    Terrible Product

My 3rd adapter in 3 years has now broken at the base of the MagSafe cord, just like they all do. These adapters alone are enough to make me reconsider buying apple computers.

Average lifespan for me is 6 months

I have replaced this adapter several times now. It seems to last about 6 months and then stops working. Reading the other reviews shows I am not the only one having this problem. Come on Apple! You can do better!

    Horrible Design

After reading all the comments about the power supply and the wires fraying at the transformer (brick) it's no wonder why I am having problems with my power supply. My Macbook Pro is a late 2011 model. I too, am now having problems with my power supply not giving power. Only on mine, the insulation deteriorated and exposed the wires right where the wire comes from the transformer to the computer. And like many have said already, this lack of quality is quite a stain on a company that touts high standards. I will be visiting the Apple Store tomorrow and hopefully they will do the right thing by giving me a free replacement, otherwise I may I have to reconsider when considering Apple products in the future.

Worst power adaptor in the world

I had to buy two power adaptors in 4 months. The adaptor gets excessively hot and the wire coming off the adaptor to the computer is frayed. Apple should be able to find a fix for this problem.

    Cord Frays

The cord near the adapter that connects to the computer frays causing it to malfunction 12-18 months after purchase. There is no way to simply replace this cord like the cord that connects to the wall. So you must resort to buying another 80 dollar adapter. Fantastic! >_>

    What they said

    Dear Apple,
It is obvious isn't it? These expensive cords have a problem.
Please replace them with quality products that we've come to expect from Apple.

    Sincerely,
    Another Customer

    Looks smart but floored design

I'm now on my third of these. No matter how careful you coil this up to put it in a bag, after about 10/11 months of use the thin cable always breaks just as it goes into the square block. Poor design, love my 15" MBP, hate this issue that apple have not addressed.

    Poor show apple.

    Shame on Apple

Had to buy another cord...again. I cannot understand why Mac would continue to sell an item that has proven over and over to be rubbish. I feel trapped into buying these expensive shoddy products. Shame on Apple for exploiting the very consumers who support their company.
Even a trade-in rebate on the old cord would off-set the frustration from the continuing inconvenience and cost.

    Hate this charger

I bought a Macbook Pro in 2010 and I have had to replace the charging cords once a year. The cords badly fray because the cord is so thin on the one side. I will never buy another mac because these cords are 80 bucks a pop, Because they are made badly they should be free replacements. Right now I have electrical tape on it to get me through until my new cord gets here. I hate PC, But at least I've never had to replace the cords with those. Toshiba will be my next purchase.

    HORRIBLE

I've been absolutely in love with my MacBook until the power adapter caught on fire, YES I SAID CAUGHT ON FIRE!!! It never frayed, it just got really hot from time to time just as any power adapter does after a period of time. But this one actually started smoking and burning from the inside and bursted open, WOW! What if I wasn't in the room while it was charging and didn't catch the fire in time, SMH! Absolutely unbelievable!

Worst part of owning an Apple Laptop

I have 5 MacBooks and have now purchased 7 replacement power adapters. This is an example of why dependency on a single vendor is sometimes a bad idea. From the reviews it is obvious that this item is very poorly engineered, but Apple has done nothing to address it.

The failures have been all over the place. Wires have frayed, the LED blinks from orange to green indicating a problem, the power brick gets EXTREMELY hot and fails to charge the battery. Unfortunately, if I want to keep using my MacBooks, I need to keep replacing this piece of junk with a new piece of junk.

The Apple store needs to allow rating a product with zero stars.

    Near Perfection

This is my 1st review of any product and I have had a MacBook Pro for 4 years, and my adapter is as good as new, ad my dad has had his for 5(Cord still intact and he had huge hands..LOL). As I read through the comments on this adapter, I can't help but suspect that people are handling the cable/adapters a litter to roughly. Perhaps each of the people that have a complaint should not try a new way of storing their cable/adapter…such as not wrapping it up so tightly or at all.

Unreliable, Short-lived, fragile, and expensive to replace.

The component is marvelous when working; however, it is relatively short-lived, fragile, and expensive to replace.

I have had three of these components fail, each in less than a year. My good friend has also had two of these components fail, each in less than a year. Each of the five components failed in a similar fashion with the cord connecting the power brick to the computer frayed.

Increasingly frustrating and expensive issue since there are no alternative components on the market.

Goodwill between me and this company is rapidly evaporating.

)Written from my Windows computer...because I can't charge my Mac... :(

    Explanation of Rating

First, this adapter doesn't deserve any stars at ALL (why no negative integer options?). It's my fourth in 3.5 years, including the one that was included with the purchase of my MBP. I don't know if the whole MagSafe concept fails due to defective design, manufacturing on the cheap, or that the adapters and logic boards are incapable of playing nice with each other--I suspect all three might be responsible. For whatever reason, these things are beyond substandard. Despite not having done anything to fry (and I do mean that literally) my first MagSafe, I began treating their replacements with more consideration than some members of my family. I even slipped plastic tubing over the affected area as a preemptive strike--nothing works. I suspect Apple only sells replacement adapters as a two-part purchase because offering one piece or another would constitute acknowledgement that a problem exists. The $79 asking price is criminal extortion. HOWEVER, in all fairness, I took the adapter to a local Apple store, hoping against hope that I'd get the satisfaction I deserved and despite no longer being covered by AppleCare, that's exactly what happened. The "genius" was a pleasant young woman who went through the motions of asking me questions, half-heartedly suggesting it was my fault, then replaced the affected part of the adapter and sent me on my way. It's because Apple stepped up to the plate and graciously replaced the adapter free of charge that I'm assigning stars at all.

Mine also broke over just little over a year!

Same problem as the rest of the reviews.. The wires in the cord fray and it's done. This worst time to be throwing $80 out for another cord that will do just the same problem.

Please, take action Apple and redesign your cord!
