better cord that won't short out in less than a year.

    Lawsuit waiting to happen

    Own a macbook retina display. About 2 months ago I found the power cord had melted and looked burnt. The cord is normally on a tile floor, take really good care of my stuff so wasn't quite sure what had happened. Luckily I have apple care so the cord was replaced. Apple tried to charge me a 75.00 fee until I returned the power cord but I told them nope, not gonna happen. They sent the new cord anyway but no return package for the burnt up cord. Maybe a month later I saw the same little holes indicating the cord was getting ready to fail again. Contacted apple care, who again replaced the cord, big fight to get them to send it without charging me the 75. fee until I returned the old cord. When I told the service rep they never sent a return box for the previous one the smart @ss told me they didn't want it back, I could keep it, give it to a friend. I was like really, are you even listening to me, the cord BURNT up. Anyhow sent the whole macbook in for repair at this point, found heat sink and both fans needed replacement. I'm now noticing the same pre melting tension holes in my iphone cord that I charge via the laptop. This laptop has been the worst purchase I ever made and is my last macbook and probably my last apple purchase altogether. Give it to a friend, seriously???

    Broken after 1 year

    I bought my MacBook Pro last year and today my charger was on fire!!! Didn't expect that specially from Apple! And is quite expensive buying a new one. Not so reliable when it comes to accessories! Disappointed with Apple.

    Dangerous piece of cr*p

    After barely a year of owning my 2012 Macbook pro, my adapter started frying. Almost got electrocuted trying to unplug the d*mn*ed thing. And no, it is not because of my power outlets. Apple has a problem with loads of their cords, I had to replace my iPhone one every 2 months because the rubber would come apart and the threads would fray.

    3rd cord 5 years

    As stated... 3rd cord in 5 years. I am almost tempted to buy a second and keep one at work and one at home.
    Frayed ends, and the most recent one had to be retired when it started smoking...

    Outside of my Time Cap that only lasted 2.5 years... Macs have been really good to me. But the cord and the TC have killed me.

    Cable frayed after 1 year of use

    Cable frayed and the adapter no longer works after 13 months or so. Apple needs to do something to make the cables less prone to failure.

    If I could give it zero stars I would. Very poorly designed strain relief which is prone to fail (see the other reviews). When it does, if you are in warranty you are ok (but will have to wait about a week for an appointment with a "genius" to get a replacement). If you are out of warranty, they MAY offer you a £50 replacement.

    Seriously Apple, this is the lowest rated of your products. It is unreliable and £70 for what amounts to an 18V power supply is simply outrageous. I have been an Apple user for almost 20 years and only recently things like this are beginning to make me rethink. Just sad really.

    So Tired of This

    I keep having to buy charger after charger after charger. I'm very careful with them and leave the charger in one location because they are such delicate flowers and yet they still fray over time and quit working. Get it together, Apple.

    Just about to purchase my fourth Magsafe power supply, they've all failed at the connector end, even if the plastic sheath is not broken the braid inside has worn and gone open-circuit. Really Apple, check out all the bad reviews from loyal Apple customers ( we have the following: iBook, MacBook, MacBook Pro, iPad Air and two iPhones) and address this major flaw.

    terrible engineering or ruthless marketing?

    or both?

    From previous experience i have taken particular care of this thing and got stranded as everyone else.
    And then stabbed with a 80$ charge.

    Does Apple understand the impact of that kind of experience in a customer's next purchase decision?

    Seriously? Broken again?

    It seems Apple and Belkin are the only electronics companies that can't come up with cables that don't crack and short. Then apple charges $80 for the poorest quality cable on the market. All the traveling with my Windows laptops and I've never had a broken power cord. I don't get it. I felt like an idiot for buying the last $80 cord, now I'm frustrated enough to let the battery die and move on.

    Another vote for a detachable cable.

    I have two of these power supplies and both are frayed between the power block and the computer. It ought to be detachable/replaceable.

    Very disappointing Design

    Seriously? This design...Is the worst...You put $1 worth of wiring to something so heavy? I simply cannot fathom why the wiring is so thin.... Not to mention, adding an anchor to this thin wire...What were the designers thinking? if at all..... Starting to not want to deal with any more mac(apple) products...like...ever....again....complete waste of money.

    Time to DO SOMETHING Apple with this KNOWN defect.

    You pride yourself in making high qulity products and treating your customers with the respect they deserve yet you design one of the worst charging adapters ever made.

    100% of customers have this problem but you have done nothing to help solve the problem! How environmentally unfriendly it is to throw away these chargers every 8 months!! Get with the program apple!

    Really disappointed

    I'm beginning to feel that buying a Macbook Pro is the worst decision I've ever made! Have to buy an adapter for everything, and everything is so ridiculously over-priced. And on top of this, the items are simply not reliable!

    Ive had my Macbook Pro nearly 2 years and I'm now on my 3rd adapter. What is so very very poor though is that so many others have written exactly the same and NOTHING has been done about it. Poor.

    I'm going to buy Sony Vaio's from now on - so much better and cheaper than Apple products.

    I am so glad, I purchased AppleCare.
    Yet again even with applecare its still hard to get a replacement charger from apple.
    Its ridiculous you explain to them that you was charging your mac and the power adapter exposed nearly lifting off the ground.
    bare in mind there are no flails or damage to the cable.
    After about 3-4months of use.
    Apple try to make you pay for a new charger even with applecare.

    Poor quality adapter design and no remedy from Apple for far too long!

    My problem is the totally poor quality of the design of your MagSafe Power Adapters.
    This is the third one that I have had to buy in the past 3 years.
    The design flaw is that there is only minimum reinforcement on the cord which comes out of the power-square itself (the magnetic plug side). And they break with alarming regularity!
    I know that you've been aware of this design flaw for some time (as attested to by the huge number of complaints registered about your adapter products on your own Customer Review sites - where only 11% of customers are 'Satisfied' with this product, and many have commented that they only gave you one star simply because zero stars wasn't given as an option!

    For the life of me I can't figure out why a huge company such as Apple, which is known for its innovative approach to virtually everything else, has allowed this glaring bad design fault to persist for so long.
    The problem is further compounded by the fact that your replacement adapters cost $100 (Aust)!
    As many customers have already noted in their low-rated reviews, could it possibly be that replacement adapters are such a good little earner for your company that you have intentionally refused to improve the design of this most obvious design flaw? I would hope not, but that increasingly seems to be Apple's attitude.

    Given that I have now had to pay for three expensive new adapters in the space of just three years, I have decided that when I have to replace my Macbook later this year, I will probably have to choose a non-Apple product, which is a shame because aside from this adapter situation I'm very happy with the Macbook itself.
    Is there no way that you can remedy this situation for me?
    Either re-enforce the cord (which should be simple to do) or make your replacement adapters significantly cheaper? Otherwise you've lost this formally loyal Apple customer for good!

    I thought I was the only one.

    My MacBook Pro charger is just over a year old and it has died. I thought surely this must be a one off and came to the online store to buy a new one...how wrong I was. It seems the chargers are rubbish and fail on a regular basis. This is the first time I've ever seen a 1.5 out of 5 star! Come on Apple we're staunch supporters and this is not on.
