    Waste of money!!!

    • Written by David D from Maple Grove

None of my apps work to stream content using this $50 cable. Movies anywhere um nope, google play um nope, Netflix um nope. What’s the point of buying a $50 cable if it can’t play any content that works on my iPad but not over a stupid cable. Will be returning this as soon as I get home. Apple charges a premium and won’t even warn you about the lack of support for other apps. Bush League in my opinion.

Avoid at all costs. Barely any movie from AppleTV will work with this even ones you've purchased. Doesn't work with ESPN or Netflix apps as well. 3 for 3 terrible.

I bought this, like others, to watch On a big screen from my iPad Pro. Tried my iPad Air:just the same.
It worked for two months then after a software update died a death. £49.00 for a very expensive lump of inert plastic.
What’s annoying is when working it was fantastic now I’m sceptical about buying another as it may be out of date as well.
I avoided the cheap copies for this very reason now feel Ripped off. I tried two other HMDI cables to check and it’s the adaptor that’s at fault.
I tried putting the power lead through to charge the iPad via adaptor but dead as well.
Why do Apple change software before checking on the product impact.

    Works...very, very poorly... at best.

    • Written by Derall W from GRAND JUNCTION

As with so many of the reviews I find that the Lightening Digital AV adapter, in my hands, on my iPad, work sporadically at best.
Under the best circumstances they require a LOT of fiddling, disconnecting, reconnecting, restarting the app. to watch anything.
Using them to watch streaming services has been a complete bust for me - I might get a picture, but no sound.
    Or sound and no picture.
    Or nothing.
If it does begin to work, usually during a commercial, it'll freeze once the programming restarts.
I wouldn't want to miss those commercials....

Connecting to an Apple TV via Airplay hasn't worked well for me either.

Whatever happened to "it just works?"

These would be a terrible deal at $5, but it is far beyond unacceptable that they work as poorly as they do AND cost $50.

    My second tv adapter

    • Written by Jujhar S from Gravesend

This is the second time I bought this. My first adapter was broken due to ageing of the material as I bought this over three years ago. Works really well with Tvs as long as it have a HDMI port. Don’t buy any other alternative ones. This is the best one accessory in a decade.

    No longer works with iPadOS

    • Written by Roxanne C from Edmonton

This adapter no longer works once you do the software update of IpadOS. You've literally created an update that renders your product useless. Classic Apple.

    HDMI adaptor

    • Written by grygoriy Z from Williams Lake

Yeas it’s my 3 adapter in 3 years so far . Quality is not the best considering the price 70 $ at staples wrip off ,using everyday for streaming cartoons for my kid , streaming movies . I think apple made this products very fragile to make money of the people . But I don’t give up try to make my adapter last long , here what I think first problem is bending the cord eventually it would brake . So I propose to stiffen the new cord before you put it to use with non conductive material like thin wood sticks to prevent twisting or bending the cord all the time , second problem is overheating , cord get over heated if been used for hours try to give it a brake after watching the show say 1- 1/2 cool it off safely not by ice but other means like cool fan , unplug charging part of the adapter soon as phone charged , place cords and adapter on something material that could absorb all the heat ,avoid loose contacts to prevent heat generation , I was thinking about put a little bit electrical grease like spark plug lube in side my iPhone port to keep contact steady in case if it got warn a little loose to improve conductivity but I haven’t try this so I can’t predict if it would help so it’s up to you . Thank you .

    Don’t buy this

    • Written by Venessa A from Edinburg

Do these things even have warranty of some sort?? I’ve already bought 4 of them because they don’t even last more than a few months without them just completely stop streaming video... yea, connect charger and it works fine but the video just stops working... and it’s the same thing with all of them. I always thought it was my kids messing with it but this last one I took care of it and it was the same freaking problem. I want my money back! (Obviously won’t happen) just frustrated I’ve spent too much on these worthless things.

    Waste of Money

    • Written by Tom H from Mchenry

Way overpriced (typical Apple) and doesn’t work. Much like what every review says it stopped working after about 2 or 3 uses. It will work here or there but I have to mess with it for a while and can’t touch or move my phone at all. That’s also if the cord doesn’t decide to just stop working randomly while plugged I to my phone. For how much they charge you expect more then a handful of uses. Wish I could rate it lower then 1 star
All I can say to Apple is fix it or

You should set up reoccurring purchases

    • Written by Kate P from Rosharon

Like everyone else...like clockwork, I have to buy a new one every six months. I get that Apple wants to sell their Apple TV, but there are some of us that don't have wifi at home. It would be amazing for someone to file a class action lawsuit against this product.

    Breaks every 6 months

    • Written by Andrew S from Placentia

This product breaks every 6 months, but I have no choice but to keep buying it. This will be my 3rd time purchasing this. Apple has a reputation of great quality, but not for this adapter, unfortunately.

Possible solution - works for now

    • Written by Bruce M from springfield

Having similar issues to what others have posted and through trial and a lot of error have figured out a sequence that works for me on the iPhone anyway. Here it is in order:

    1. Disconnect everything from the adapter and wait about 10 seconds
    2. Connect power cord to adapter
    3. Connect HDMI to adapter
    4. Turn on your TV/Display which should already have the other end of the HDMI cable attached
    4. On iPhone (haven’t tried with iPad) make sure you toggle off everything wireless - WiFi, bluetooth, personal hotspot, airdrop and cellular data
    5. Connect adapter to iPhone and wait until you see the adapter icon show up at the top right of the iPhone screen and then in a couple of seconds the iPhone screen will be mirrored on the TV
    6. Once the mirror starts, you should be able to start adding back the wireless options you toggled off previously, I typically restart cellular data then bluetooth followed by WiFi and because I use this at our lake house which has no WiFi I start my personal hot spot last which grays out the WiFi I just started....I know, I know it sounds redactively redundant but none of this makes sense anyway and it seems to work...for now
    7. Play your video that you downloaded or if you’re streaming, stream away
    8. Hopefully this works for you, if it does, then pay it forward by voting in the 2020 presidential elections, if it doesn’t, let others know so they don’t waste their time.

My adapater was working fine until I updated to 12.4. I contacted apple support and tried everything. It works fine on my iPad with 9.whatever software. They said it must be in the update and have to wait and see if they fix it.
