    No problems at all

    • Written by Sher S from GREENSBORO

I was so surprised to see all of the negative reviews. I've had mine for a year and it has been flawless. The only thing I would like is the ability to buy it without the extension cord (less expensive), so I can keep an extra one in my car for emergencies when away from home. I usually have my Mac on my desk and keep it plugged in most all the time. I don't know if the way I use it affects the good performance I've had or not but wanted to mention it.

    Great Charger!!

    • Written by Luke K from Cranleigh

I'm not sure what the other reviewers have been doing with their charger but mine has lasted 3 years so far. Much better that the terrible ones I've had with PC's over the years. I can recommend from the other reviews that if you regularly charge you Macbook in 2 locations that you get 2 chargers as no cables like being wrapped up in a bag!

    Never had a problem

    • Written by DON W from Bideford

I've been a buyer of Apple products for years, 3 MacBook pros, 4 iPads & 6 iPhones. All there cables have lasted the life and probably longer of the product. I've always been carful with any cable leaving some slack when winding, having duplicate cables and chargers for work and home, so there's no wrapping and rewinding. And as for overheating never had it, may be there product is using the wrong rated charger.
So I'll stand up for Apple & say "jolly good show" if you look after it, it'll look after you. :-)

    Great product

    • Written by RR F

This product has received a lot of bad reviews. Far too many for what it deserves. Personally I think that apple has done a fantastic job in the designing of this product: I love the magnetic charging that makes it effort less to insert in to the port and prevents you macbook from becoming dragged if the cable is tugged. The ability to change the cable size is another fantastic feature. However there are disadvantages including that the pricing is a little steep ( It should be reduced to £50). The white cable becomes dirty after a prolonged time. With all this being said my charger has endured 3 year of constant transportation and ravelling. At the end of this review I would conclude that the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and the product is worth buying.

    Good quality charger!

    • Written by Michael D from Uxbridge

I've absolutely no idea why this product has so many negative reviews - I've had my MacBook for more than two years now and haven't had to replace the charger at all, it is still in great condition (apart from the white colour being a bit darker now obviously).

It's a charger, it works, had mine 2 years with no issues

    • Written by Armen M from Tunbridge Wells

If you need a charger then buy this, simple as that. Mine has lasted two years, and so has my father's and colleague's. Not sure what people do to their chargers but mine is fine.

Ordering a second one now because I'm tired of lugging it around.

    Harsh handlers?

    • Written by Stuart R from twickenham

I feel these reviews are somewhat weighted towards people that have had negative experiences with these units. After all, the millions of people that have had no problems with their adapter are unlikely to leave a review here just to say "all is well".
I have been using various MacBook models with MagSafe adapters since they came out. I have *never* had an adapter fail on me in anyway whatsoever. I have not had a concern about overheating nor have I ever had any connectors fail or cable insulation wear and expose bare wire. I can only put this down to a couple of things:

    1) Do NOT remove the connector from the computer by pulling (even gently) on the cable itself. Remove it by gripping the metal or plastic connector and pulling up or down
    2) Do leave a bit of slack before you wrap the cable around the charger's built-in cable management prongs. Watch some youtube videos for tips on this. This will prevent the cable fraying where it comes out of the charger unit

My sister has gone through three adapters in perhaps 3-5 years. They have all failed with worn insulation, exposed cable and eventual shorting out. This can't be a coincidence. She swears that she doesn't abuse them, but I just don't buy it.
Again, I've never had an Apple cable in the last 10 years fail on me. My original USB -> Dock connector cable that came with my iPad 2 is only now just beginning to show signs of wear around the Dock connector. That's not bad for almost six years of regular use.
I expect a MagSafe adapter to last me the whole lifetime of any MacBook I buy. I haven't been proven wrong yet.

    A victim of selection bias?

    • Written by Daniel E from Reading

I guess the millions of people (like me) who never experience any problems with their power supply don't ever have a reason to come here and leave a good review for it! So the average rating here is probably very misleading.

I'm just here because I want to buy a spare one. The one that came with my MacBook is working fine after two years.

2 Years Of Use and Still Going!

    • Written by Brad J from Padthaway

I purchased a MBPr a couple of years ago and after browsing for possibly an extra charger I come across how many bad reviews this product has received. From my experience it's great, my device has been saved more then enough times to have paid for itself.. The ease in which the charger just rips out with very little force applied to it is pretty cool! The cable itself is still going strong! I've travelled a fair bit between Aus and Canada, but yet.. Still have not seen any signs of fatigue to the cord. Ever since I purchased it the cord has found itself sliding along wooden floating floors moving from side to side and room to room. Going from the reviews I think I must have hit the jackpot with mine.. Or... It's just a case of no one writes a review unless they have criticism to share

Great Product can't wait to see what you guys come up with next!

    FUNCTIONALLY BRILLIANT!!!

    • Written by Jeremy B from North Shore City

I am very surprised at the number of people who have described weak coupling of their MagSafe connections to their laptops. I assert the most likely explanation for their experiences would be either; they have received the 2-5% of product manufactured that are deficient (as happens in all products) and the magnets are weaker than intended. Or; another possibility is that the magnets have been weakened due to being impacted (a well known phenomenon of magnets). My explanation why there are so many bad vs good reviews is that for those of us who have well functioning examples there is less motivation and no incentive to get online and write a review. Those frustrated by their experience posses motive and motivation to express such.

My MagSafe 2 power adapter is awesome. It holds on very strong and has NEVER been unintentionally disconnected. My example performs perfectly and is an obvious improvement in design and function over the previous version. Its hold is stronger than that of my 2006 17" MBP, which occasionally did come out unnecessarily, but still within my expectations.

I assert this product is well resolved and that many of those with bad experiences have unfortunately received the 2-5% that are lemons. Get them exchanged under warranty and see how you go. Unless the cause of those problems is a weak receiving magnet in your laptop, which is another possibility…
