    0 STAR Garbage cord

    • Written by Peter R A from Gansevoort

This cord is the epitimy of what a quality cord should be. I think I have a better chance of getting better quality at the local "Five Below". It is ridiculous what Apple charges for their electronics and accessories to begin with and then you get a cord like this that doesn't last more than a year. My first one I had got warranted because it was ion the first year. But that meant a 2.5 hour round trip to the Apple store. Now less than a year later again a ripped cord. What a joke. I thought the old saying went "You got what you pay for"?? Because we sure pay for it at apple but we don't all get it.

These are horrible. They break first at the point where the cord joins to the magsafe plug, the plastic tearing away and then the wires breaking. If this reinforced then the plastic tears up at random places on the cord. I am ordering the 3rd charger for my computer; my daughter is on her third, and my grandson is on his second or third. It would not be so bad if apple would sell them at cost, acknowledging the failure rate. This money matters to me.

Apple's corporate arrogance is astounding (I say this as a long-term mac person, an apple user since the Apple 2c). Any other company would have addressed a long-standing problem years ago, but the fact that they don't shows a casual disregard for their customers. Any other company would have responded to negative reviews with apologies and a fix. These reviews drop into a black hole.

    Lousy, Cheap cords

    • Written by Michael H from Redmond

Always have been of fan of Apple designs and products. However, the cord engineer(s) should be FIRED. Whether its the MacBook Power Adapter or iPhone cord, the point where the cord enters the supply ALWAYS breaks down. Again, ALWAYS! Junk! There is no other way to describe the product. #Disappointed

This is the 2nd time my MagSafe2 charger has packed up on me . The cable has frayed in a couple of places and is showing the wire.I now have to pay another £79 for yet another cheaply made piece of rubbish to get my £1500 lap top working once again .Looking at all of the negative comments on here regarding the poor build quality of the MagSafe 2 power chargers i would have thought someone at Apple would be looking at this and thinking ...This is not very good for our product build image . But i guess we support Apple by having to buy chargers that most likely cost a couple of dollars to make in China. Wake Up Apple and give us some proper customer service. Disgusting ..

I have bought this exact charge 5 times, it usually breaks within the year, IF I'm lucky, even as I speak my computer is dying because my charger broke, forcing me to buy another. 0/10.

Just like all Apple power cords

    • Written by Gerald B from Spring Hill

Apple makes a great product and they are ALWAYS trying to one up themselves with their iGadgets, HOWEVER they need to spend some money to figure out a way to make a good power cord. It is bad enough the iphone cables only last 4-6 weeks, but so do the cords on these Macbook adapters. This will be my 3rd replacement in 3 years. I still have my Dell Laptop cable and laptop from 2006 and never had to replace the adapter. UGH!

This is why people are leaving Apple

    • Written by Christopher F from Nottingham

Apple takes it's customers for granted, ripping them off at every opportunity. My cable has increasingly got frayed and broken and now have to pay £80 for a new one.

Shame that I'm one of the several hundred customers who have had to replace this cord multiple times. Apple needs to build a better product or drastically lower the price on this...

    3rd time

    • Written by berkay O from barcelona

In 4 years. My MacBook Pro is from 2015 and I bought three chargers, they barely last a year, smell, burn and dangerous. So, unreliable that I charge my computer only after kids asleep and when I can watch it. There are other brands in Amazon that are apple/ MacBook compatible half the price. My wife bought them-- they also last a year, so not particularly better but cheaper at least. I am buying another one today because I cannot charge a non-apple product as an expense- company policy. What a waste of resources for everyone!

    Breaks right away

    • Written by Laura C from New York

The rubber encasing the wire started to weaken and fray within a year, even with light use. This is not my first and these always break. This is clearly an inferior, overpriced product. I wish Apple cared, but there's a clear trend in the reviews of their chargers...

Frayed wire, broken sheath and broken around strain relief. Dangerous after 2yrs of use. Looking for an oem version as £79 for this shoddy product is extortion. Old Apple charger over 10yrs old. Not what it used to be if this is anything to go by

    not built for long-term use

    • Written by Sam T from Cardiff

I have a MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch) from mid 2014, and I've used it for a lot. I use it to play games, to do all of my uni work on and to talk with friends. The laptop itself is fantastic, even though it's 5 years old it still feels "new", despite some nicks here and there, but the charger.. I can't say is anywhere near the quality that the laptop is.

I started having problems with it probably.. a year into owning it. The rubber around the wire started to disfigure, and I would have to use tape to stop it from exposing the bare wire itself. This was an okay fix for the time, but 5 years on, the charger is 90% electrical tape and 10% dodgy half-rotten rubber. It still charges, but it's near impossible to rely on as the amount of tape I've been forced to use on the wire has rendered it into an almost stiff and weighty rod.

I know apple has an awful track record with their charger cables, I've stopped buying phone cables from them because they break within a week or so of use. I also don't bend or misuse my chargers, as I want to make everything I buy last.

I've finally given in, and tomorrow I'm going to buy a new charger. I can't trust this one anymore, it's completely ruined and I blame the cheap and horrid rubber used to wrap the wires. They just rot off completely, it's awful. One touch and it disintegrates like pie crust.

Whilst it still "works", the charger is disgusting quality and I'm furious at how expensive it is to replace them.

Plastic breaks down and exposes wire

    • Written by Paige M from Athens

$79 is outrageous for such a delicate product. The plastic coating is very flimsy. Mine started breaking down around the part that plugs into my computer first, and it since has spread to multiple places in the cord, exposing the wires underneath.

    3rd charger

    • Written by Tyler S from Troy

On my 3rd charger. This is so disappointing, and a reason why I would switch from a Mac to a Windows laptop. Truly upsetting. My laptop charger from 2008 for my microsoft laptop still works and is not torn. Wish Apple could take note. Just real upset.

And yes, I am an owner of an iPhone as well as an iPad, and mac desktop. Just sad Apple.

    Poor design and quality

    • Written by Robert G from Spring Branch

Am now on my third MagSafe 2 Power Adapter for a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro. The first two both failed at the computer end. Was careful with the first one and very careful with the second one. Rarely take the charger with me and it sits on the left side of the computer so it goes straight in with no bend in the cable yet it failed again. A very poor design and quality. At least Apple could design one with a replaceable cable so you don't have to spend $80.00 for the whole charger.

I could not be more disappointed

    • Written by Jorge D from Long Beach

I am stunned, that Apple would have the arrogance to force this product on its customers. In 2013 I talked my then girlfriend, now my wife, into investing in an Apple computer for herself. Having been the proud owner of a 2003 (Black) Mac, as well as others, I could do nothing but rave about them. Unfortunately she has had an another entirely different. The latest: Her third power cord shredded today. I'm on my second, but I have always been an Apple apologist. But watching my wife spend her hard earned money, then get taken advantage of. Has been hard for me. I have offered to buy her a new computer, the brand entirely her choice. I'm certain, it will not be the Apple brand.
