Adapter worked for @ 3 months then quit working. Prior to purchasing adapter I read all of the reviews-majority of them one star. I cared for the adapter with tender loving care and it still quit working. My bad for trusting the perceived high quality pedigree of Apple products.

    Works as Advertised (Out-of-Box Review)

    • Written by William M from Easton

I read many negative reviews of this product, and so purchased it with some reluctance. However, out of the box it seems to work exactly as advertised, with no teething issues. That said, I am using the adapter only to mirror my iPhone 8 onto a monitor for work, while my computer is being repaired off-site. I am not trying to stream content from Netflix and the like, which seems to be where many of the reviewers are running into problems.

In fact, I am writing this review using my iPhone, a Bluetooth keyboard and an HP 25” monitor that is connected to the iPhone using the adapter. It’s a pretty sweet setup, and gives me just about the same functionality as my Lenovo E470 laptop, with some compromises I can live with.

USB POWER CABLE NEEDED TO BE PLUGGED INTO an Adapter to get picture on TV

After trying all the reset suggestions etc, it came down to finally seeing a review that said to plug in a lightning power cable into the adapter...yes there is a spot for it. Wish the instructions had been c,ear it would have saved 45 minutes searching

    Works great

    • Written by Michael M from Lebanon

When I first tried to use the adapter, my TV saw no input source. Then I plugged in the power cable into the AV adapter, and presto! Evidently, the adapter needs more power than my iPad can furnish. I watched an hour long YouTube video. I hope it will play Amazon Prime movies.

The only adapter like this that works, but it wears out fast with heavy use

    • Written by P. C from Harrodsburg

I’ve tried a lot of off-brand adapters for Lightning to HDMI, and Apple’s works with the least problems. With heavy use, you will have to keep buying more as they continually wear out, probably due to the tiny cable bending a lot. Anyway, I’m here to buy yet another. Enjoy.

Idk what everyone else is talking about!?!?!?

    • Written by Alexander M from Hutto

I’ve had a iPhone 5, 7+ and now the XS Max and my digital av adaptor has always worked perfectly fine, including after every update. Sometimes the picture will stop working however not because of the cord, but the settings with the streaming engine or your settings on the phone of app accessibility. Also it does not need to be plugged from the lightning port to a power supply for it to work, only if you want your device to charge as it plays. I can’t comment on iPads but with iPhones, for my girlfriend and I, it has always worked to my expectations.

Sometimes you need to get HDMI from the iPad to a TV and this does exactly that.

Could have been so much better.

    • Written by Karl T from Torquay

Having used the VGA adaptor for ipad for several years without any major issues, this HDMI adaptor is bordering on pointless. It works sometimes, but presentation mode on keynote is unreliable, the adaptor gets stupidly hot when in use and something very strange happens with the power management on the ipad when it’s plugged in. By strange, I mean that the charge goes from 40% to 100% when it’s plugged in instantly.

A product that needs further work before release. Unfortunately I’m finding more and more that the features and innovations of apple aren’t awlways what they seem, and although they’re super great for the average user, they simply don’t test this stuff enough for power users, business or education.

    Apple lightning to AV adapter

This product is no good. Worked fine for a couple of weeks. On my third one now and doing the same thing. Second was bad right away. Didn’t have the time to take back. Was very gentle with second and third one. Connection will eventually go bad. Have to wiggle to make it work. Placed it on floor and just the vibration of walking makes it disconnect. I have read a bunch of reviews of people with same problem

I bought this a little over a month ago and it wouldn’t work on my iPhone 5 or 8. My husband had an iPad it wouldn’t work on there either. All we got was sound to the tv. And I paid $50 plus a protection plan. I want my money back. This is the worst

    It just works‼️ 😁

I purchased this cable a few months ago to watch movies that I had purchased from the iTunes Store.
I was concerned about the quality based on the sheer number of negative reviews, however I can report that this cable works perfectly.
I plan on purchasing ALLOT more movies from the iTunes Store real soon.

Digital AV adaptor works on iPhone7Plus

    • Written by Frederic B H from Montreal

I have been using the Lightning Digital AV adapter with my iPhone7Plus connected to an NEC N770 digital projector, and my adaptor works great. I am use it to teach classes on how to use their smartphone settings, and both the video and audio have worked fine.

When I first plugged it in, I had no signal. To see a video signal, I had to enter my password on my iPhone 7Plus. Once I did that, the home screen came up.

I use my iPhone to demo the Snapseed photo app and FilmicPro video app - works fine, with no interruptions.

To others treading this who are having issues, if you’re feeding a monitor or TV via HDMI cable, make sure you have the monitor setup for the right type of signal, that is 1080p HD format. Feeding into a 4k TV will produce a smaller image, unless you have the television set to auto fit, or auto scale (check your tv menu settings- under advanced).

For others having interruption of videos, or their stopping all together, you may have a wifi issue in your home. I upgraded my wifi to 5 gigbyte transmission, and changed the frequency, and that solved the issue of not being able to stream smoothly onto my home monitor.

I have been using my adapter for one month. I am using IOS 12.1 and have not upgraded to the latest. Having read the horror stories above, I will wait until after I have finished my lectures in April before upgrading!

Cheers! Frederic in Montreal

This AV adapter REQUIRES the use of the USB power cable

    • Written by Philip C C from Belmont

I purchased this digital AV adapter to project Keynote presentations on my iPhone SE to the HDMI port on a projector or TV. The dongle, which has a lightning plug to plug into the phone provides two receptacles: HDMI and lightning, plus the box includes a lightning to USB cable. My impression was that the lightning receptacle "could" be used to charge my phone. In reality, the lightning receptacle "must" be connected to a USB power source (power adapter, battery, or laptop USB port) for the AV adapter to work. Apparently, the lightning port of the phone does not provide sufficient power to drive the HDMI conversion. Needing that USB power source is really inconvenient, especially considering that the old 30-pin to VGA adapter did not require it.

    It’s the update

    • Written by Jon W from Redding

The lightning still works with my older iPads. My newer iPad worked fine until I did the newer update. Apple needs to fix it on the next update. I knew I shouldn’t have updated to 12. Apple sliding , sliding... apple should tell everyone so they don’t think it is their cable or tv or even the lightning switch. People are really mad because they used to use it at hotels or friend’s houses. Was it just bad programming?
